Hyatt Regency Hua Hin
Ranked #6 of 142 Hotels in Hua Hin
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 18 April 2009

This was our second stay at the Hyatt in Hua Hin and it was even better than the first. This time we got the exact two connecting rooms I was looking for: Ground floor Regency Club. I asked for ground floor because these rooms are much bigger than upper floors because the balcony area is actually enclosed and part of the room. With the heat in Thailand I much prefer the airconditioned sitting area to an outdoor balcony. I made sure to specifically request what I wanted in writing via email so there could be no mistakes (our previous stay, they got the room request wrong and couldn't correct it until the second day). With kids we learned that the Regency suites worked great allowing us to just snack on the great free happy hour spread and order room service off the kids menu for the kids right to the Regency club area. This avoided having to take the kids to an expensive and time consuming dinner at the restaurants. Although the last night we did enjoy a delicious barbecue buffet at You & Mee restaurant. The huge pool continues to be great for adults and kids and the grounds are beautifully maintained. My kids love the lazy river and the water slide. Love the huge bathrooms and spaciousness of the ground floor rooms and the staff are incredibly helpful and friendly. The extra Regency pool is nice too for a late afternoon quick swim after the kids naps although I thought the water was a little too warm for my taste. And the spa is fabulous and a must see. The only suggestion for improvement in my mind is to have a casual deli or sandwich shop open in the evenings for families who don't want an expensive meal and don't really want to eat room service in their rooms. Not such a big deal if you have sprung for a Regency Club room though because you can just eat out in their pavillion any time by ordering room service. That leads us to price. The hotel is very pricey and charges you for everything from DVD players (even in the Regency rooms) to internet use and the minibar is quite expensive. I have found these items to be free in many other Thailand luxury hotels and at the price of the Hyatt I would expect them to be free or at least more reasonable. So if you are willing to spend the money I would highly recommend this hotel, but if you are looking for a value place this would not be the place for you.

We stayed at the Regency Club and the attention to detail, staff attentiveness and pampering was first class and worth the extra upgrade. Our room was good but we would have prefered one of the forward facing rooms as we could be overlooked on the balcony by the adjacent rooms. The installaion of exterior blinds would help to make these balconies/rooms more private.
Also we felt that there was very little draw and wardrobe space especially if staying more than a few days,we have brought this to the managements attention.
That said the pool and club area are great and as we only had light occupancy we were spoilt with daily ice cream, fresh fruit and soft drinks all day as well as a wonderful Pool.
The location on the beach is great and we had wonderful walkes along pink sands with great views. The King and Queen were in residence along the coast so we experienced the sight of the Thai Navy standing guard off the coast, a great sight at night.
Food and drinks in the hotel are high as you would expect but at THBT 150 a taxi/Tuk Tuk ride into the harbour area will give you access to many restuarants with high food and service quality as well as the local night life and shoppping as well as the night markets.
We are planning to come back again in 2010 as a break on the way to Australia to see family and will transfer direct to Hua Hin by private Limo instead of going into Bankok first.
If you want luxury and relaxaion look at the Hyatt Regency Hua Hin.
Thank you to all of their staff and management they are first class.

Stayed here as part of a tour of Thailand, expecting this particular hotel to be the highlight of the holiday. In summary the hotel is beautifully designed, set in luscious grounds, however, sadly it is let down by service. (Where have you seen that before?)

First for the positives - The hotel has many bars and restaurants to choose from. In addition it has one of the largest pools I've seen designed like a river running throughout the complex.

For the downside - When we checked in, we had been travelling for approx 5 hours and were tired and in need of our room. The reception set up is of 4 open plan desks that are manned by individual reception staff. When we arrived I stood in the middle trying to catch someone’s eye, however, of the 2 staff members that were not dealing with customers, they did their best to avoid my gaze. Eventually after waiting for around 5 minutes I approached one and asked to be served.

Secondly as we were in a suite we had access to the Regency Club and pool. On the day we arrived it took around 10 minutes for my kids (aged 9 and 3) to get their swimming gear on and head for the pool. Unfortunately the lady who manned the club felt it necessary to tell us that it was in fact a private pool (of which we had access) and to keep the noise down. Note that any noise came from a 3 year old, who in our opinion was not making any noise, or at least no more than a normal 3 year old.
Interestingly the following day the noise level increased dramatically as more kids started to use the pool. It would be interesting to know if they were reminded of the requirement to keep quiet as we were?

Thirdly - Don't expect anything to happen fast. Ie food, drinks etc. Everything seemed to take a while before we received what ever we had ordered.

What was the effect of this? Firstly it made us feel uncomfortable when using the Regency club. Secondly we decided to check out early and head to another hotel.

Would I go back here? I guess you know the answer. Would I recommend it? I'll leave that for you to guess.

Had a lovely stay for 2 nights for my birthday, as a break from backpacking! Having stayed with business at the Hyatt many times with work before I went travelling, it was such a treat! The welcome was lovely, and the room was fabulous. Our basic room had a balocny with fan and the luxuries you'd expect from a 5 star hotel. The pools were excellent, and the food was delicious (particularly the special dinner we had at MacFarlane House). The cool lemongrass towels supplied with drinks were a lovely touch, and the 2 for 1 cocktail offer on every evening was a bonus too! They even delivered a delicious birthday cake to the room on my birthday. The location right on the beach with pool showers was lovely. and the grounds were very well maintained. We also joined in the Tai Chi one morning which was lovely. The Barai (the spa), is a huge, beautiful and very impressive complex - we got a tour around. Unfortunately the phenomenally expensive prices ensure it's kept exclusive!
So overall we thouroughly enjoyed our stay, but there were a few negative experiences with the service.
My boyfriend ordered a lovely special breakfast on the morning of my birthday and half an hour after its expected arrival, he opened the door to see that they had hung the newspapers over the menu card and hence not taken the order. He phoned to complain but got no apology although they did come and collect the card and prepare our breakfast with free OJ to compensate. But that morning he proposed!! But without the romantic breakfast he'd ordered!! He tried to explain to staff later that he had proposed and that it was not acceptable that the breakfast didn't arrive, but they offered nothing - no drink to celebrate or anything. The beauty parlour was also closed with no explanation when we wanted to use it, and there was confusion around the set menu at one of the restaurants.
We were also surprised that the hotel shuttle bus to Hua Hin centre cost 50Bt per person - surely they could put that on as complimentary?
But like I say, overall it was a wonderful stay, and I would highly recommend the hotel.

Spent 4 nights here. Got a lovely room (2214) overlooking the river pool. The room was a bit cookie cutter but had everything including an expensive web connection ($0.30/min). The gardens are simply gorgious and fantastically kept. The cost of food and drinks is expensive compared with the rest of Thailand but you cease to care as you are pampered within an inch of your life.

The Thai restaurant is great and the lunch bar (You and Mee) very good. The Italian restaurant Figs was open only for breakfast which is very overpriced and somewhat depressing. I'd skip it and have an early lunch.

The staff are sensational.

Should you pay the premium for the Regency Club option? I don't think so unless you get a deal or really want the free wine or beer at the evening happy hour. Would I return - Yes in a heart beat.

The Hyatt is truly a wonderful Hotel. Each of us yearn to go back there. The accomodation rooms are lovely, the grounds immaculate, the staff helpful and friendly and the lagoon pool just divine.
LOcated a short drive away from town,it is well placed between the golden buddha and a short tuk tuk drive into town for dinner.
The Baria spa is truly a once in a lifetime experience. The wonderful building adds to the fantastic array of treatments.
Dont research any more - just go!

We stayed with our 2 boys for 10 days in this beautiful place. The boys were staying in the Regency Club and we had booked The Barai, it was worth to spent the extra money, very nice Garden Pool Suite, wit seperate bathrooms, superb bath and steam / shower room.

Guess we had close to 130 QM in total. lovely decorated, but moreover with tons of extra's. We enjoyed the daily massages in the Barai Spa which architecture was already a daily treat for the senses, the cocktails in the McFarland House as well as the seperate beach setting rounded it all off .

As we extended our stay with one day the boys were treated with a one day/night in the Barai balcony suite, they loved it.

Service was outstanding and our personal butler June was a juwel, best service ever. Everything was taken care of, from the beginning to the very end.

The restaurants were excellent , hotel is well managed by Mikael Svenson and his wife Jaime and in a very good condition, grounds well taken care of. All staff very polite and service oriented.

We definitely will come back soon, just the 2 of us for a romantic getaway as the Barai just invites.
