A peaceful and serene place. Most importantly rooms and bathrooms were very clean. Lovely garden with cute garden ornaments here and there.
After staying in the garden and river view, my choice in future would be the river view. Firstly, there is more privacy(you get to open your curtains without reservation) and you get the perfect view and place to relax. However, there is only one with the river view and you might need to book early if you decide on that.
A bit of advice. Make sure you go to the Sai Tai Bus terminal and not the other one or you would have no choice but to take the van(like us). DON'T take the van. They will stop and stop to pick passengers and despite having bought extra ticket for our bags, we had to put down our bags as they kept picking up passengers along the way! Moreover, the van is too cramp. When you reach the Kanchanaburi bus terminal, call the hotel as they provide free shuttle, Be aware that the van is actually a tuktuk and not the hotel van as you might be waiting and waiting for the hotel van(like us).

Tours can be arranged on the spot at the hotel. A trip to the River Kwai bridge by boat is recommended. From there you can go to the museum and the war cemetary. Opposite the war cemetary is a Catholic Church.

Want to know why this place is the No 1 in Kanchanaburi for so long? Well....
Reservation is made so easy through emails. Prompt replies for every mail. No deposit required or having to give your credit card number. That is why this place is so special. Even upon arriving at night, we went straight into our room without any registration. And this is how the days go. They trust you. No payment until the last day. Evelien is ever so generous.

Room Tip: Take the river view.

Having booked the accommodation 8 months in advance we had to cancel at 2 weeks notice following a family illness. Evelien could not have been kinder or more generous (no charges). Cannot comment on accommodation, but the owners are clearly caring hosts and we will plan to visit next year and repay their kindness.

During our three week trip through Thailand and Laos on our motorbikes was this the best value for our money we had.
Nice location, good rooms, top food, friendly staff.
And also important all for a very moderate price.
Will definitely go back to this little resort.
Dank je wel Djo en Evelien.

Absolutely loved our stay. Spent 4 nights. Bungalow was luxurious, every detail considered. Peaceful, well kept gardens on the river kwai. Eveline's thought of everything before you have. Service was great. We went to elephant world, amazing day.

Room Tip: IF you do not have children and really want peace and quiet then ask for a bungalow away from the po...

My 17 yr old son and I spent 3 nights at the Oriental Kwai Resort in December 2013. All the emails I sent before we arrived were promptly answered and even additional suggestions provided. It was such a peaceful place to base ourselves for three days of sighseeing in the Kanchanaburi area. We loved being without tv but having a huge selection of dvds to watch. The meals were fantastic and we ate dinner there every night of our stay - no need to go into Kanchanaburi as the variety at OKR was more than sufficient. The service from all the staff was excellent. Our room was spotlessly clean each day when we returned from our day of adventure. The setting (garden and the riverside) was beautiful and very restful. Free wifi and access to laptops at reception was great. We didn't use the pool but it was always clean and inviting. The transport to and from the resort was arranged for us (free on arrival and a reasonable cost on departure). If you want to get away from it all I would suggest that you check it out. If you want a quiet place to stay but with access to some amazing scenery and experiences this is also the place. I cannot wait to return!

Lovely cottages in beautiful gardens. Excellent, helpful, friendly service. And delicious food at the restaurant next to the river. Can be difficult to find in an area with intermittent mobile coverage so take a map or satnav.

Oriental Kwai is exactly you hope it will be. Small scale, beautiful garden with many small details and great location (bang on the river) combined with good quality villas. The food was extraordinary and the setting only improves the taste. Our son (3) loved to play in the garden. The pool is lovely for an early morning dip or late afternoon cool down. Evelien, Djo and the team will make sure you will have nothing to think or worry about (we forgot something that Evelien was so kind to send after us). Welcome to Thailand! Ps do not forget to try the Tom Ka Gai and Pad Thai, the best we had during our trip!

Room Tip: All rooms are of same quality so it depends whether you prefer being close to the river or close to...
