Tamarind Guesthouse
Ranked #42 of 108 Kanchanaburi B&B and Inns

If your making your money matter, then this is somewhere to contemplate,we arrived in kanchanaburi late and found this guest house first,it's cheap the rooms are dated and the shower was a bit cold at times ( it is thailand!) on the other hand it was a nice walk to the guest house,it was clean,a fab view from our room and a really good cafe at end of drive with cookery lessons available, so the good far outweighed the not so good.

Room Tip: Try to get one that overlooks river

We had arrived in Kanchanaburi without a booking, we were pointed in the direction of Tamarind by another couple who were staying there. We booked 2 nights into a fan room at 350B a night, it was a very simple room with private bathroom. It's down a little side street so away from the noisy Main Street. When we booked in we weren't really given any information about the communal area or when to check out, but the staff we quite friendly. The bed was quite hard but could be expected at that price. There are fly nets over the windows but the gaps are big enough for mozzies, being right next to the river there were plenty so we got eaten during the night. It could also do with a bit more cleaning, under the bed there was some rubbish and quite a lot of dust.
Overall a quite nice place at a very reasonable rate, with a few tweeks has a lot more potential.

My husband and I are living in Bangkok and booked a last minute weekend getaway to kanchanaburi. We booked a room at Tamarind several days before our arrival for 350 baht per night. Booking a place for that price, you never really know what to expect but the reviews seemed good so we went ahead and booked. When we arrived, not only was this place in the perfect location (right in the middle of town where all the nightlife takes place, a 5 minute walk to the cemetery and war museum, and about a mile from the bridge on the river Kwai), it was even a bit set back from the bustling street, which ensured we'd have a quiet night's sleep.

This guesthouse overlooks the river, is very cute and peaceful, has very clean rooms, and overall was such a pleasant surprise.

My only complaint is that there's only wifi in the main area, but our room was so close that we were able to get it there too - so, problem solved.

This is definitely one of the best guesthouses we've stayed in throughout our very extensive travels. Highly recommended!

When i arrived, the booked room from agoda on the roof was overbooked. So they gave me a room with aircon and hot shower, that was a nice treat. The room was clean but i wouldn't book that room for that value. The bed is hard like in a meditation center and breakfast isn't included for this price. Even in Bangkok you get breakfast for this price.

The staff (the ladys) are really frendly, in the opposite the man isn't really interested about the tourist. I don't know why.

My advice to you, if you join this guesthouse, book the fan room with shared bathroom, thats enough

Stayed just one night and took the 700 Baht room (Number 15). Nice clean room with many channels cable TV, air, hot shower, and your own private balcony overlooking the river which was very nice to chill and drink/read etc..
The people there make you feel welcome and were kind enough to allow me to park my car next to the reception (I say kind as there's just enough space to park one car down there without blocking the other guests access).
The fan rooms also look good at 350 Baht (no TV) but are right opposite reception (all the ratf rooms were taken so not sure what they are like).
Little in the way of facilities on site but a 1 min walk to road and there's bars and restaurnats on your doorstep and the Jolly Frog restaurant next door for good cheap Thai and foreign food.

Room Tip: Room 15 is a one off and the dearest there ..but worth it.

Stayed here over a holiday weekend (Buddha day and valentines day). Was one of the only places with rooms. Got one for 500 baht on the river with A/C which was good value.

Had a light blow and staff didn't seem too keen to replace, unfortunately it seems it was the fitting as well as the bulb,so without light for the rest of the evening. No biggie though, I've run a guest house so know what its like with Thai electrical systems.

Signs all around to respect neighbours and not be loud, which is nice, except the neighbours insist on playing Thai Karaoke all day which well, kind of destroys the beauty of the river, having to listen to poorly eqed sound systems and the wails of tone deaf Thai women.
To top it all off the wonderful couple next door got into a massive fight and we had to listen to them argue over whether or not he was going to leave her for a hooker up on the main street. Lovely stuff.

They don't have any food, or drinks available either, but there are plenty of places just down the road. Bikes are available to hire at 50 Baht, motorbikes not available, even though they advertising them. Bikes are all you need if you are on a day or two trip.

So yeah, nice place, just a pity about the guests and neighbours. I'd still stay here again, as that sort of stuff is hit and miss and can't be controlled by the owners.

Room Tip: Go for the river side rooms/floating rooms - these are great as long as there are no drunks in the r...
