Private Tour: Thai Burma Death Railway Bridge on...
Reviewed 10 June 2014

Some trips are not for having fun but rather about understanding, respecting and saluting the dedication of soldiers of the war. For those who fought, for those who died and for all of them with their undying spirit.

This is a small train which takes you on a 4 km Journey and gets your back on the same route. The train crossed the River Kwai Bridge. This journey makes you realize how difficult it must be for soldiers to carry food, ammunition 70 years ago with limited facilities and hard hours of work. This journey moves you and makes you realize how some people did everything for their country by risking everything.

This is a once in a lifetime experience. I would choose this over any other tour or activity in Thailand.

Caught the train back to Kanchanaburi from Nam Tok after spending 2 nights on a River Raft Hotel near Soi Yok. What a great experience for a single traveller. The cabins were old and ricketty and plenty of viewing from the windows and doorways. As the train got more onto the edge of the mountain you can see the difficulty there must have been for the old diggers and locals. The drop to the river below was incredible. Certainly glad that the train slowed to a crawl along this section...swear I could hear the timbers cracking as each carriage crossed. Finally to the bridge over the Kwai River and onto the station to nearly finish my journey.....just one more mark of respect to do...off to the War Cemetery.

Ortganised by Viator. Small group in van. Early am departure from Bangkok, lunch provided. Good pace, excellent day out of the city. Historic areas of the railway including hospital in a cave. Definitely well worth the time to go and see. MUltiple days would allow a better stay.

this was a wonderful opportunity to see the true Thai contryside from a local train, the scenery was excellent and the atmosphere in the train great. Be warned this is a local train and is not airconditioned but the open windows made it quite comfortable. The lunch at Wang-Po was first class. But standing on the railway station in the heat really brought home the incredible feat of building that railroad, seventy years ago, with mimimal food no machinery.
