“Good budget hotel in great location near Patong Beach”
Reviewed 5 March 2012

week 1 of a 2 week stay in Phuket was at Arimana and it was chosen mostly due to price and location. It is a budget hotel, not a resort or international style upmarket one.

Positives:

- location (close to Patong walking everywhere without being on the main drag, so a little quieter at night)
- value (good if you're not going to be in the room much more than sleeping at night)

Room for improvements:

- breakfast spread (to be fair they only bill you 150 baht p/person p/day so you can't expect much, but in future, I'd save this option and choose to eat elsewhere)
- pool area (hard to improve this, but it's small and if there's others there, feels a bit crowded)
- coffee in the morning - can't be that expensive to get a decent machine!
- food in-room - sometimes we were just too tired to go out after a full day out - having a basic in room menu would be a valuable addition to the hotel no doubt increasing potential revenues

Based on our expectations, this hotel met them as we weren't there much more than to sleep. It came with wifi, a basic breakfast, and offered a restful nights sleep. I would return if on a budget again as it filled all of our needs.

In reading some of the other negative reviews here I wonder what people were expecting for $30-35 USD per night? I mean really. I had no issues around service or product considering the value they're offering. Some people, I guess are just a bit too demanding.

Room Tip: There's not really amazing views either side of the hotel. If you're looking for amazing roo...

Arimana Hotel is within walking distance from Patong Beach, Jungceylon Shopping mall and Bangla road. I didnt pay for tuk-tuk or taxi services...because its all nearby. There is push cart vendor around the corner who os selling noodle soup. You must try them.. its damn good and I think its operate 24hrs.

Highly recommend travelers to stay at Arimana.

Cheers

Poor service, tiny wadind pool, indifferent staff, overpriced..the list goes on. My room was not made up for three days in a row, despite the fact that I placed a "please make up room" tag on the door at 10.30 am each morning. Ended up checking out 3days early and going to another hotel.

I stayed at this hotel for 4 weeks last year and found all aspects to be first class. In particular, the staff were extremely helpful. Looking to return in Feb 2012

I've stayed at this hotel 3 separate times from 2006-2009,its very close to all the night spots of Patong beach but out of the way enough to be quiet in the evenings. The hotel itself is small but very clean with a small plunge pool. The only draw back is its set on the road of Nanai.Other than that its very clean & tidy & very reasonable priced.Would recommend to anyone.

Situated at a 5 minute's walk from the jungceylon mall, I found this hotel quite a value for money with a nice location and neat rooms for a price that was a bargain.
Although the hotel lacks good frontage and is amidst an urban jungle, the service standards and the price make up for this void.
Rooms are small though well maintained. Bathroom is a drub with no bathtub nor a walk-in shower. Balcony opens out to a view of the nearby concrete buildings.

Continuing on with the plus points, there is a cozy pool to chill out (that unfortunately closes too early in the evening) and a friendly staff ready to assist in whatever ways they can. Breakfast is minimal and elegant although the reception area doubles up as the dining zone. Bangla road/Jungceylon mall are just a 5-10 minutes' walk away.

For 900 bahts/night during the off season, I rate this as a good value for money stay in Phuket for families and group of adults alike.

I would just like to point this place out as the worst hotel I have ever stayed in.. We got booked into this place by a travel agent in bangkok who made this hotel out to be lovely.. we paid for superior rooms only to find out the hotel only has standard rooms! But thats not the worst part.. what happened in this hotel will sicken me for the rest of my life... I was travelling with my girlfriend through thailand and planning to go onto Australia after.. I had 700 australian dollars in my bag in my room.. on the last day we were staying.. the hotel staff broke into my bag and stole every penny of it.. Only to later claim they found the belt the money was hidin in.. There are no security boxes in the rooms and i can guess why now.. even when i confronted the staff about the matter they were the most unhelpful people i have ever come across.. They told me to get out of thailand if i didnt like it!! and that was the hotel head receptionist but to call this place a hotel is being to nice ! the hotel doesnt even have a restuarant and the "swimming pool" is no bigger than a bath tub.. I contacted the tourist police and they told me that the hotel has a reputation for stealing its guests possetions.. these people are discusting

ARIMANA, Owner at Arimana Hotel, responded to this review, 4 October 2011
I am writing this reply on behalf of all staffs at Arimana Hotel. The content in this review is mostly bias. Also, our staffs have been falsely accused of being “Robbers and Thief”.
Firstly, the booking voucher sent by the travel agency did clearly state that they book standard room. Therefore, the receptionist had to assign standard room for Mr. Conor M and his girlfriend. The room type, which had been chosen, is the result from the agreement between the guest and travel agent. We were not with the guest and the travel agent while they were planning the trip so we wouldn’t know the room type that the guest and the travel agent are both agree. We assign the room as per the details stated on the voucher, which was sent to us by the travel agent. As a result, if the guest would like to change or modify any detail in their booking they have to contact their travel agent directly. We had already explained the situation to Mr. Conor M but he did not even try to understand this. In our opinion, this was not the hotel's mistake. It could be said that Arimana Hotel should not be complained about this issue.
Secondly, it’s not fare for the hotel and our staffs if Mr. Conor M accuse us as “Robbers and Thiefs” without any evidence.
Many parts in the story written in the review were distorted. It all started when the guest called back to us after he and his girlfriend had left the hotel to Phi Phi Island. He told us that they forgot a belt in the room. We found the belt and sent it to his hotel on Phi Phi island by requesting the company who operate transfer between Phuket and Phi Phi Island to organize this shipping. We also record the name of the staffs and captain that were in charge of this shipping. We didn’t even charge for any handling fee. How could he claim that we were the most unhelpful people? After he got his belt he called back to the hotel and told us that there was a zip on another side and they hid 700 dollars in that belt but their money was lost.
Just only Mr. Conor M could found his money, how could he claim that our staffs stole the money? Two days later, he came back to Arimana Hotel and impolitely asked to see the manager but the manager was in Phuket town. The receptionist called the manager and reported about this issue. The manager told that after she finish her business she would go back to the hotel asap and this may take no more than 2 hrs. In order to show our sincerity, the manager also inform that she would come to the hotel together with the polices so that the police could investigate whether or not our staffs stole the guest’s money. Mr. Conor M said that 2 hrs is too long and he wanted to see the manager right away. Mr. Conor M did not make any appointment not even inform us in advance that he would come back to Arimana to discuss about this matter. How could the manager come back to the hotel to see him right away? He was very angry and started complaining. He used very rude words when he talked to the receptionist. Everyone including people outside the hotel heard every dirty words and she was embarrassed. Moreover, he said that Thai people are all cheating; this country is suck and so on. That’s why the receptionist who had just worked in the hotel for only 3 days could not stand listening he blamed and embarrassed her. After that he and his girlfriend had gone. He did not even give the opportunity for the hotel to find the solution or to prove anything.
We would like to point out that:
1. We have safety deposit box with 24 hrs CCTV at the reception area and also CCTV on all floors. Moreover, we always inform the guests both by writing and telling that safe deposit boxes are available free of charge. The guests should keep their valuable belonging in the deposit box provided. How could the hotels take full responsibility for any valuable belonging left in the rooms while sometimes the guests bring the joiners from out side to the hotel? This is the reason why most hotels as well as Arimana clearly state on registration form that “The hotel will not held responsible for any valuables and high price personal belonging left by the guest in their rooms”. This is not an excuse using to decline our responsibility. Please put yourself in our shoes. If you are hotel operator, what would you say when the guests claim that they keep $500 in the room and the money is lost. Without any evidence, will you pay the money back to them right away? Many times the guests lost their money somewhere else outside the hotel but the claim that it is stolen by the hotel staff. We are not saying that all guests behave like this but we are pointing out the problem that many hoteliers have faced.
2. Not only staffs from Arimana Hotel who touch the belt, but also all people who were the part of the shipping including the hotel staffs on Phi Phi Island. Why did Arimana staffs were accused as a thieves?
3. The guest should have informed us that they hid the money in the belt so that we would take a special care of this case. We did not even notice that there was a zip made to hide their money.
For the above reasons, we would ague that our staffs should not be accused as a “Robbers and thief”.
