We spent three nights at this hotel in August 2012. The rooms have the potential to be amazing as they are huge but they are in need of a refresh - paint is peeling and the silicone in the bathroom/shower has that tell-tale blackness to it. It's a real shame as the staff were just lovely: typical Thai as they really appreciated your custom and wanted to make your stay as good as possible.

We stayed here at the end of our tour and just wanted to relax, which we did very well by the pool. Sadly the tide was in and the warning signs about jellyfish put us off the sea. The pool staff were fab and anticipated our every move and really didn't mind when we swapped damp pool towels for fresh ones - that part was luxury.

We also found the local a little out of the main stretch - we walked out one evening but it was pretty dead. Ok, so this was mid August and rainy season, but no bars open - not even the chance of a foot massage!!

The manager, as others have said, is great, and he told us they are planning a refurb, starting with the pool area to enlarge it. If they do that and freshen up the rooms I'd return as the people made it super. Otherwise, there are better places to go and this certainly isn't luxury.

We stayed recently making a last minute booking for a one night stay. The hotel is quite small and well positioned in Khao Takiab just south of the center of Hua Hin. One immediate disappointment was that the hotel only had 4 or 5 parking spaces at the front, meaning we had to park over the road and walk back to the hotel. The room itself was very large although a few of the fittings were looking a bit dated. The location on the beach is really nice however when the tide is in there is no beach to speak of. When the tide is out however, the beach stretches forever. Two other points of note for us were that there was no English news channel on the tv and the breakfast was western style buffet with no Asian / local food. A Thai hotel that does not offer Khao Tom in the morning needs to think again! All in all in was very enjoyable stay and was nice enough. I don't think it lives up to it's luxury boutique billing but is perfectly good for a short stay wil reasonable facilities.

What makes The Rock Hua Hin worth checkin out is it's excellent laid back spot on the beach, with that scenic hill on one side and the rest of the coastal stretch on the other. It's also just a motorcycle drive away from the traffic of the busy town center, night markets and seafood restaurants. I had a pleasant stay at the hotel but I had the feeling that we were left on our own. We ordered something to eat, and it took them until the next day to fetch the plates we've used. The room we checked into was clean but a few parts of it needed either a replacement or a new shine. The bathtub looked old and its cracked surface definitely needed fixing and its pipes are calling for a plumber. My wife didn't like it that much. I don't like it that the beach is too close to the pool area on high tide. I saw a sign somewhere warning everyone to be careful of jellyfish, so it's not exactly good for swimming as well. They needed more staff to attend to the customers, and a regular guy on the bar. Over all, the resort felt empty and customers left alone.

The sleepy town of Hua Hin, Thailand, where local life merges with tourism at a slow and very relaxed pace.

The Rock, a small boutique hotel nestles on the beach at Hua Hin.
The rooms are very spacious and some offer a slim view of the sea from the balcony.
Although the décor was once modern it is now tired and in need of some t.l.c.
The staff are very friendly and probably a little too relaxed to be efficient.
The star of the show is the Front Office Manager, who is in a league of his own among the staff.

An efficient GM and a lick of paint could make this tired but beautiful hotel the star attraction of Hua Hin.

Excellent beach front location, fantastic people specially the front office manager "Dada" as he called himself!!! Pool nice and cosy, beach not great, rooms superb and spacious for our family of 3. Local transport is conveniently available, the breakfast is great and the staff just amazing!! Definitely recommended! Will certainly stay there again when we visit Hua Hin next time!!
