We spent four nights at this fabulous little resort after a hectic few days in Bangkok. It is maintained to a very high standard, beautiful grounds edging the Kwai river, immaculately clean and well serviced bungalows, lovely swimming pool, excellent food, attentive, smiling staff. Nothing was too much trouble for the owners, who gave expert tips on the best places to visit and arranged the trips for us with trusted taxi companies, including a boat that picked us up from the resort landing stage and took us to the bridge over the River Kwai at Kanchanaburi. We would recommend the Oriental Kwai Resort to anyone visiting this fascinating area. We are a family of four adults, but other guests were singles, couples, and families with small children.

Room Tip: All the bungalows are placed well, so that views of the gardens or river are special.

This has to be one of my most favourite places to be in the world. This hotel is superb in all aspects. Waking up in the morning to the gentle flow of the River Kwai, with the associated animal sounds of the jungle is surreal, Everything in this hotel has been planned to the finest details, Rooms as excellent, spacious and decorated to the highest standard. The food is exquisite. The facilities this hotel offers are excellent. Thai people are some of the most welcoming in the world and the staff in this hotel are no exception. Nothing is too much trouble.

A clean, comfortable and tranquil hide away at the bank of River Kwai. Very attentive service and everyone is definitely eager to please. I can not easily conceive how anyone can complain about such a lovely place on earth!?

Upon arrival we are promptly greeted and welcomed by Evelien, the owner and our gracious host.

Housekeeping team will observe guests going for breakfast and by the time you return to your room, your room has been made up, how great is that!?

Each day we would return to the resort in our own car and upon arrival, one attentive member of the staff would run towards us with our room key in his/her hands to save us the way to reception (10 steps). You have to love this type of attentiveness and effort.

English skills among the line staff are not the greatest but hey, you are in the midst of rural Thailand and Thai People do speak Thai, that's the way it is, we are the guests in their country! And their attentiveness and eagerness to please makes up for all a few times over.

The menu variety is more than adequate for a couple of days and their pricing is fair. Unlike other places where guests are seen as captive audience and price gauging results, there is no such thing here. So we were very comfortable to have all our meals here and a couple of bottles of wine throughout our stay. Totally relaxing.

The resort has been built with a lot of pride and a great eye for detail by a couple who is obviously not just in it for the short term but they have dedicated their heart and soul to this project.

Only a short drive from the famous river Kwai Bridge and a slightly longer drive to the Erawan Waterfalls, this place is well positioned for guests to easily visit some of the many sights in and around Kanchanaburi.

Oh, did we mention the Spa, which is operated separately by a different owner but only 10 minutes away with complimentary pick up and drop off!? Divine, best Thai massage ever (and yes, I have had many)!

This is one of the places we have definitely earmarked for a return visit!

We have stayed at Oriental Kwai before and our experience is always superb! It is very rare to find a place that has it all, wonderful setting, excellent service, great food, reasonable prices and is run by a staff that makes you feel special rather than like just another customer. We enjoyed eating in the open air restaurant right on the river. This is a great jumping off spot to visit Erawan Falls and the Bridge over the river Kwai.

Room Tip: We stayed in the room that was right on the river and it was really worth the small difference in pr...

I have to be honest, it is very hard to find a place that makes you feel wow! Well this is one of them.
I can probably write so many things, all of them will be great.
This is a fantastic place to relax. What Evelien and her husband accomplished here is absolutely extraordinary.
I have only one thing to point out, the quality of the beds. This is probably the only thing we thought can be better, good comfy bed to make this absolutely perfect!

From the moment we arrived the service began, the staff rushing to greet us, a cold towel, refreshing juice and the owner Evelien welcoming us. The room or cottage was very well appointed and nothing was out of place, we where hungry so we tried the culinary delights on the menu and were not disappointed here either. After lunch relaxing by the pool and time to unwind. Dinner was taken in the hotel restaurant, we arranged a tour the following day with Joe the husband and his advise on what to do assisted us to pick a tour worth heading out on. Then the superb selection again before heading off to watch a couple of movies from the vast free selection on offer.
We enjoyed a leisurely breakfast before our tour van arrived. This hotel lacks for nothing to be honest, the staff are wonderful helpful and ensure you enjoy your experience with them. Highly recommend the establishment, but be aware it is a distance form the town so if you have had a full day out the last thing you want is to head back in for a meal the river is right there to enjoy so why does one need to travel all the eway back. Thanks Evelien & Joe and to your staff highly recommend your Boutique Hotel

Room Tip: If you don't get a River view Cottage don't worry the others are just as wonderful overlooki...

This is simply a beautiful boutique resort. It has 12 bungalows in lush tropical gardens. We were in cottage no.1 which directly overlooked the river kwai. The rooms were impeccably clean, spacious, modern thai style. Just lovely to stay in. All the staff were very friendly and did their utmost to provide us with everything we needed. Evelyn the owner was fantastic. She gave us alot of information on where to go and what to do. Even the resort dog became our adopted pet! Our only regret was that we didn't stay long enough. The resort is approximately 20 min out of town so you will need to catch a taxi in. Would highly recommend staying at least 3 full days here doing Hellfirepass Memorial and a waterfall visit one day, Kanchanaburi War Cemetery, Thai Burma railway museum and town visit the next. Although we did not do it, we wish we had done the day visit to the local elephant camp. Everyone raved about it. We chose a commercial elephant trek company and were saddened to see the elephants chained up. Apart from this, we loved Kanchanaburi and the Oriental Kwai was the perfect place to come back to in the afternoon for a swim, have a few drinks and a beautiful meal at night. Thanks to all at the Oriental Kwai!
