I read maybe 50 reviews before I decided to book this hotel and after spending 12 nights at this hotel I am happy to say all of the reviews are very accurate. We stayed in the busakorn section, in the busakorn studio rooms (we booked 2 rooms, interconnecting for our 2 children 12 and under), with breakfast. Firstly check in was efficient (I had emailed several times to finalise details and they were across these when we arrived). Their english was good and we were in our room within 10 minutes. We are IHG members and so received good room rates (due to our level of membership we were also upgraded) and 15% off all dining and laundry. It is free to join, so do so as it is worth it. The rooms are really big, clean and plenty of room to spread out. They are in the traditional thai style which we prefer over a modern style (which makes you feel you could be anywhere in the world). The beds are worth mentioning as they are superb - I don't know if it's the linen or the firmness of the mattress, but each of us commented on how fantastic the beds were (I'm pretty sure it was the quality of the linen). The linen gets changed every 2nd day unless you ask the maid to do it more often. You receive 3 bottles of water per room per day which is plenty to clean teeth and also have enough to drink. The shower is fabulous, with a bench seat which we found useful for our daughter who is in a wheelchair (the whole resort is incredibly wheelchair friendly except for one section at the busakorn pool but we could get around it - in fact we brought it to the attention of the General Manager (Bart) and he was keen to hear how this could be improved). There is also a fridge you can stock yourself. We watched a DVD in the room once or twice which was convenient as well. At the end of the trip we tipped the maid to thank her for looking after our room and us.

We had breakfast each morning at the Charm Thai buffet which is mind-blowing with all the choice but in the end we really stuck to cereal and toast. It's quite expensive if you only want tea, toast and cereal so I'm not sure we would pre-book breakfast again (for 2 adults I think it was about $30-35 AUD). My daughter who was under 12 ate free but my son who was 12 yo we had to pay $17 AUD, so overall breakfast was around $50 AUD for a family of 4 which was pricey for Thailand. They had an automatic coffee machine which looked pretty good if you are a coffee lover. The service was impeccable.

We ate dinner in the Charm Thai restaurant, again service was very very good and food adequate enough. It rained a lot, so having on-site restaurants was really helpful. We ate lunch around the pool a few times - was good and also in The Bar which was equally good. About $50 AUD for a family of 4. Cocktails are about $8AUD but really good. The first week there was no happy hour, but in the 2nd week they did which was 50% off drinks from 3-5pm. One night we ordered at 5.02pm and they would not honour the 50% off - seemed a bit petty as we had been regular customers for the previous 10 days - in the end they agreed, but not for about 15mins - we couldn't quite understand what changed their mind in the end. We had no problem getting lounge chairs around the busakorn pool, in fact we felt we had the pool to ourselves a lot of the time - it just seemed so quiet? That pool is a true oasis - one of the best designs I've seen - good amount of shade, size perfect and no excessively deep sections - an adult could walk the entire pool with no need to tread water. Large enough to do laps if you are a keen to exercise. We also ate at Terrazzo which was disappointing - only because Patong is full of the most amazing Italian restaurants (Roma and La Cucina are our favourites), so in comparison it is not up there. Service was very good though.

The busakorn wing is at the back of the hotel, so you have to walk through the rest of the hotel to get to the beach and the front section of patong beach. McDonalds, Starbucks, Burger King are a 5 min walk to the right - the location of this hotel is excellent. If you turn left out of the hotel and then an immediate left again there is an outstanding jewellery shop called P&C Jewellery (there is a spectacle shop next door on the corner). It has diamond, white and yellow gold jewelry at really good prices - they also do a lot of repairs - was always full of tourists. They can design any piece of jewellery you show them.

We tended to go out the busakorn entrance at the back of resort to eat, shop and get massages (it was a closer exit - especially with all the rain we got). There is a massage shop called Bali Hai about 20 metres after you turn left out of the hotel (on the same side) which did great massages for about $10-$12 AUD. Their facials were average so don't bother wth those, (I actually had one in the Tea Tree Spa at the Holiday Inn which was ok - $55AUD for the most basic one). In saying that, there are massage places EVERYWHERE. It had been 4-5 years since our last visit to Patong and what I noticed is how many more clothes shops there are (all selling the same patong type rip-off beachwear) and much less handbag, sunglasses and jewellery shops. They have all been replaced by massage places! Hair braiding has also gone up in price? On the streets it was 50THB PER BRAID............better to go to the ladies on the beach who were doing a full head for 900THB if you have thick hair and need a lot of braids. Finding a place that does shellac nails was hard too - in the end I found Simply Nails in Jungceylon Mall who were better than the nail technicians in Australia......same price as Australia too. I had a really cool Shellac design done for about $40 AUD but it took her 1.5 hours - they do heaps of nail art as well.

We went to a cocktail night for IHG members in the busakorn section and met a few of the staff - Sham (Food and Beverage Manager) and Bart (General Manager). They were genuinely keen to chat and we got to understand what their lives were like in the hotel industry which I found fascinating. My family and I ended up quite sick with gastro over our 12 day holiday which did put a dampener on it (as did the incessant rain but hey we chose to go in rainy season) - we have never experienced anything like it - we had the doctor to our room 2 nights ($250 AUD each time inc. medication), with injections to stop the vomiting. The hotel was very concerned for us - checking in with us and providing flowers to show they were aware we were unwell. They provided plain rice free of charge a few times as we were getting better. Sham in particular called to try to understand how we may have got the gastro - but we ate inside the hotel and outside, so very difficult to pinpoint. Personally I wonder if it is a consequence of going in rainy season, with so much rain (maybe washing dirt, bacteria etc into the pool), low tourist numbers (so food turnover outside the hotel may not be as ideal) as we meet other guests with gastro also. Interestingly the pool never smelt of chlorine so not sure how they kept bacteria levels in check; we did see the pool water being filtered, but chlorine would be important as well I would think.........one point worth noting though is the hotel water that they use to cook, launder and make ice with is all filtered which was comforting to hear.

In summary, this hotel is outstanding - it truely is an oasis in the chaos and good value for money. The staff from the General Manager down, care about the business you are giving their hotel, and they are looking for your repeat business which sets the tone for how they treat you when you are there - they want you back and they want to impress you to try to achieve that. The competition in Patong Hotels is strong, and this hotel will go above and beyond to ensure they get your patronage. Couldn't be happier with our choice of hotel but wish we had seen more sun :)

Room tip: Check out the busakorn wing - quite a step up

Dear Davolitribe,
Thank you very much for your extensive review on your experience at the Holiday Inn Resort Phuket. Fantastic to know that you really enjoyed: check in, the room, the linen, the shower, breakfast, dinner at Charm Thai, lunch around the pool, cocktails, the shade at the pool, the shops (many!) & restaurants around the hotel etc etc... Sorry to know that the fun was dampened when you got a bit sick, but nice to know that our team handled it well. Looking forward to welcome you soon again to Phuket and to the Holiday Inn Resort.
Kindest regards,

We stayed there for 8 days. We really enjoyed our stay ,very nice pools and the buffet breakfast was good but if you will dine there everyday not advisable because the menu were all the same..Walking distance to Bangla road where my hubby and daughter having a good time bar hopping. Walking distance to Jungceylon mall. My only advise to travellers dont ever booked with the hotel all attractions or adventures quite expensive compare to the one selling outside.Over all nice place to stay with.

Room tip: Just stayed on the 2nd floor for me it's very good. Can not compare other rooms because I haven't seen it.My first time in the hotel.

Dear Farah Marie Z,
Thank you very much for your kind comments and for giving us a 5 star rating. Glad you enjoyed your stay with us. True that the tours booked at the hotel tend to be a bit more expensive then the ones selling outside: the reason is that our tours are fully insured which is not always the case when buying elsewhere..... Looking forward to welcome you back soon at the Holiday Inn Resort Phuket!

The superior rooms are too good. They face beach and are above pool. Excellent sit out/balcony with ample sofas/divans, table, chairs and windy. Room had a nice bath tub and shower, kids enjoyed bubble bathes. Nice large TV, mini bar, coffee/tea and bottled drinking water was provided.

It had a grand gala & huge breakfast buffet! They even provided a extra complimentary welcome drink at the beach facing restaurant. Espresso & cappuccino was good. They provided fruits at our room.

Hotel is just at patang beach and other end leads to busy activity/shopping Thanon Ratuthit Songroipi Road. Plenty of restaurants around the hotel.

Has a very good kids activity room with many XBOX consoles and they had kids pools with different activities and floats.

Large swimming pools for family activity on either ends of hotel. Clean blue Pool towels were provided and hotel had bath robes!

Free Wifi was fast and good, they also had a business centre with browsing computers/PC.

Our family loved the stay at this hotel and you would not be disappointed!

Room tip: Small family with young kids can stay in superior room facing Patong beach, is windy

Having again stopped over in Thailand following a business trip on the way back to Australia,we opted for the Holiday Inn Resort in Patong over our our last two stays at the Bahn Thai.
We stayed here several years back and again it was okay.
My business colleague and I wanted a bit of downtime away from the many families that stay here so we booked 2 private villa's away from the maddening crowd.
Upon arrival, check inn was fluent and as usual courteous in the always lovely Thai manner. We went to our rooms and they were very hot as they have not had a dummy key entered in the slide in holder to turn on the power. This is a constant frustration in hot climates.... If they know your arriving and you have given an approximate time then cool it down an hour before your are scheduled to arrive.
After cooling the room down we showered and and met at the foyer and went out for a few drinks and food....
The place is generally good, but showing it's age. Many things need repairing, sealing, etc, but alas you look over those things. Great pool areas for families and couples, with those of you who want a little more privacy and luxury encouraged to book a private villa room with swim up balcony as me and my friend did.
Nice touches like fresh fruit daily and free mini bar daily, but 2 beers for free, no wine or spirits is hardly a free mini bar ??
Drinks are expensive. $220 Baht for cocktails which equates to about $8.50AUD, not expensive in Australia, but that is for Thailand, but no problem we spent plenty regardless.
We did not eat in the restaurants this trip, but SAMS steak house was as per past visits for guests and the general public an amazing up market steak house for a gathering or intimate dinner, and I hope it hasn't changed, so if you get the chance, book it. Steaks from Australia and service worthy of our top restaurants (or it was 3 years back).
The buffet breakfast is huge, and again expensive for those who aren't huge eaters. If you are then you will be happy. No option to just choose a toasted sandwich and coffee.... It's a full buffet or nothing, so if you go..... Be hungry to get true value.
The hotel is nicely placed to be close enough to Bangle road, yet also far enough away to relax in peace.
The beach is directly across the road and hiring of scooters is also directly opposite.
Massages on the beach front are over priced and not as good as the back streets.
In summary this is a price friendly and family friendly for guests looking for value, and staying in town with nice layout of pools for adults and kids to relax.
Those wanting intimacy or privacy should pay the extra and get a ground floor villa room with swim up balcony.

The other thing this hotel needs to do is have an air conditioned check in/check out room for guests to stay cool while waiting to check in and out as the reception is not air conditioned is extremely hot, yet the staff seem not to notice the guests sweating and waving their hands like a fan to cool themselves !!!!

Room tip: Pre book breakfast, haggle, book trips on the street not the hotel, be nice to your mum !
