It is hard to know where to start with this wonderful little hotel but I will give it my best shot.
It is located at the northern end of Patong just on the south side of Gracelands. It faces north/south so you don’t get the problem of the blazing sun in the mornings and the afternoons it you are using the veranda. You do get a little sun but it does not last for long.
Just outside the hotel is a pancake lady (yum) and nearby is a small supermarket with limited stock but a little further to the rear ring road are larger mini marts and it is only a 10-15 minute walk to Jungclyon and Bangla RD
It is a smallish hotel shaped in a V with one storey, two storey and three storey rooms down each side of the V shape. All open up onto lovely lush tropical gardens. Reception, restaurant and small pool with pool bar are at the front of the property.
There are 8 one and two bedroom units at ground floor level. The two bedroom ground floor units are larger and better appointed than the one bedroom. Other units are double storey with lounge downstairs and bedroom(s) up a very narrow flight of stairs. You can request ground floor units and where you want to be eg next to the pool or away from the pool. When I come back again I will get the two bedroom unit even though we only need one bedroom. There are air conditioners in both the bedrooms in the two bedroom units which, if you left the doors open would cool the lounge and kitchen area (fans only)
We had one of the older ground floor one bedroom apartments that had not been renovated yet however it was very comfortable if not as big and luxuriously appointed as some other units. It consisted of essentially two rooms with an ensuite off the bedroom. There is a small verandah with chairs and table outside. In the unit we were in there was no privacy barrier between us and the next room but many of the other units have such a barrier to give you some privacy. There is a fan on the wall of the veranda which not only cools but helps chase the mosquitoes away.
You then enter the first room which essentially is a lounge room with small kitchenette (sink and two burner cook top). Kitchen is equipped with cooking utensils, jug etc (no toaster so if you want to make some toast either bring a toaster or buy a cheaper here)
The room has a three seater lounge with coffee table, a small dining table with four chairs, cabinet with TV and a nice big frig ( not more bending down on hands and knees to get a beer out of the frig). A limited selection of books are provided if you run out of reading material.
The bedroom is large with a king size bed – pretty firm with comfortable pillows, large wardrobe and safe. There is small dressing table with mirror and drawers.
The bathroom is modern with shower, handbasin and reasonable shelf space together with a toilet.
The bedroom is airconditioned and there is a fan in the living room however the airconditioner in the bedroom adequately cools the front living room. ( I am not sure how effective this would be for the units with air conditioned bedrooms upstairs)
The hotel does not provide toiletries in the bathroom nor does it supply tea/coffee etc but bare in mind it is not a luxury hotel. If you want luxury eg large swimming pools gymnasiums saunas etc then this place is not for you.
There were a number of other rooms that we could see through the window that were larger than ours and more luxuriously furnished however ours was more than adequate for our needs particularly at the price
There is a relatively inexpensive restaurant on site with breakfast starting at 8am—if you are an early riser there are other breakfast places open earlier.
The beach is only a short walk down a laneway on the south side of Gracelands.
The hotel hires motor cycles for 200B per day and DO NOT HAVE TO PART WITH YOUR PASSPORT.
This property would not suit families with boisterous children as the swimming pool is only small nor would it be suitable for party animals.
I would suggest that you try and get rooms on the northern end of the property (towards Gracelands) as the ones around the pool and next to the restaurant could be a little noisy if you wanted peace and quiet.
We had a look at the adjacent Eden Bungalows and Bougainvilla apartments and believe the SPB is far superior
What you need to bring:
Bottle opener, can opener, cork screw.
Decent size bottle of sunscreen as you can buy it here but only in fairly small tubes.
David Grays’ insect fogger for outside on the veranda as the mosquitoes are fairly friendly ( When recently in Koe Samui we were able to buy a lot cheaper than Australia but could not find it in the mini marts of Big C.) Also a decent insect repellent to spray on you.
Small bottle of methylated spirits to use with a cotton bud to put in your ears morning and night and this will dry up any moisture after swimming, showering, sweating etc and prevent ear infections.
You can buy coffee milk tea and a huge selection of continental goods at the Big C supermarket at the back of Jungclyon (sorry about the spelling).
Power adaptor as hotel does not have any—you can buy them in Phuket however I needed to plug a Bali adaptor into the one I bought here to enable use of an Aussie plug.
Tea towel, dishwashing cloth would also be handy.
Be aware that this property is extremely popular and you should book well in advance particularly in peak times or the start of the low season (low prices) we tried to book a single bedroom deluxe unit 8 months ago but could only get the one mentioned above but now I glad as it is exactly what we wanted.
If you have difficulty climbing stairs be aware that a lot of the units have stairs to the first floor lounge area and then more stairs to the upper bedroom area.
All in all a great place particularly for those that like to have more than just a bedroom to spend your time in.
