“A Few Problems to Iron Out”
Reviewed 22 July 2013

We 3 couples had such a fun holiday in Patong that my memories of the hotel are becoming fonder. First the good points, the hotel is new so quite a modern design built to suit its steep block at the northern end of Patong Beach. It has great elevated views of the beach and Patong itself. Waking up to our first sunrise after arriving late at night was lovely. Not a busy part of town so no traffic noise. Excellent gym and table tennis room. Cocktail hour drinks overlooking Patong on a still, warm evening was beautiful. Shuttle bus good, only a 5 minute walk to the nice quieter end of the beach was great. Our rooms were clean and adequate. We believe we had 3 of the 5 best rooms in the hotel D203, D204 and D205. D201 and D202 would be even better than ours as slightly more private. The 5 rooms open directly onto a 25m private lap pool that became our loungeroom for the 3 groups to get together. There is a bit of walking involved getting from building to building but we black-banned the lifts as a way of working off the holiday indulgences. Well worth it. Tim owns a 6 person taxi outside the front door. We used him several times to get to attractions rather than going on the attraction's coach that takes forever doing hotel pick-ups & drop offs. Just negotiate a price with him once you know what the attraction charges. He is such a lovely man and really appreciated the business. His sister has a laundry just outside the hotel which we also used and were really happy with her service.
On the downside...... walls are very thin. We stayed during the low season and it was still very noisy with guests leaving early for flights or tours - not always the hotels fault - some guests have absolutely no regard for others! Rooms have a doorbell which sounds like it rings in yours for 3 rooms either side. It became a huge joke with us all poking our heads out at once. The construction finish is pretty ordinary but it's not your house so chill..... No drawers in the rooms is annoying and the wardrobe is very shallow. We didn't bothering unpacking. My biggest gripe is the breakfast which was boring and NO BACON. Yes that's correct, no bacon. Some 'ham' floating around in brine is not a substitute. Bread and jam selection for example was really poor. There was no comparision to other buffet breakfasts we have experienced whilst holidaying in Asia. Getting a table for 6 was a problem every day even though there was empty tables everywhere. The staff didn't seem to get that we wanted to sit together.
Would I recommend it, kind of. Not the best place to stay if you want to relax around the resort a lot, especially with young kids. Go to the Merlin Beach Resort for that - amazing huge pools and ahhhh the breakfast.

Room Tip: D201 to D205 with the lap pool. Not D100 series rooms that are underneath so looked really dark with...

This was a great hotel though when we entered this 4 Star hotel lobby it was not at all impressive as the hotel is built at split levels and you can not see the 5 hotel building blocks. But once went into our room and saw the room and the view of the sea from the balcony our view of the hotel changed 360 degree.
The buffet breakfast also had a lot of variety and was tasty, Even the vegetarians also found some good items to eat.
This hotel is very close to the Patong Beach though due to one way you have to take a slightly longer way by Tuk-Tuk, etc. Best is to hire a scooter/bike which costs just 150 bhatt for 1 fill day.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view room and the rooms in D Block and E block at level 4 and 5 have great sea view. I...

The hotel is nice, most of reviews I read, said the takes long time to walk to the rooms, well yes it does, but is a big hotel, that`s how it is, is not the end of the world, unless you have a physical problem, is not a big deal. The rooms are simple, nothing special, the jacuzzi was dirty, but they clean it on request. So the service isn´t bad ones you request things, but it seems like the have a hard time keeping up to the standards. The hotel is in good shape and the rooms are clean, expect jacuzzi as mention before. Buffet breakfast is good. I believe that for the price you could probably find something better, no complains, but I will for sure try a different one in my next visit to Phuket.

The swimming pool is nice!

The hotel room is average in size but good enough for the price you paid. Located near the heart of Patong beach(about 15 mins walk) which is good since it is away from the noise. The beach(the start of patong beach) is about 5 mins walk. I got the montain view room but still provide a glimpse of ocean, the rooftop sun bed provide the ocean view so if you can have your sun bath there instead of the beach. And the good thing is they provide beach towel for you in the room. I love that the room is clean and the heater water did not run out after i fill the bathtub, but they do not provide toothbrush and toothpaste so please remember to get yours ready. The breakfast buffet is also good so we enjoyed our breakfast a lot ! Generally i feel good staying at the hotel for the price that i pay.

You have to start with the mind set this is a beach resort so there are compromises to be accepted. The hotel is spread over a number of levels and if you opt for the room with a view and a jacuzzi you will have a lot of walking to get out of the hotel.

It is away from the central entertainment so I would suggest ideal for families. The pool is good enough but the breakfast very disappointing, room service food seemed much better quality than the restaurant and not that expensive.

There is however a great seafood restaurant right on the beach down the road from the hotel....

I must say the beach is great but the sea appeared very dirty the time i was there, there were alsorts floating......

If a beach holiday is your thing then this is a good reliable place to make your base... enjoy!

Room Tip: go for the room with a jacuzzi or one that opens on to the pool.

Checked-in on 30Apr with my girlfriend and checked out on 03May with my fiancee.

Made arrangements with Ms Chadaporn from the Reservation Center via email for romantic room arrangement with candles & rose petals. It was planned as a surprise to allow me a private & intimate environment after our dinner to propose to my girlfriend.

There was some time-dependent arrangements to execute the surprise and I'm immensely glad to say that Ms Chadaporn, the beautiful ladies of Front Office, housekeeping & any other staff who assisted exceeded the expectations of my specific requests!

My fiancee was thoroughly surprised and touched by the setup and graciously accepted by proposal.

Thank you again, Sea Sun Sand Resort! Sue and myself will forever hold this special hotel in our memories...

As for the hotel, it's suitably located far enough from the hustle & bustle of Patong while providing a wonderful panoramic view of Patong bay from the swimming pool. The room were very well equipped & spacious and the toilet included an overhead shower and bathtub.
Breakfast spread was well balanced between international & local Thai fare.
Most of the rooms with a view or privacy are located deeper within the resort but the walk is reasonable nonetheless...

Room Tip: You may want to opt for the sea view rooms as the mountain view ones are basically overlooking a hil...

We arrived at the hotel with everyone tired and exhausted due to a really early flight. Checking-in took a lot longer than it should because of the little hiccups the front desk had with our reservation. We requested for 2 sea-facing rooms prior to our arrival and our request was acknowledged. However, upon arrival, we were told that we would need to pay an upgrade should we want a sea-facing room. We weren't very sure why weren't we told beforehard with regard to the extra charges. Nevertheless, we left out our intentions and settled for a normal room. The standard room was still spacious, and had it's little pond view too (which in turn resulted to a bad experience).

However, as days passed, we realised the amount of mosquitoes we had to deal with everyday, coming from the stagnant waters of the mini pond in our balcony. The pond was unkempt and breeded mosquitoes. Furthermore, breakfast in the hotel was not as fantastic as the amount you would have to pay should you require an extra breakfast for a non-hotel guest.

We had an airport transfer arranged with the hotel which was confirmed prior to our arrival, and again upon checking-in. During our email correspondence and upon checking-in, we had confirmed that an extra person to be included in the airport transfer would cost 200THB, and we therefore agreed to the amount stated. However, when we called down on the day of our pick-up to reconfirm, we were told by the staff again, it was 300THB for the extra person. After much negotiation on the phone, the unhappy-sounding and snickering receptionist finally conformed to the 200THB agreed on earlier. We finally went down to perform our check-out, and what shocked us this time is that the front desk staff now told us that it will cost 400THB for the extra person instead. It was extremely ridiculous to be quoted 3 different rates all within the same freaking day. The Front Office Manager stepped in, and she was the rudest of them all. She kept shouting and used rude words that one should not use towards one's guest. The front desk staff at this hotel has certainly ruined our beautiful trip.

I would never recommend this hotel to anybody else, and i'll definitely never step foot in it again. You can definitely pay cheaper for a better hotel in Patong. That's an assurance.
