“Tired, out of date and style, 3 star at best”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 August 2013

Pretty much from our first moments at this hotel our experience was unpleasant. To begin with the decor and furnishings of the room are old and far out-dated for the quality of resort you claim to be. The toilet in our room sometimes wouldn't flush and at other times would continue to flush for several minutes. Many times we came into the room with an odour of sewage coming from the drains.

We have had innumerable disappointments with the service from the staff. Our first evening we were treated very rudely by the staff operating the shuttle into town. They treat people boarding the shuttle like school children and lack respect. In the gym the two staff in there who were constantly looming during my workout and suggested that I not using a piece of equipment properly which, while not a typical way to use that piece of equipment was in no way harming or causing damage to it. The fees for using the tennis courts is not mentioned anywhere I can find on your website and is not in keeping, at least in our experience, with a 5 star resort.

Upon check in the staff suggested I contact them on our last day and request a late checkout since we have to leave at 13:00 for the airport, one hour after check out. Today when I made this request I was told it could not be accommodated. I have significant difficulties believing in a hotel this size, particularly on the shoulder season, it is not possible to allow a 1 hour late check out.

In addition to the above housekeeping was notoriously slow, we would often come back to our room in the late afternoon and find it still had not been made. Cleaning carts were constantly left in the hallway outside the rooms and one of the guest (I assume) left a plate and two wine glasses in the bushes which sat there untouched by housekeeping for almost our entire stay.

Since they can’t compete on luxury this hotel is trying to compete with discounted prices but this has led to a significant decrease in the quality of the guests and too many families. We were in an adjoining room with a couple who apparently had a child. We were awoken early every morning by them and constantly heard their child making noise given the poor quality of soundproofing between the rooms.

The resort is truly in a wonderful setting and has the potential to regain its 5 start status but at the moment it really is performing at the 3 star level.

Just returned from spending the weekend at Diamond Cliff. It's a lovely and huge resort - but slightly tired in comparison to the photos on the website.

Our room was huge (a triple), and nicely done, but the bathroom and shower had seen better days. The grounds were well maintained, but more built up than I'd expected, considering it's out of the centre of Patong. The main pool is surrounded by rooms and seemed very family focused, while the Ocean View pool was much more serene. Sunloungers filled up though, so it's worth getting down there and claiming a spot before it gets too late. They were happy to bring more out at the pool by the sea though, and, while the pool is small, there's a fantastic view and more relaxed atmosphere - I highly recommend picking up mangoes and coconut water from the stall on the road just outside!

Staff were friendly, and the free fruit basket was a nice touch. The walk into town is just a bit too far considering the temperatures, but it was easy enough to pick up a tuk-tuk for 200baht.

Beautiful hotel with lush tropical frounds on a hillside, waterfalls everywhere, just outside of the madness of Patong Beach. Close enough to walk, otherwise tuktuks are waiting outside hotel. Free shuttle at set hours, also in the hotel to carry you uphill if you like.
Rooms are big and well appointed, teak floors and furniture give a warm and luxurious feeling. Nice bed, silent airco, tea and coffee facilities, balcony with seaview. Breakfast with Chinese, Japanese (delish!), Korean and Western food, fresh fruit, eggs made to your wishes in beautiful Ocean View Coffeeshop. Fitness room is big and well equipped, perfect temperature. Upon arrival you can go pick out a kilo of fresh tropical fruit in the fruit shop, another wonderful touch.
Staff is very attentive and helpful, they were a great help with travel arrangements to Phi Phi and dealing with another hotel there. Special mention to the wonderful Bao, who went out of his way to make sure I had everything I needed.
And all of this for a price for which you get a budget room in Amsterdam, unbelievable. I cannot recommend this place enough.

With any holiday, to me the hotel makes it or breaks it. I am over the moon with this resort. Upon arrival we were warmly greeted, and went through the formalities of checking in. Every hotel I have checked in, all do ask for your visa card, and take an imprint of it. I can understand this, as I am sure many in the passed sneaked out without paying. I always pay my room in full well in advance, and it works that we tend to get upgrades. This resort was no exception and the room we got was in the Grand wing was so massive, at least 2 times the size of an ordinary room, and views to the see the beach from the generous porch.
They provide an in-house shuttle, which will drive you to your room, or wherever you want to go.
They even provide a shuttle bus to old Phuket town once a day, and in the evening you have a choice of 3 shuttle times to go to Bangla rd. All these are free.
Breakfast buffet was great, at the coffee shop but I don't recommend eating here at night, as the service was dismal.
Room service was great, but the ultimate, and you must have dinner at the Diamond Hut, or Korean hut, which is across the street, and owned by the diamond cliff. Imagine a pool on your left the sea on your right, and nothing in between, just your table. Top this of with live romantic music (your can ask for your favourite love song) and a meal that is tops. You can even choose from live seafood, which is charged by the gram. A must visit restaurant.
What I found surprising is that the meals here are the same price as outside. First time I have come across a hotel that is competitive in foods and drinks.

Room Tip: pay in full well in advance, and ask for a room in the grand wing, and who knows you may just get a...

We have just returned from staying at Diamond Cliff as a Family holiday. Our first impression was one of confusion when we were requested to pay our bill in full on checking in, which is a bit full in your face when you are tired & not fully sure on why this cant be done at least the next day considering we are booked in for over a week. After requesting this manager did agree and all was well, but not the greeting you expect when you first arrive. I won't be repetitive on other postings such as steep hills .. Believe me this isn't a problem if you are able bodied & if you aren't the shuttle bus is always there within 5 mins. We loved having the choice of been able to walk to restaurants, bars, shops all within 10 mins. We had breakfast several times at the Diamond & it was very good, much better than the Novotel next door which we went twice using our Accor Card. One thing which needs addressing is the Restaurants in the evening we ate once & it was soulless, with no background music & staff who looked like bored by the lack of patrons. The restaurant needs to be competitive priced with local restaurants, this in to make people stay & eat . We stayed in the Diamond suites & thought the rooms are great for size & cleanliness ( a big thank you to the housekeeping staff excellent) .Yes this Resort is older than some but I believe it's qualities are attention to detail which many of its staff try very hard to please. We visited the Merlin Beach Resort & its a beautiful Resort but its achilles heel was its too crowded & you can't walk to Patong other than paying 500-600 return trip every-time you go out when you want. We used the hotel shuttle bus to Paradise beach & I recommend this to anyone staying just a brilliant place to visit. So all in all we would stay at the Diamond Cliff again thank you

Room Tip: We had a room in the Grand wing ,great views & nice to sit on balcony in the evening

Everyone has an opinion on where they stay and hence that's why trip adviser comes in handy and my partner and I find it a useful tool when booking our holiday. I find the comment of an earlier couple of guests quite surprising. We have just had eight nights at Diamond Cliff and I feel humble to have stayed at such a beautiful resort. We were met promptly at the airport and driven to the Resort. Its about a 40 minute drive. A lovely young educated man took us through the details. and then to our room. The room was gorgeous. Nothing like we had expected. It was evening so we didn't get a clear view of outside until next morning.
The view from our room next morning was exquisite.
Next day all new arrivals get a short personal briefing. Please keep the appointment as his advise (Noy was our representatives name) is very useful. All new arrivals get a voucher too for a kilo of fruit, from their farm shop. We found a kilo is a lot of fruit!!!

We didn't have to walk anywhere if we didn't want to. A shuttle cart was available right from where our room was to the lobby and we were always asked did we want a taxi if we were heading out. Most of the time we walked as the town is only minutes away. The first night we walked the wrong way. Its only when we stopped to talked to a couple of young lasses from Australia who said we were walking on the wrong road. We found our way round and if you walk out of the complex, turn left. Five minutes down the road, bear right onto a road which means you walk along the beach. Its a beautiful walk and cooling with the sea breeze.
The guys in the shuttle carts were there whenever we needed them. One night we came home at 2am, and they made sure someone was available to take us to the top to our room.
Walking up the hill if you don't wish to use one of the shuttle carts is blooming hard on the legs, so use them unless you are super fit. But in the heat we had, we didn't brave it.

The place has everything you need. We had our choice of pools, which we would spend many an hour relaxing and sun-bathing. One night it was around 7pm, before we left, but there was no pressure to leave. Towels are available to borrow if you want to spend a day on the beach.
The maid cleaned our room to a high standard each day, leaving us chocolates and a well equipped bathroom with toiletries. Each day we would find she made us animals out of the face clothes. Simple touches like that made us feel special.
We ate in the complex twice and that was a lunch time snack, which was beautifully prepared and fresh.
We didn't have breakfast at Diamond but speaking with other Guests, they said it was very nice.
There is a free shuttle bus from Diamond that leaves for Phuket town on the hour in the evenings, and booking in advance is advisable, as they will wait for you if you are a few minutes late, if your name is on the list.
If you call down to reception for anything, someone is there within minutes.
The service we found was top class and we have stayed in many places in our time to know what good service is.
Beware of crossing the roads as Zebra crossings mean nothing. Diamond have security who are there to see you across.

You are so close to everything if you stay here.
A taxi to town from Diamond should be no more than 200 baht.
Diamond do a free daily trip from 11am to Paradise Beach. You must go. Its a full day just chilling on the beach. There are places to eat and get a drink, and it was one of the most relaxing days, which cost nothing, only our food and drinks when we got there. We were picked up at 4pm, and brought back to Diamond.

Try and get your laundry done before you leave as its washed, ironed and packed to perfection.

Everone heads for a place called Bangla Road. .It is very popular and full of life and an eye opener. From Lady Boys to Massage girls to lots of other entertainment. You can't go wrong. The thing I would say is. You don't have to be there if you don't like that sort of thing. Its not in your face all over Phuket.

Lots of places you pass try and stop you, to eat at their Restaurant but a polite "no" is enough for them, or we would say we have just eaten.
There are a lot of places far quieter, leading off Bangla Road.
We had Thai, Indian, Chinese and English food while we were there. The food is cooked to perfection and fish plays a big part in the restaurants.
Be patient for your food as everything is cooked as its ordered.
If you decide on a having clothes made for you- believe me you will be surprised at the quality. Diamond have a fantastic tailors right across the lobby. Barter with them if you are not happy with the price as they will easily accommodate your request, until, you both agree on a price.

You will at some point get approached by Timeshare people, outside of the resort. We went to one of the meetings. All I can say is be very strict and say no, if you don't want to. However if you attend a meeting you do get a free meal out of them and I think everyone gets a free holiday out of it.

We met a lot of different people. Mostly Australians, as we could relate to them being English speaking and some of their accommodation meant they were staying so far out of the area, that's why we feel blessed that we booked Diamond Cliff.
If we go back to Phuket, I would not hesitate to stay there again and I would highly recommend this lovely place to anyone checking on Trip Adviser.

I loved the Thai people. They always have a smile on their faces. Nothing is too much trouble for them
We hope this will help anyone looking to book a break in Phuket.
