“A Little Disappointing - Great Location Though”
Reviewed 19 September 2011

I stayed for two nights. Last time i visited Patong i walked past this hotel & thought it looked nice from the street so after researching it online i decided to give it a go and stay for two nights to try it out. I must say i was disappointed. We booked the Beachfront Pool Villa. The room is dated. The beachfront is covered with a hedge and glass that really doesnt give you much of a beachfront view. I thought you could actually go to the beach through your room but you cant. The room is ceiling to floor glass and there are guards who stand out the front of this glass so you dont have much privacy. People can walk past the front of your room where the pool is and actually see in. There are blinds but this defeats the purpose of having a beach front room really. The pool was alright. No sun lounges or anywhere to sit by the pool so we didnt even use it. We used the hotel pool instead which again defeats the purpose of paying so much for the luxury of your own pool. Upon check in we were made to wait an hr and a half because apparently the people who were just checking out were ill (not the welcome you want to hear when going into a room after someone has just been sick in) it kind of smelt like someone was sick in there. We complained at reception re the smell but were told there wasnt anything they could do for us. The lunch was not that nice at the downstairs restaurant either (the bread was really dry). The bathroom didn't have air conditioning so it was like stepping into a sauna. The whole stay here was not that nice. Maybe we were just spoilt at the Holiday Inn beforehand and had high expectations. I personally couldn't wait to get out of here. A real let down.

This was our second time returning to La Flora and I can say confidently that it is the best in Patong. The staff are so friendly and are always willing to help you with anything you need. The rooms are perfect (although the beds are quite hard like most beds in thailand hotels). It is definatly well worth paying a little extra for a lot more! I have stayed at 2 different hotels in Patong and have had extremely bad experiences with both. All I can say is if you want to stay somewhere that you will have no problems with then stay here.

Room Tip: If your tossing up between pool access or pool view, i'd recommend pool view as pool access room...

We have just returned from 7 nights at La Flora Resort Patong and it was fantastic !
The rooms are beautiful, great size rooms, comfortable beds and everything you could possibly want while on holidays was provided in the rooms and being in a busy part of Patong it was nice and quiet. The pool was really good too.
The staff are amazing they all went out of their way each day to make sure we didnt need a thing, even at breakfast we were offered fresh squeezed juice and cappuccinos after the 2nd day they just bought them straight over the minute we walked in and they bought an IPAD for us to use to read the Autralian paper !!
We ate at the restaurant 3 times, 2 of those were great the other dinner was ok.
It was great to walk back into La Flora at the end of the day, we will definately be staying there again.

Room Tip: We overlooked the pool which we thought was better than pool access as they were not as private

We stayed 2 nights in the seaview suite and 1 night in the loft villa with private pool. The service and location are fantastic. Staff are very friendly and professional. Breakfast assortment was well done. The chef does a fantastic job with the eggs.

I would have to agree with others though about privacy. I wouldn't stay in a direct access pool room because everyone can peer into your room from the pool and therefore you need to keep your net curtains closed all the time.

The same is to be said about the seaview suite, although the room is huge and the view is spectacular, if you have the net curtains open then everyone on the beach can look up into your room. You have to have the net curtains closed all the time, which defeats the purpose of having a seaview suite. It would be fantastic if they put in one way glass so you can have the curtains open to enjoy the view.

The loft villa with private pool was beautiful and we certainly took advantage of the pool.

A really nice touch was the bottle of champagne, bed decoration and cake, free of charge, because it was our wedding anniversary. This was a wonderful surprise.

Sunset on the roof was so relaxing.

The mattresses everywhere in Thailand are rock hard, obviously that's the way they like them but I prefer my pillowtop mattress at home - but that's just my personal preference. The pillows at La Flora were wonderfully soft.

After a long winded process of reviews & pricing ect we decided to book the hotel for 8 nights. This was our first trip to Phukett and basically researched what we could about the Patong area and thought this place would suit us quite well. At first was a bit hesitant as it was very pricy compared to other resorts around the Patong area. The entrance into the hotel is real let down, basically if you blink you'll miss it! The lobby was small and again nothing spectacular. After checking in we were told our room wasn’t ready and after a long flight the last thing we wanted to do was wait around but it was only for half an hour so we didn’t make a fuss.

Location
This hotel is located smack bang in the middle of it all. Good location with good security.

Rooms
We booked the deluxe pool access room - as I wanted to just jump into the pool from our room at our leisure and get straight out in front of our room. How wrong were we. There were no steps from the pool back into your room so I had to swim right around 2 rooms up and walk past on the landing no bigger than 20cm past other guests room to get back to mine. The pool also had alot of mould on the tiles so we were reluctant to dunk our heads! No privacy at all! The floors in the room were continually gritty – we had to walk around with our thongs on in the room. The shower was mouldy and the toilet kept continually blocking. The air con was nice and cold and the control which turns lights on/off and air cons etc next to your bed is a nice touch. Our mini bar was only re stocked in the afternoon. It took forever to cool down – as the fridge never really got cold! We continually got woken up with doors being closed in the hallways – the seriously need the get catches on these doors as it honestly startles you awake! Also got woken up at 1am by 2 adults and a 3 year old child splashing about in the pool! Also the pool closes at 7pm of a night – which was disappointing!

Beach
Yes there is a beach behind the hotel – it is a homosexual beach, not that that bothered us. Continuous fire crackers going off which again jolted you from your sleep. We got stopped by the hotel security guards when we walked up from the beach – they didn’t realise we were guests. The security guards are at the back of the resort 24 hours a day which makes you feel a little more secure.

Service
The staff were good. The concierge we found was quite pushy! When we first arrived we went to the desk and asked for a map and some simple questions and he didn’t really give us the answers we were looking for instead said we should go to his mates tailor shop and get a suit (he would then get the commission). We did not book anything through the resort after this! After checking out they go and check your room to make sure you haven’t stolen anything! We found this quite unprofessional.

Restaurant/Bar
The rooftop bar was lovely! The staff were great and the meal was run out promptly. We were serenaded by a 2 piece band which was a lovely touch. The restaurant for breakfast was fine. Found the breakfast spread to be a little boring – but just depends on what your after. Ate lunch here as well found the prices quite reasonable.

Overall we paid quite a bit for our 8 night stay and we were very disappointed. We based our choice on the reviews it received from trip advisor and pictures we saw on their website. The pool access rooms in general are a waste of money! Now that we have been to Phukett there are plenty of other resorts way cheaper that looked a lot nicer. I still can’t understand why this resort keeps getting good reviews.

Room Tip: Save your money for something a little better down the road!

Great location with the nightlife at your doorstep, but so peaceful and quiet and right on the beach! Service was absolutely fantastic. Recommend the Orient Massage across the road too.

Having stayed at many hotels in Patonf and around Phuket the only thing in La Flora's favour is its location. The rooms are small, although reasonable well appointed, the pool access villa we had (as do all) has people swimming past youe room less than two metres away, the gym was under reconstruction which was not relayed to us at time of booking, and the beach access and 'private' part of it is bloody awful and dirty.

i do not understand why this place has good reviews and can only think that it because there are many Asian guests who are not used to large hotel rooms or peeople who genuinely have not stayed in superior accommodation.

There are many cheaper alternatives in Patong that are of a much higher standard and the three days that we stayed there made me miserable!

Room Tip: Pick one in a different hotel and save yourself some money! A good 5* hotel such as the Holiday Inn...
