“We loved The Rock”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 February 2014

We stayed at The Rock Hua Hin for 5 days in February 2014, and despite a couple of issues, I can only wholeheartedly recommend the hotel – it is excellent.

THE GOOD PARTS

The hotel is small, with just around 20-30 rooms. We’re a small family of three, and the staff were kind enough to upgrade us upon arrival to a larger room, with two queen-sized beds. The room was huge, with a nice balcony (and a view of the ocean). The bathroom was also very large, and they used glass-panels throughout. This may not be in everybody’s taste as it does present some privacy-issues, even with the curtains rolled down.

Beds were the usual Thai “almost-too-firm”, but comfortable enough.

The Rock has direct access to the beach, which is at the (very) quiet end of Hua Hin. Nothing much going on here, just people walking/jogging passing by. Very few nearby restaurants and no massage on the beach. The sand is nice, and water very shallow. As everywhere else in Hua Hin, you have to venture out more than 50 meters before the water reaches your waist. Great for children.

The pool is amazing. Large and clean, infinity-style overlooking the beach. Lounge chairs were comfortable, pillows and towels were clean and readily available.

Breakfast was included in our stay, and we enjoyed it every morning. Nothing spectacular, just exactly what you need.

THE BAD PARTS

When we arrived, mid-afternoon, we ordered sandwiches and a traditional Thai dish from the restaurant. A full 45 minutes later the food finally arrived, and the sandwiches were terrible. Cold and made with stale/dry bread, and ridiculously small portion size, given the 200THB++ price tag. The Thai food was ok. We’ve seen this many times before in Asia: Stick with the local food, making good Western simple dishes can be harder than you’d think.

The room has a very nice two-person bathtub. However, the low water pressure means it takes upwards of an hour to fill AND the water never gets warm enough!

THE EXCEPTIONALLY AWESOME PARTS

The staff at The Rock Hua Hin deserves special mention. Friendly and helpful, very attentive and professional. They helped us rent a car (when none were available), entertained our daughter with magic tricks during breakfast, drove us to town in the hotel bus, and generally just made us feel very much at home. We’ve stayed at 20+ hotels in Thailand by now, and the service we got at The Rock Hua Hin was by far the best. Thank you.

Highly recommend.

Room Tip: 1st and 2nd floor rooms have views of the ocean.

My husband and I have just returned from The Rock, having stayed there for our last 4 nights in Thailand. It was simply the most romantic end to our holiday. The rooms are huge, modern and beautifully designed with large, comfy beds, traditional dark wood furniture, large flatscreen TV, DVD player, huge sofa, dressing gowns, safe, mini bar, huge bathroom with bath, separate shower cubicle, his and hers wash basins etc.

The public areas of the hotel are stunning with a wonderful infinity pool, a jacuzzi pool, well-padded sun loungers, upper sun deck and soft cream furnishings. There is direct beach access and a pool bar with happy hour cocktails between 8-10pm.

The staff at the Rock offer outstanding service and one member of staff in particular, Manpree, did his utmost to make our stay enjoyable from welcoming us on the first day to making cappuccino for me at breakfast and getting croissants in for me. His manners are impeccable and you get the impression that he goes the extra mile for all visitors. He is a real asset to the company.

Thank you to everyone for giving us such a wonderful end to our holiday

Room Tip: Rooms on the ground floor have private jacuzzi pools but these are shaded and privacy hedges have no...

we stayed as part of an exodus tour, this isnt the kind of area we would have chosen if we had been booking ourselves, but when we arrived we were very impressed by the rooms. lots of glass and design work has been applied to the rooms...the special thing about the place is the staff, despite advertising vegetarian options on the restaurant menu we were unable to find anything to eat on the menu, we mentioned this to reception on the way out to find another restaurant.......the reception staff were upset and one of the reception staff greeted a fellow vegetarian like an old friend...he offered to cook us a special meal himself..he flew into the kitchen and proudly produced a great veggie meal for us, how the cook took that we dont know.....!!!
the rest of the staff were alays smiling and genuinly seemed to be pleased to see us...
stay here , walk down the road past the cafes and hire a scooter and drive down the coast road past the pineaple farms....fantastic..
the tide was in during the days we stayed..no beach at all but they have a bar near the pool..!!

Room Tip: ground floor rooms have a personal small pool in the garden.f1,g1etc some of the top rooms have be...

This is a very nice and new resort on the beachfront of Khao Takiab area.

We come to Hua Hin many times but it is the first time we stayed at The rock and Khao Takiab area. It has become our favourite part of Hua Hin because it is so quiet and peaceful with the sea. We were so impressed with the resort and wished our schedule had allowed for more than two nights.

At first we thought it is a new resort but we heard from one of the friendly Thai staff at the pool bar that the resort just had a major renovation and hence everything is brand-new.

We really enjoyed the sunbath on the wooden deck by the swimming pool. This Resort have the most breathtaking swimming pool which is facing the beach and all luxurious white furniture are just so comfy. We could stay at the pool area for the whole day indeed. In the afternoon, we ordered some cocktails and hamburgers. Those were very delicious. We can feel the quality of the meat. The price is very reasonable for us.

We booked through the hotel website for Zen Jacuzzi room. Our room was very spacious and luxurious with comfortable big bed, lovely teak floors, and clean. The bathroom is huge. We also have jacuzzi pool and our mini private garden at the back of our room. We don’t see much real floor wood in hotels these days but here there is.

Breakfast offers plenty of variety - both hot and cold gastronomy. We didn’t had much as we don’t normally have breakfast though.

We’ll definitely come back again and spend more days. We highly recommend this as relaxing paradise.

This we our 3rd time staying at 'The Rock Hotel' The staff very friendly, the rooms clean and large.
The hotel has been renovated still keeping its charm but with a more modern feel. Hotel is on the beach. the first time we stayed was in July/August and we were able to walk onto the beach and spent the whole day playing in the sand with the staff popping down regularly with water for our son. Unfortunatly the last 2 times we have stayed it was in December with the tide in we were unable to enter the beach threw the hotel but instead we had to make a long walk to the beach along the busy road. The steps to the beach were quite slippery at night!

Room Tip: Some rooms have a private pool, these look great but are very small. Hotel has a nice pool with grea...

Dear VickyFreek,

Thank you once again for staying at The Rock Hua Hin Boutique Beach Resort during your visit to Khao Takiab, Hua Hin and for sharing your feedback with us. Also thank you for sharing your valuable comment to other readers and compliments to our boutique resort.

The Rock take our guests feedback extremely serious and will be taking action on your observations.

Please be reassured that the stairs to the beach is now tiled with high quality Kenzai Tiles which will eliminate any slippery. However, like other stairs elsewhere, cautions are needed and should not run up/down with wet feet.

It was the high tide when you visited but we do have more beach this December than last year. Just to share with you that we are fortunate that on the new year’s eve, we have really good long beach throughout the New Year. After our gala dinner on the night, our guests could enjoy the beach and fully celebrate the new year moment on the beach.

Thank you again for your comment and we hope that we can welcome you back in the near future. We promise that we will get better and better each year.

This is my second time at the rick hua hin and this place has never ever let me down!

The renovation and all new decorations are totally amazing. The room is still large, luxury and colourful. I love how they put the tiny cutie swing with the lovely pillows in the room.

The pool nearby the beach is still my favourite. And the idea of having the new comfy sofa zone next to the pool is so gorgeous and relaxing that I found myself spending most of my time there lying down, reading books and getting a nice suntan!

So I would recommend the rock hua hin to anyone who longs for the best holiday experience!

Pros:
-Room is quite big and beautifully decorated, although a bit worn out. Still felt really cozy.
-Excellent bed, pillows and silky sheets. Slept wonderfully.
-Huge bathtub, nice roomy bathroom
-Staff is nice, smiling and helpful
-food from room service is reasonably priced and quite good

Cons:
-the hotel in general is worn out; narrow corridors; shallow pool all around the building is full of rotting foam and looks pretty disgusting (don't get a ground floor room, that's for sure); visible rusty and noisy air conditioning units all around
-very small pool that is more like a big jacuzzi

We had a discounted room at 3000 a night which is still too high. The official price at 4500+ is ridiculous for what's on offer here (by Thailand standards). For that price you can get a room at the Wora Bora hotel next door which is three times as nice.

Room Tip: Avoid the ground floor as you'll have a view on the shallow "pool" which is yellow and...

Dear European_Ben,

Thank you for your comment when you stayed with us in early 2013.

We are very pleased to inform you that we have completed the big renovation finished by the end of 2013 with the investment amount for the renovation of almost 40 million baht. Everything is brandnew. The staff crews were professionally retrained and we also have new hired staff. We can promise you that this is the best team we have got. They are fantastic staff and very attentive. You would be able to see from the recent reviews in 2014.
