“Beautiful grounds, but party noise”
Reviewed 26 January 2011

During our 3-night-stay we endured all 3 nights parties and festivities just beneath our windows. The hotel rents a part of its beachfront garden to groups that have festivities there. We had a sea-front-room close to that area, that is more expansive than garden view, but the windows are not isolated. So even with windows closed it was very loud and a nuisance. Fortunately it stopped at 22h30, but three nights in a row is too much.
The strong point of the Anantara hotels (we have already been to the one in Chiang Rai) are their beautifully styled grounds and tastefully arranged interiors and exteriors with love for details, unmatched by any other hotel. The gardens and landscapes of that in Hua Hin are just superbe. To my taste much more beautiful than those of the Sofitel Hua Hin, where we went for a coffee although difficult to compare. While the Sofitel is much bigger and sterile, the Anantara is a place to dream.
I agree with some other travellers that the rooms start to look a bit used, but just in some minor details.
Another negative point is the location: Sofitel is better located in the center of Hua Hin so you do not need transportation, whereas in the Anantara you have to take the hotel shuttle for which you have to pay (what is a bit petty), and that is not very frequent.
However, the overall beauty of the place is so strong that it compensates for the rest. I would recommend this hotel for garden and nature lovers.

A very beautiful resort with lush landscaping. I was concern about the mosquitoes due to the lagoons and landscaping but surprising, we did not have any problems at all. The resort controls the mosquitoes population by using water and plants treatments. The check-in was smooth. We had a lagoon view room which was perfect for a family of 4. My 8 year-old shared a bed with us and my 10 year-old slept on the extra mattress. There are two pools at this resort, a main pool and an infinity pool. The lagoon infinity pool is for the Lagoon Room guests. If you stay in the Lagoon Room, you have can go to the Lagoon Bar for the happy hour. The happy hour is from 4pm - 5pm. They have extensive list of drinks and appetizers. Probably one of the best happy hour selections I've seen.

The resort is by the ocean with little tiny beach. During low tide at night, the beach is extended but it was mostly muddy. I think you would get better beach down farther toward downtown Hua Hin.

Overall we loved our stay at this beautiful resort. The staffs were friendly and helpful. It is a quiet place away from the crowd but not too far from the downtown. We would love to return to this resort again for a longer stay!

This is the first time we stayed in Hua Hin for Christmas. Since Christmas, room rate is significantly increased for many hotels. Luckily, I got a reasonable rate 2 months ago to stay in the entry level room - Deluxe Garden view room.
Anantara is nearly perfect for me. You can expect the 5-star hotel service in Anantara.
I don't have any comment for my room since I booked Garden view room, i.e. no special view. If you can afford, please book lagoon view room. Anyway, my room is very comfortable. Although no free internet in-room, you can get connected in lobby area & library by her free wifi provided.
Breakfast is the greatest. There are many choices. I especially love the home-made chocolate muffin (must try)!
Resort is not in Hua Hin centre. 10mins drive is needed to get into the town. Anantara offers shuttle bus in afternoon & evening time. Charge is THB50 / person / way. Taxi to town is THB150. So, if you have 3 people, take the taxi.
The swimming pool is great as well. Water is clean & clear. There is a pool side bar. You can have a drink or light meal there. Of course, foods are expected pricy. Therefore, we did not have any lunch or dinner there. Hua Hin town offers good foods in good value.
We did not try Anantara spa as well. Reason is very expensive. We always went to town centre to have Thai massage which is fantastic as well.
Anantara is by the beach. But the beach is not suitable for swimming. Water is not very clear and sand quality is not good.
Anyway, I recommend others to stay in Anantara. But for me, I may consider stay in other resorts next time, not because Anantara is bad, but just want to try something new.

I really enjoyed my holiday, its a beautiful Thai style resort, breakfast is fantastic, rooms are spacious & cozy. Staff is very kind & attentive however slow, the beach is very dirty(which is a big minus), full of rubbish & dead fish, Ihave to agree with other reviews, anything extra is charge at additional and high cost, e.g.Internet, laundry. Food & drinks in the restaurants & bar are also pricey, would be better if hotel could offer half-board/all-incl. option, moreover there isn't much choice for vegetarians. Ienjoyed staying at the resort and would definitely recommend it, was great experience, but as far as Im concerned I will not be a repeat guest there.

This Ressort is really something special. The Beach, the laguna, the pool....just fantastic. Try "breakfast by demand". They will set up a very special breakfast for you (we have had at the laguna) just for youself. You feel like queen and king !!!! The rooms are specious and nice. The Ressort itself is large and has plenty of space. We pretty much enjoyed a lot the happy hour at the pool bar :-) I can highly recommend this place to anybody who needs some relaxation... oh, by the way - the wellness area is lovely (you just have to find it!!) and the treatments are great (but do cost a bit...)

The Anantara Hua Hin is a very pleasant place with all the facilities you would expect of a 5 star resort hotel. We stayed at Anantara for two nights, accompanied by adult family members, and everyone enjoyed the experience. The pool and gardens are great, and there are plenty of options when it comes to restaurants and bar facilities. The food and service were excellent. However, the resort was let down a little by a the cleanliness of our rooms - there was grit on the floor indicating they had not been properly cleaned. The rooms themselves, although adequate, are quite small and I suspect would not suit a long stay. The other thing that bugged us was that some of the pathways between buildings seemed always to have muddy water on them despite there being only a quick shower of rain on one evening during our stay. Overall though the Anantara Hua Hin was a nice place to relax and I would recommend it to others.

Resort is beautiful, beach is small and dirty, rubbish washed ashore not collected quickly: Rooms are nice, connecting doors between rooms are outside on the balcony; no activities for kids, only three kajaks on the beach, no banana boat, no jetski, no slide on very beautifull pool.
Pool bar prices extremely expensive, internet charges 214 Baht per hour
More a resort for the older generation with no kids who enjoy a quiet resort.
Matrasses in rooms (520,521) are sagging

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The 187-room Anantara Resort Hua Hin is a distinctive Thai village-style property located on the sunrise coast of the Gulf of Thailand, around 220 kms south of Bangkok. Hidden amidst 14 acres of luxuriantly landscaped gardens and lagoon pools, the picturesque resort enjoys a beachfront location at the quiet end of Hua Hin's long sandy beach for only 5 kms. from Hua Hin town centre. A three-meters high terracotta wall cleverly cocoons the resort from the hustle and bustle of town. As you make your way along the landscaped driveway, a sense of calm descends. The sense of arrival is heightened as you admire a decorative wall adorned with a parade of elephants. A cool breeze drifting in from the beach floats through the open-air Lobby with the strains of a melodic Thai tune lingering. Polished timber floors and Thai-style salas (pavilions) heighten the ambience of an intimate tropical hideaway. ... more   less
