“This resort made a bad ending in Phuket”
Reviewed 14 February 2014

We chose this resort thinking that everything will be top notch given the price and excellent reviews from the TA. Maybe because we are not of the so-called superior race or we only booked a superior room instead of a deluxe.

When we arrived at the resort in a tuk tuk, no one is at the concierge except for a security guard. This very kind guard helped us, two petite Asian girls, to bring our backpack down the vehicle. That's it, not even to the lobby, he just took our bags off the tuk tuk and left them right behind the tuk tuk, on the road. We were shocked, there is no respect for the guests' belonging. Though carrying luggage is not the job of a security guard, this is not the way to treat any hotel guests.

When we walked into the lobby, the scenery is breathtaking and the place looks magnificent. However, our check-in receptionist, a beautiful lady, is cold and insincere. She got another tiny lady to show us to our room, no one helped us with our bags yet, we are carrying our own bags, no introduction to the premise of the resort, just straight to the room and introduced us things in the room like the mini bar, complimentary water, bathroom, etc. and expecting a tips for these. What a joke.

In the room, we are looking for an international plug aka adaptor. We called the reception and they got some housekeeping guy to our room. This guy just stomped into our room, without greetings and with his shoes on. He is plain rude and told us off that the international plug is known as the adaptor.

The room is very small and with very poor finishing. Well, maybe like what the others have commented, get at least a deluxe room, ours is only a normal superior room.

The premise is serene and beautiful. We came to this resort to get away from the city life but the service staff left a bad taste. We regretted not staying put in the resort above the mega mall where we have stayed in for the past 3 nights before moving on to this high and mighty resort.

When we checked out, Ms Suwanna assisted us. She is very attentive and patient. When enquired for the usage of the changing room as we have checked out at noon but our flight is at night hence, we just stayed by the pool and like to change before departing to the airport, Ms Suwanna personally showed us the way to the changing room and seeing that there is no towel, she quickly brought two from another room for us.

While waiting for our cab at the lobby, my phone battery was flat, so I requested for somewhere to charge my phone, Ms Suwanna quickly showed me to a socket and found me an international plug too.

The entire bad experience was made up a little by Ms Suwanna. I still do not recommend this high and mighty resort to any Asian unless you want to be treated as second class guest. I will not return.

I would firstly like to apologise for the less than unsatisfactory experience you had on your recent stay with us.
Customer satisfaction is one of our utmost priorities at Amari Phuket and something we take great pride in working with team members to always strive to deliver the best experience possible to all our guests. As you rightly pointed out, we consistently receive excellent reviews from our guests on the service we provide, and so hearing about your experience comes as a shock to us, since this is not typical of the guest experience we pride ourselves in. To that end, we take your comments regarding the service you received very seriously and we will be working to addressing these issues.

Once again, please accept my sincerest apologies and please do let us know should we be fortunate enough to welcome you again, so that we can show you that the experience you received was not indicative of the service we pride ourselves in.

Yours sincerely,

Very attractive, modern hotel with an excellent position overlooking Patong Bay, but well away from its noisy 'charms'. Rooms are in banked blocks, each with its own balcony and sea view.

Ours was a single bedroomed 'apartment' with a comfortable king-sized bed and nice bathroom which included a spacious shower. Goodly amount of storage, safe, fridge etc. Complimentary bottled water. Good aircon and nightlight! Not great seats on balcony but good free WiFi.

Good idea -each room has large, solid pool bag to help cart all that paraphernalia about.

Two pools, both with bar service and access to small, private beach area. Ample sun beds even after breakfast (until 10am). Quiet all through the day with no piped music and few children (not really catered for specifucally)

Two restaurants - the Italian-styled Gritta is beautifully set by the beach which is floodlit at night; the other is more international with BBQs, burgers, fish and chips, pizzas as well as Thai cuisine. La Gritta seems fairly expensive (for Thailand) and whilst the service was attentive, the steak I had was barely warm and I sent back for a reheat; my wife's fish was nothing special and, with only two glasses of wine, the bill approached £80.

Food was fine in the other restaurant, but service was slow (there are many more seats) and we often waited 20 mins + for an initial bar drink. Price range was better here too. Fewer seats right by the sea.

We also took breakfast here: buffet style, pretty good except for coffee, which staff rarely proffered, meaning that one had to queue at the single (!) coffee machine which, gladly, was excellent.

Good experience overall, though not quite perfect.

We have just returned from 7 nights at this amazing place. Now before I begin I will let you know that I always read tripadvisor and worry that the hotel I am going to stay at is going to be bad. I read 100's of reviews on the Amari before we went on holiday and now have decided to write my first tripadvisor review. So here it goes.
After a long journey from bangkok and a delayed pick up from the airport (not hotels fault) we finally arrived at The Amari. As our luggage was quickly taken from us we were escorted through the lobby to the check in desk. As we walked into the lobby we saw the amazing view that the hotel offers from its location on the hillside which is to die for and the amazing lobby bar which we spent most nights drinking cocktails! We knew in a matter of seconds that the hotel was what we had been hoping for!
The check in was dealt with very efficiently and we were given amazing cold towels with the wonderful smell of jasmine to refresh us. We were then escorted to our room and along the way given a guided tour of where everything is.
Now to talk about the room. We stayed in room 7319 which I had upgraded to from the superior so this was the deluxe. It was large, contemporary and had a wonderful outlook to the ocean and the small private beach. The bathroom was nice and overall we couldn't fault the room. It had a large tv and universal plugs so no worry if you haven't got the adapters.
After unpacking it was the evening so we decided to go the the pool bar and have some drinks and order some food. They have a lovely cocktail list and sell beers spirits etc. they have happy hour at the bar from 1-2pm and 5-7pm at the pool bar and 5-7pm and 9-11pm at the lobby bar which is half price so well worth taking advantage off as the prices are then very cheap. Prices are as follows during happy hour. Heineken beer £2.20 for large bottle 660ml, cocktails £2.40 and soft drinks around £1.40 plus you have all your spirits etc. wine is a bit pricey not sure exactly how much as we didn't drink any. During your time drinking they will usually deliver little snack and cold flannels to you which is a nice touch. This is in the lobby bar.
Breakfast is served in the big rim talay breakfast and has a very good selection of food. The pool bar offers excellent snacks and evening food at great prices averaging £5-£6 per meal. This includes burgers, wraps and thai food. The rim talay restaurant is a buffet restaurant at night and changes themes every night and the cost varies each night but overall is not overly expensive. The only other restaurant is the well know la gritta restaurant which is Italian. We ate there once for my wife's birthday and had 2 courses each and a couple drinks and it cost about £40-£45 which isn't bad and the setting is amazing overlooking the ocean.
Now to talk about the location of the hotel. So many people say it's to close to patong, there's too many steps, the beach is not a beach etc. so here goes.....
Patong is about 5-10 minute walk down the hill but the hotel is far enough away from the hustle bustle. You overlook patong and at night you will see fireworks without fail which is awesome but you can't here any of the nightlife noise so it's perfect.
There are a few steps around the hotel so if you do struggle with mobility then it might be a problem but overall it didn't bother us too much.
The hotels private beach is small and has a lot of coral rocks around but people were still out snorkelling so it must be deep enough. The beach isn't the best in phuket but it is private and so peaceful and the water is very clear!
The hotel has 2 pools and one is a bit busier and allows kids and the other is really peaceful and perfect for relaxing.
A quick bit about patong. Patong is busy with shops restaurants and bars and has lots of tour companies selling excursions. We booked all our excursions in patong and saved a fortune. As you walk down the hill and along the seafront you come to a 7/11 shop which is like a local spar. We stocked up on soft drinks for the room and outside there is where we booked our excursions. For example our rep wanted £66pp for the phi phi island day tour by speedboat. After a bit of haggling we booked it down the road for £22pp which included transfers from the hotel. The rep said that it would all be filled with Russians and we would be packed in like sardines. This was all NOT true and we had a good day out. We also booked the elephant tour and big Buddha tour and saved around £20pp and also the Simon cabaret show from the local tour company and got VIP seats which the rep said only he could get! So don't believe the rep and go down the road to book.
Overall we couldn't fault the hotel and had an amazing time staying here and is one of the first hotels that we both said we would happily stay in again plus we both were sad when we had to leave. One final point was that I notified the hotel it was my wife's birthday when we were there. They delivered a card, cake and flowers to the room and gave us both a glass of champagne during our meal at la gritta all for free! A lovely little touch. My wife also had a 90 minute massage at the breezes spa and said it was unbelievable!!! Yes it cost £45 but it's still a lot cheaper than the uk.
So there is my first review on a really good hotel that I would definitely return to so if your about to go and stay there you are in great hands!!!!!!

Every single thing about this place is absolutely fabulous! The staff are very helpful and informative, they will be willing to help you any way they can. From my personal experience, I feel that they are very trustworthy and reliable!

FREE Wi fi available throughout the hotel. FREE DVD rentals. Beach bag is provided in the room. Housekeeping is very prompt.

I especially love the private beach area & the beach side beds, private jetty, the room with seaview, and the hotel breakfast buffet spread (everything you can think of eating in the morning : cereals, Thai breakfast, waffles, pancakes, salad, fusion, desserts, several types of bread, etc . ).

Location : Not really a challenge for us. It's a bit up the hill but not far at all, you can walk to Junceylon in 25-35 minutes. We also rented a car so it was pretty convenient for us . The hotel has guest parking available.

You can expect to find massage service, convenient stores, nail salon, restaurants, some bars nearby the hotel.

I feel like this is the perfect place to stay for those who want to have a relaxing stay . May be not for party goers as the area around the hotel is more laid back.

Room Tip: Stay in at least Deluxe room. All deluxe rooms have sea view.

Not too far from the popular Patong beach, yet far enough to get away from all the noise. Internet connection is good with in-room Wifi, TV offers connection via USB, great swimming pools, great view facing the Patong bay. The room is a little small though. Minibar includes a freezer component. Taxi to Patong area costs around 200 Baht, which isn't bad. Breakfast is average though.

Amari has just been renovated and everything is perfect. The staff service and all facilities, pools, rooms etc are superb and the views of Patong bay are breathtaking. Its a little walk to Patong but the exercise is good. The Gritti Italian resto has great views at night and good Italian food. Its fairly expensive but worth every cent.

Room Tip: Chose a room right on the beach for best views

My husband & I stayed at Amari Coral Beach for 9 days...from day one through nine it was a perfect experience.
Gorgeous & comfortable suite with a direct waterfront view perfect for sipping coffee in the mornings on the balcony.
Great restaurants...delicious breakfast buffet! Loved happy hour at the lobby bar was a highlight & the staff couldn't be nicer or more accommodating if they tried.
Poolside massages, two nice pools & good mojitos!
The location was also perfect...a short walk to the beach & craziness of Bangla Rd but it was quiet & peaceful at the hotel. Also centrally located for touring the nearby towns via a short tuk tuk ride or via boat.
Highly recommend this hotel & would stay here again in the future.

Room Tip: We stayed in the 4100 section of rooms...good value for such a scenic view!
