“Very relaxing”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 January 2010

I thought that the place was very relaxing. Each villa has a private swimming pool, which meant we could relax in privacy. The Resort also provided pool service so it was great to wine and dine around the pool.

The Resort has just been upgraded, with a new bar in the reception area and new international cuisine being offered in the Restaurant for those not yet used to the spicy Thai food.

The only big issue was the road outside the Resort, this is now being widened and fixed, so there was some disruption here, but nothing the Resort could do about that. anyway the road must be all but finished now

The food was great and the service good too, the staff were very friendly and did speak good English.

The Resort has also just received an internet upgrade with high speed wifi available throughout the resort now.

There is loads to do close to the Resort, everything from rafting to elephant rides to diving, taking day trips to the islands and of course massage. The resort also arranged for Thai massage in the villa.

All in all a great releaxing place, but the best thing by far is the private Villa and private pool scenario

Having had an enjoyable stay here before, we decided to return, mainly because we love the option of having the private pool. We were a party of six and we had three villas. We got them for a great price approximately £35 per villa per night. It was hard rating the resort this time around as certain aspects of our stay were fine and others were poor and ultimately we hadn't paid a great deal for our stay, and it's shortcomings didn't spoil our holiday.

I will start with the negatives and finish with the positives. The first thing to say is that the villas are beginning to look tired, paintwork, fixtures and fittings are not in the best condition. Some things need repairing others need replacing. The villas, although being marketed as luxury, are more simple yet comfortable than out and out luxury. As for cleanliness then again things have changed for the worse, the last time we stayed our Villa was cleaned by a team of four or five who would fettle it from top to bottom inside and out on a daily basis. This time round there was one person who would spend 20 minutes doing the basics such as sweeping the floors, making the beds etc.. and on 3 days the Villa wasn't cleaned despite placing the 'clean my room' sign out. Outside the villas, things such as the patios and furniture only got cleaned a handful of times whilst there. Finally although our pool was clean and sparkling upon our arrival and was cleaned daily for the first week by Ed, after this our pool never received further cleaning, I presume due to the reasons given below, but we found this unacceptable and if you look at the photo you can see how the water had turned green by the last couple of days.

Annoyingly some of the advertised services were not available (we were told upon our arrival that this was due to it being low season) and we feel that these should have been drawn to our attention at the time we enquired about booking. Namely the free transfer to Ao Nang was not available, the restauarant was closed, internet facilities were not available and the shop is permanently closed now.

The positives were, we got a great price for our villas, the pool was great until the water turned green, we love the location even if it is down a bumpy unmade road, it is away from it all but we love the tranquility (We had no trouble finding a Taxi willing to transport us to and from the resort, in the end we settled on (Tuk Tuk No7) who were reliable and transported us to and from Ao Nang for 150 baht each way). We were also afforded a late checkout which we appreciated.

Now for the 'Fawlty Towers' moments. When we arrived we were greeted by Ed who was the manager, he was the one who broke all the news to us about lack of services and that the resort was being run by three staff including himself, however half way through our stay the owner turned up. Within 24 hours we were told by one of the two remaining staff that Ed had been sacked (apparently some Aussies had done a runner without paying), and every day after this they would complain they didn't have time to clean every day, that they couldn't spray round our rooms with mosquito spray after cleaning as the owner wouldn't buy any more? The staff came in turn to each of our villas and asked if they could have the Heineken out of our mini bars for the owner until they were all gone, this wasn't really a problem as we weren't drinking it but surely you don't raid the guests fridge so the owner can have a drink? Lastly we were asked if we could pay two days before we were due to leave as the owner was supposedly going and he wanted the money before he left, don't know if he didn't trust the two remaining staff but again very bizarre, even more so as the owner was still there when we left!

Would I return here, probably not, often things don't live up the 2nd time round, just because you have high expectations, however this didn't match up due to standards slipping, at £35 a night the resort probably just deserves it's score of three. If i'd paid any more then the rating would undoubtedly have been lower.

Great place to stay if your after a relaxing time with helpful friendly staff.

The villas are of a good standard and cleaned every day (only when your out). We hired a car for the duration of the stay (700 baht per day about £14) so the distance from the beach was no big issue (not walkable). There were other guest who made use of a cheap and promt taxi service and found it to be no problem.

A small issue is some of the services provided do cease in low season (Restraunt etc)

All in all a great little place to stay.

OK so the place is quiet cheap for a pool villa in Thailand but it is still £100 a night.

We knew it was in a quiet area, just what we wanted but didn't realise it was down a dirt track with huge potholes that took at least 15 minutes for taxis to negotiate and in fact without charging a surcharge didn't want to travel down the road.

I always hate tourtists that complain about a lack of English...when in Rome! But they genuinely couldn't speak ANY English, a request for an ashtray at the villa took 4 staff and about 30 minutes and that included a mime of smoking!

The villas are basic and I mean basic, the bathrooms were filthy and the most basic I had ever come across, it's advertised as fully airconditoned but it's only got aircon in the bedrooms and they had cheaply removed the batteries out of one of the aircon remotes.

Getting back to a peaceful location, it was awful, the noise coming from the the three families surrounding us was enough to turn you insane. Great if you have kids but not when you want a quiet peaceful escape!

The pool was a good size and fairly private but absolutely filthy and they do not provide towels for the sunloungers, the only place I have stayed in Thailand where they do not provide towels for the sunbeds.

They also inform you that they offer free transport into Ao Nang up to 5pm each day. We requested transport into Ao Nang at 4.00pm and was told it was finished and we had to pay.

I suppose this is a cheap option for families as the villas are two bedroomed but for couples or a group of friends I would give this place a wide berth.

Needless to say we checked out early and will not be returning!

My partner, Mother and 2 yr old daughter stated at the Palm Resort ( Ao Nang Krabi) the villas consist of nine, are very well furnished and very clean. Each Villa has a separte swimming pool which is very adquate, the toen centre is approx 4KM away, nice walk. The villas have a resurant and the food is very good. Espcially the Chicken / Beef Fried rice. Had a wonderful stay staff were very friendly and accomodating.
