“Great hotel in a great location”
Reviewed 7 July 2014

Just spent 12 nights here and loved it. Arrived well before check-in time and only had to wait 30 minutes before we could enter the room. We stayed in a pool side room which was fantastic - very spacious and was nice to have the pool there for a dip after a day out. The service of all staff was great and everyone was always willing to help with a smile on their faces.
The hotel itself is in a perfect position - right across the road from the beach and a short walk or tuk-tuk ride (no more than 200 baht) to the action in Bangla. There tended to be less noise being that distance away.
The main pool is lovely which overlooks the beach and has full bar service, the only fault I could find was that there is not much shade provided by the umbrellas in the afternoon purely because of the position of the sun. There are towels available for use as well.
Our room was spacious with a big bathroom which had a beautiful free standing bath and separate shower. The shower was great except there was a problem with the drainage and it tended to overflow after two showers. In-room safe, beach bag and enough storage for two.
We didn't buy the breakfast inclusive package, so am unable to comment on the breakfast service - the food that we did order though, was very nice and reasonably priced.
If you are thinking about booking this hotel, I would recommend it - it's not a huge hotel, is reasonably priced, the staff are very good and the positioning is great.

Room Tip: Try and stay in one of the rooms at the back of the hotel. Tuk-tuk cost us no more than 200 baht on...

Me and my partner stayed in the luxury suite for 8 days it was more than we expected the staff were extremely friendly and helpful with great attention to detail. They would take time to teaching us Thai words to the security guards wiping down our motorbike seats wen it was hot, opening doors every time you enter and leave to free canapés around the pool. Breakfast was the best buffet we have ever had there is everything you could imagine and was a+++ quality from Brie cheese, Salmon, honey comb, Thai food, Chinese food, every bread you can think of at least 6 different sweats and cakes to the amazing egg station. I could go on all day there was so much to choose from. Not one day out of the 8 was the food the same there was always different dishes so you never got sick of it with the special touch of the chef coming and having a laugh with you. The lunch and dinner menu was also unbelievable nothing was ever a hassle if you wanted to change your dish, or the chef would choose and make something to your liking. We stay at 5 star hotels a lot and think this is our favorite yet for the price is very reasonable for the treatment and service you receive. It was my partners birthday on our stay and they even brought a cake and candles to our room. We have stayed here once before in the lap pool room and were also very impressed you cannot go wrong here come and see for yourself it sounds to good to be true but I promise you will not be disappointed

My third visit here. It must be close to 2 yrs since my first stay.

Prices have varied a lot since my first stay which was around 4.000bht/night. I have seen it this year at over 6,000 (?!!) but an offer was on for just 3200 this time (pool access room). Which btw is what the price should be.

Its really nice at the B-Lay, there is no denying that, and its quiet here. No noise. But now it shows that B-Lay has a serious image problem at hand.

This review is mainly aimed at Management since they need to take action on the issues described below. B-Lay should maintain a high standard, standing in correlation to the image they want to present, and keeping the hotel, and not least their image, in mint condition.

At every stay service level has been high and every issue there may be, is dealt with quickly from front desk. Kudos to the staff (foreigners btw). Other hotels could learn from B-Lay what customer service -and CARE means.

This time however, lack of maintenance shows its ugly head and the image I was left with on my first visit, was surely not the same this time.

Room is nice and I still say its one of the best beds I have tried in a hotel in Thailand but....
Bed sheet had 2 HUGE holes/rips in it. Too big to justify that sheet ever to be used again.

The inside of the glass in the shower was dirty beyond belief and highly visible calcium deposits all over. The tile at the bottom of the glass had lots of cracks now. Floor boards, which are wooden planks, not aligned anymore and loose. The shower temperature is very difficult to set, it keeps changing by itself. Wanna shift from too hot to cooler, it goes too cold and vice versa.
The rain shower head hasnt been cleaned in ages, calcium in the holes. Lid-top of the toilet had a huge crack in it.

The minibar that used to be FREE-of-charge (12 drinks total - beer, soda, water), and refilled every day. That has now changed to a lousy coupon per day which gives you a free drink in their hotel bar from 6pm-730pm. So tied to be in the hotel if you want one free drink (a Coke if it was for myself). Which guests dont want to do so in reality, you lose the minibar and get nothing else. What a lousy swap! And need I say the prices in the minibar are now ridiculous ?!

They charge 510, or was it 530 bath for breakfast buffet. That is just too expensive!

I had room service food once, different dishes. As good as the food was on my first stay, just as bland and disappointing it was this time. Satay skewers (pork) had way too much fat on them and the Caesar Salad was not good either. The sauce (on the side) came from the cooler with texture like thick gravy. Thats not what one expects from a CS.

Lets go outside to the pool (from pool access room). This is NOT the main pool.
There are flower pots alongside the pool between the rooms. The surface underneath is covered in green alge now. The image it leaves me with is that if they cant deal with a bit of alge poolside, what about the pool itself, is it maintained and cleaned.

All these issues need attention and action has to be taken to keep their image and level of luxury that protrudes from the website. As a returning guest, it seems that management has completely lost the grip on cleaning/maintenance. Clean the bathroom, replace cracked tiles etc, and do NOT use ripped sheets. If you want to stand out from the crowd, then DO it. And in the food department, it would take so little effort to get it up a few notches to make it really delicious instead of going down the lazy and 'cheap' route.

If everything had been in order, I would have given this stay a solid 4 stars, 5 if food had been great!, since this IS a nice hotel and the price was right this time. But 3 stars and hoping management takes notes. And bring back the free minibar which is a nice touch of class I might add.

As others say about this place, it cant be much closer to the beach and a walk to Bangla Road/Jungceylon takes a good 15 minutes. Its a nice walk along the beach. Or 80-100 baht on a bike taxi. There is a 7-11 and a Familymart right around the corner from the hotel main entrance.

This was our second stay at the B-Lay Tong. We enjoy the location across the road from the beach, close to facilities and the markets just a five minute ride by tuk tuk. The food at B-Lay Tong is first rate with a great selection of local dishes and gourmet offerings as well. Prices are excellent and the service is great. Every night you can enjoy a cocktail at the bar and watch the beautiful sunsets over the beach. We stayed in a pol front room and it is lovely to return to the room in the heat of the day for a dip in the pool. We highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Pool front rooms are a generous size, upstairs rooms have a spa on the balcony with views over the g...

My wife and I stayed here for 4 nights end of last month. Nothing I can say would do justice to the food & service here. The team led by the GM are simply fabulous. The hotel was just fantastic. The GM has been leading from the front and they leave no stone unturned to make sure that you have the best experience and leave the hotel with the sweetest and fondest memories. The team is always smiling and ever ready to assist you in any way possible. I am very glad we chose this hotel and would not think of staying anywhere else when we visit in the near future hopefully.
Thank you very much Mr. Lacabanne and his entire team for a most memorable stay

This is the closest you will get to a hotel on the beach. It is across the street from the beach. They have a beautiful pool that overlooks the beach. The rooms were clean and comfortable with modern decor and the staff was very friendly.
