The island setting for this resort is fantastic... peaceful, quiet, and beautiful. The views of the river are serene and rejuvenating. Getting to the island is easy (and part of the fun). Even though the resort management informs that the boat runs on the hour, they will also cheerfully make flexible arrangements if your schedule is a bit different.

The hotel and resort are quite nice, although definitely in need of a facelift. One has the sense this was a fabulous place some years back. There are all kinds of special artistic quirks and flairs scattered about the island. The rooms we stayed in were clean enough and the beds were quite comfortable, but as others have noted, many of the features of the rooms are old and in need of repair or replacement. The airconditioner in our room worked perfectly though, which was nice. Bathroom shower and water heater and amenities somewhat basic, but good enough. Only one outlet for charging phones, cameras and computers, but we managed.

The room rate included breakfast, which meant a choice of four set menus. Basic options... nothing to be too excited about. The coffee was very good though. And very pleasant spot near the river for breakfast. The first serving of breakfast is only at 8:00 a.m. though, so if you want an early start to go somewhere you may want to skip breakfast.

The "resort" features some peaceful sitting spots near the river, a massage kiosk, and a small swimming pool, among others. The pool is not particularly attractive, so don't expect much. There are basic tourism maps and information in the lobby -- faded and worn -- and the staff are helpful in making tour arrangements.

All-in-all, the place is pleasant enough, but could be so much more with an injection of new investment and renovation. Given the reasonable price of rooms and the peaceful environment, it's a good option for a place to stay for a night, but I wouldn't make it the base for an extended stay.

The resort offers large, comfortable rooms with modern conveniences. A balcony with spectacular views overlooks the river. The staff is friendly and attentive, and the food is WONDERFUL. This place is a gem and I would highly recommend it.

This hotel couldn't be in more idyllic location, it is on its own island, whilst this makes its a beautiful place to stay it does come with a couple logistical issues. There is a free boat service until 22:00 and then till 02:00 they charge 400B, this means that on your night out you have to keep and eye on the time. This is not really close to any of the main attractions so be prepared to get a taxi or like I did spend an hour walking around. However there is a restaurant on the island and at the dock on the riverbank.
The hotel also has partnerships with a tour company with ran an excellent and very reasonable tour, absolutely no organisation on my part for a fantastic day out.
I stayed in a ralf house which was was anchored to the island, this can be disconcerting to some as you feel a slight movement when a boat passes but personally I loved it! There was also houses which where attached to the island, all houses have a river view and a balcony to sit on and watch the world go by.
Breakfast was a bit hit and miss, one day it would be a buffet and then the next a menu order. Te staff were very friendly and seemed to be very family orientated.
My overwhelming sense was that this was an amazing opportunity for a very special resort but it was in need of some renovation, my ralf house was plywood and timber construction which was in need of repair and the wood was stained. However considering the location and the sense of individuality I could not believe the price, it was an absolute bargain for what you get. If you are planning on staying in Kanchanaburi then do put this at the top of your budget yet luxurious list

I went to stay in Kasem island last december and still talk to everyone about it. The lady in charge was very nice and informative about planning our trip around. No problems crossing the lake as the boat service was very good too. Food was ok if not great but the ambience was fantastic.Had a great stay.

I thoroughly recommend this delightful small island resort to which you sail by small boat! The staff are exceptionally polite and quietly gracious; providing a true home from home after a long day of sightseeing. I had fifteen of us from the USA and there was nothing but praise for the lovely, quiet setting; the warm and friendly article and the quaint waterside rooms ... I totally recommend this little island paradise for the discerning traveller interested in value for money. Dr Meath Conlan - Australia
