We stayed here for 7 nights for my hubby's 50th birthday. There were 4 rooms booked in total. 2 were pool access rooms which I would highly recommend, the beds are the most comfortable I've ever slept on and yes you do have free wifi access. The others were on the 2nd and 3rd floors. The room on the second floor wasn't as undated as the others which was a little disappointing but the room on the 3rd floor which over looked the kiddies pool was nice and updated. Housekeeping was a little slack with the cleaning and forgot to refill the tea n coffee. The location didn't bother us as we hired scooters during our stay and caught a tuk tuk into town at night. The rides home in the tuk tuk were a laugh and well worth the 300 bht. The hotel was lovely and peaceful during our stay and a must during your stay is to have a swim with the baby elephant Rai Rai which is just up the hill on the left hand side on the way bacK into town. An experience I certainly will not forget. Enjoyed our stay while here.

Room Tip: Pool access all the way.

we recently stayed in this resort to celebrate my 50th birthday. There was 19 of us, from 9 year olds to me! It was fabulous, far enough away from the craziness of Patong to rest, but close enough that it wasn't a chore to get there. The free shuttle bus was great for getting into Patong, and tuk tuks were always available to get back. It was a great holiday and Merlin Beach Resort added to that.

We travelled with a group of 8 (4 couples), with the other 6 staying in Patong. It is in some ways so good to be out of Patong, but without a private beach to swim in - one would be forgiven for getting cabin fever at Merlin Beach. We also didn't like only having free wifi in the lobby, meaning any time we wanted to get in touch with our friends, we had to leave our room and go to the lobby. We found the room, the pools, the staff and the cocktails to be all fantastic. We spent most of our time reading and sipping cocktails in and around the pool. It was very relaxing. I liked the slower pace of the resort, compared with Patong - there was no hassling or anything, it was great. We tried a few of the restaurants and cafes and were happy. Breakfast especially is fantastic, glad it was included - range was excellent and really helped fill us up. Also recommend making the trip up the hill to Little Tiger, great authentic and cheap Thai food.

We stayed here for the fourth time in April. 2009, 2011, 2013, 2014. This resort is clearly a favourite of ours however I am posting this hoping management will take the feedback on board.

We have noticed a slight decline over the years in the friendliness of staff. I really noticed it last year and it was confirmed this year after staying elsewhere in bangtao beach. The contrast was very obvious. So I wasn't imagining it.

I do feel there is a lack of management of staff and some staff just seem like they don't want to be there. In 2009 every staff member had a smile and spoke to you.

As another traveller commented there are areas of the resort now that need a deep clean but in doesn't impinge on your stay - you'll still have a wonderful time. It just impacts on the overall look of the resort which has lovely rooms (every time we've been they have been upgrading a block), amazing pools, cheap massages on the beach and our kids love the shuttle bus and tuk tuk rides in and out of patong. It's only a 10min trip and we find it all adds to the experience.

Overall this is a wonderful resort, the pools just need a deep clean in terms of the grout and tile replacement in spots, a deep clean everywhere and the bhukit coffee shop is in need of a refurb.

Picky stuff really, but after seeing the resorts at bang tao beach, if merlin is going to stay up with the likes of that standard then this sort of stuff would need to be addressed, particularly the friendliness of staff, mainly reception staff.

It's a fantastic resort, I do highly recommend it, please feel free to email me. We have stayed their quite a few times! I'm a fussy traveller so wouldn't stay here if it wasn't a four star resort - just room for improvement.

Room Tip: In April, if you like quiet, stay away from rooms facing pool 2 as there is entertainment on every n...

Thanks for a great stay! The room was very spacious, any issues we had were dealt with promptly (one of our bathroom lights was not working properly). The food at the breakfast buffet was delicious and there was a lot of variety. The hotel staff very friendly, lovely and helpful. ATM facility at the resort was very helpful.

We stayed at the Merlin Beach Resort in April 2014. We had been to Thailand twice before, on the last occasion we stayed at Movenpick Karon Beach, and really loved it. We booked the Merlin as it was the same price as Movenpick and looked great on the internet. Upon arrival - nowhere near as nice as Movenpick, in general the resort needs a good makeover. All the decking around the main pool is rotting and there were loose planks of wood and nails sticking out. Our room was a bit dated and the amenities nowhere near Movenpick's standard. We found the staff not as friendly as Movenpick, some were, but at Movenpick all staff went out of their way to be nice. The food at the resort was also not as good, and their evening buffet was down right awful. The resort has no shops within walking distance so you are forced to buy everything including over priced water from the resort or go into Patong. Would not stay there again. We were considering holding our wedding there next year, so glad I saw this place first hand before making a booking!

Generally, we found the Resort to be of a good to very good standard … the rooms, the complex, the pools & housekeeping were all very good. However, we all agreed that we didn’t think the service was up to standard.
We had many, many meals at the resort but found that there was not enough variety.
On the last day, we experienced a number of problems which, in my opinion, were not handled in a satisfactory manner.
On that day, being 23/3/14, there was a power blackout from 10:30am to at least 6:30pm. I understand that this was not the fault of the resort, but:
To be charged 3000 Baht for a late checkout (in one room only) with no power or airconditioning is outrageous
To be charged 250 Baht for an extra day of wireless internet, where there was no internet available, is also unacceptable
We had a 9 month old baby and we requested a bottle of water for her on that day. To be charged for that drink, in view of the fact that there was no airconditioning, was astounding, &.
when our airport transfer driver was late, we asked reception to make a phonecall to check on his whereabouts, and we were told that would cost 22 Baht per minute. Begrudgingly, we offered to pay that (with coins) & were told that coins was not acceptable!
We had spent about 200,000 THB at the resort that week & we couldn’t get a complimentary bottle of water or a phone call! Sometimes it’s the little things that make all the difference. On that sour note we left your resort very disgruntled, unlikely to ever contemplate returning or recommending it.
I wrote to management on 25/3 voicing my complaints & they haven't bothered to respond.
We previously stayed at the Le Meridien & found it to be far, far superior!
