“Just what we needed.”

My wife and I are on a fairly long road trip around Thailand visiting all of our family here. We stumbled across this place on TripAdvisor the night before arriving in the area. Very glad we did. We spoilt ourselves with the Kingsize Bedroom for ฿500 (£10). Aircon, fast and reliable WiFi, hot shower, a few English language TV channels and a great bed! Staff were great, always happy to help.

The inclusive breakfast was simple but nice. Hot drinks, toast, cakes, cereal and juices. A more 'complete' breakfast is offered over the road for ฿120. But we felt our included one was spot on.

It's a bit out of the way, but certainly not in a 'dead' area. There is a Tesco Lotus two minutes walk away and many restaurants, street vendors and bars within a ten minute walk.

Highly recommended. Will stay again!

I was planning to stay here for a few weeks, but althought the staff were friendly and the room and the breakfast were good...its a little out of the way, took us a good hour to find it after arriving at Khon Kaen airport... a communication pylon right outside the bedroom window wasn't good....ask to be moved if you get this room, also Police arrived and handcuffed to men in the next room and took them away....don't know why!

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the otherside away from the Pylon....

We stayed here for 3 nights. Overall a very positive stay and I would recommend it if you are in Khon Kaen.

Positives:
- rooms were nicely decorated and had plenty of furniture (more than I had seen in most Thai guest houses)
- wifi was good and a/c worked well
- bathrooms were clean and shower was hot
- rooms have a small balcony to hang clothes (not to sit and relax in)
- British owner is very friendly and talkative. He gave us a ride into town one day.
- quiet at night

Negatives:
- a little far from town. You can take the 9 bus (a truck) into town for 19 baht.
- ordering food was complicated. we tried ordering a few times and were always told we couldn't. the final time we tried it was successful, but they got our order wrong and overcharged us.

nan and phillip are so nice and accommodating. the room was large and super clean. fridge, air-con,fan,balcony, sat.t.v.,wi-fi. really pretty garden sitting area where you eat your continental breakfast and really nice water wall in the back. the maids are incredible and can arrange to have your laundry done for you or for 30B you can use the washing machine. drying racks are provided on the balcony where you can smoke. quiet location and the taxis and tuk-tuks are cheap to go anywhere in the city or be adventurous and take the #9 bus and see the city for 9B per person. liked this hotel so much that we stayed 3 weeks instead of one. way to go Nan and Phillip, we'll be back.

Room Tip: anything you need. talk to Nan or Phillip.

This place has everything you need for a really good price, The rooms are really lovely, with all the conveniences that you could ask for. The staff were very welcoming. It is in a little residential area so nice and quiet but very easy to get in to town. I thoroughly recommend it, and will go back again.

We'd burnt all our bridges except the one we were travelling across from Savannakhet to Mukdahan. After five days or so in southern Laos wending our way from town to town on local buses and confronting the realization that the standard of accommodation wasn't getting any better we decided to abandon our itinerary and return to civilization: Thailand.

Our ultimate destination was Nong Khai; but, craving some much needed rest and recuperation, we decided to break our journey in Khon Kaen. Fortunately, I'd hurriedly emailed a booking request to Nan's Hotel just before leaving Savannakhet, based on the strength of a single solitary review I'd stumbled across on TripAdvisor.

We had no idea how to get to Nan's from Khon Kaen bus station but I'd scribbled down their phone number and asked a tuk-tuk driver to ring them for directions, which he did and also happily informed us that our reservation had been received. Phew!

Nan's is a little out of the town centre, which is not necessarily a bad thing if you are seeking some quiet respite from your travels. However, it is only a few minutes walk from there to a bustling street market, plenty of good restaurants and a couple of well-supplied supermarkets. Also, the blue songthaew which regularly passes out front of the hotel will take you on the short trip into town (including the bus station) for 9 baht only. So, who's complaining?

This is one of the rare occasion's that what you find in reality is equal too or even better than what is portrayed on a hotel's website. For 450 baht a night (including a buffet breakfast) we took grateful possession of an absolutely immaculate mini-suite featuring a supersoft king-size bed, cable TV, fast wi-fi connection, medium-sized fridge, two person couch, plenty of wardrobe and table space, an almost overabundance of lighting, air conditioning and a ceiling fan, a beautifully appointed ensuite bathroom, and even a small balcony.

We felt like we must have indeed died in Laos and entered Nirvana.

Nan and Philip, the owners, obviously have very high standards and their friendly and efficient staff are doing a very good job in keeping things that way.

Philip, who hails from England, lost no time in making sure we were fully acquainted with all the extra facilities available which included free use of the fully equipped outside kitchen if we wished to self-cater, and also the adjacent washing machine and dryer. What more could you ask for?

After three days and nights ensconced in our womb we were willing and able to hit the road again.

Anyone seeking a break from a long and dusty journey through north-east Thailand should definitely make a bee-line for Nan's Hotel.

Room Tip: We had corner room 314. Good views in that direction.
