Stayed at Anantara with six girl mates to celebrate one of our birthdays...what a delight this hotel is :-) We were warmly welcomed on arrival by the very friendly Darwan presenting cool towels and refreshing butterfly juice (I had to ask "real butterflies"??...but was reassured no ;-) ) which was great after a long flight from London and taxi transfer from Bangkok.
The rooms are clean and spacious enough to accommodate 3 adults in our room and the resort is beautiful with magnificent gardens and swimming pool which were the best maintained I have ever seen. The beach is not great and is the reason I have awarded 4 stars but that is because a good/pretty beach is important to me... as mentioned; the pool is excellent if that is your thing.
Breakfast was good with a generous selection of sundries
BUT what really makes the Anantara a special hotel is its staff.....they were friendly, courteous and charming...as we moved around the hotel they greeted us with smiles and a genuine willingness to please. A real credit to the resort. Because of the staff the atmosphere is relaxed and pleasant; the little touches of making up the sunbeds for you and of bringing cold towels/ fruit/ canapes to the sunbeds during the day are super special.
Manager Daniel deserves a special mention for helping with arrangements for our special birthday celebration at a nearby beach club which he recommended and then endorsed by being there himself to celebrate his wedding anniversary!!! He seemed very hands-on and approachable with all the guests.
Would definitely recommend Anantara if you are going to Hua Hin . Enjoy!!

Room Tip: The lagoon rooms did look gorgeous and I would choose them next time

The hotel should focus on service delivery, from the moment i step out of my car, there is no valet parking. I was told to unload my luggage and park my car in the parking lot. Through out my stay, no valet parking was offered - far below a 5-star hotel service expectation. On arrival, instead of introducing the hotel to us, we were told of special promotions for spa and massage, again not what i expected when you are tired from all the travelling/driving. On one of the day at the pool, we received no service to even bring us to a sun bed, not to mention setting up towels or anything. This is plain 4 star experience.

We booked the Lagoon room with all the extra amenities and the experience started at the check-in. We entered the Thai style pavilion with a lot of traditional woodwork and antiques where we were greeted by a number of employees with the famous Thai smile and Sawadees. One of the receptionists approach us with a drink and cold towel for refreshment and arranged our check-in while we comfortably sat in the lounge area. Our suitcases where already taken to our room so we had nothing to worry about. The Lagoon room was overlooking a very quiet part of the resort with a beautiful scenery. We specifically requested a room on the second level as these have a large balcony with lounge seating. (We used it once though as the resort is where you want to be during the day) The rooms on the second level have high ceilings as well with give it a very roomy atmosphere. Room was very clean and nicely decorated, absolutely no disappointment. One of the perks of a Lagoon room is the option to have breakfast anywhere you want but we chose to have our breakfast at the à la carte Rim Nam outdoor restaurant. For dinner we generally went to town using the shuttle bus (also a complimentary amenity for Lagoon rooms). We did however had dinner at the Baan Thalia Italian restaurant at the resort and it was of very high quality and we enjoyed our dinner very much. We would definitely encourage you to have dinner at the resort restaurants but you can also have a great dining experience in Hua Hin. The Lagoon pool which is exclusive to Lagoon room and suite guests is a nice everlasting pool within a garden pond so it looks like you are actually swimming in a pond with waterlilies. Mind you the pool is very warm as the sun is not obstructed by anything so shining on the water until it goes down. At 4pm happy hour starts at the Lagoon Pool bar and you can get free cocktails and drinks with a variety of gourmet snacks. Every night there is a turndown service for your bed and cleaning is done every morning, so fresh towels and linen on a daily basis. O one final thing, do go for the beach BBQ, great food and even greater view. No another one, go to the Salam Siam bar in the evening for some great live music and also a happy hour with buy 1 cocktail and get one free.

We has the pleasure of spending 14 days at the Anantara and will come back next year.

We stayed at this resort hotel for six nights, it is clean, comfortable and the room rate is excellent value. The restaurants offer good quality food, but we thought that they were overpriced on Thai standards as are the bars, we also thought that the spa treatments were overpriced. The rooms are very nice indeed, with a large furnished veranda. All the staff are extremely helpfull and try their utmost to be of assistance. The hotel offers typical Thai hospitality and we would return if in the area.

We spent my Birthday there, 5 days of relaxing enjoyment incl. Cooking class. Try to stay at A Lagoon Room, even more privacy and a nice Happy Hour at the Bar in the later afternoon. But also the Beach Front is worth a try... I would always come back....

Room Tip: Lagoon Room - worth the up price...

The 187-room Anantara Resort Hua Hin is a distinctive Thai village-style property located on the sunrise coast of the Gulf of Thailand, around 220 kms south of Bangkok. Hidden amidst 14 acres of luxuriantly landscaped gardens and lagoon pools, the picturesque resort enjoys a beachfront location at the quiet end of Hua Hin's long sandy beach for only 5 kms. from Hua Hin town centre. A three-meters high terracotta wall cleverly cocoons the resort from the hustle and bustle of town. As you make your way along the landscaped driveway, a sense of calm descends. The sense of arrival is heightened as you admire a decorative wall adorned with a parade of elephants. A cool breeze drifting in from the beach floats through the open-air Lobby with the strains of a melodic Thai tune lingering. Polished timber floors and Thai-style salas (pavilions) heighten the ambience of an intimate tropical hideaway. ... more   less
