Fantastic!!!!!!! First impression was set by the staff who greet you with a smile and most importantly a cold drink even before we check in. Its very clean and well presented. The rooms are spacious the pools are well kept. We didn't have any kids with us but other guests did and the resort catered for all the kids. If possible I would recommend getting the pool room, so each morning you wake up you can step straight into the pool.

Just stayed at Merlin Beach for 2 weeks. This property is amazing.Pools everywhere! You can even swim through one of the buildings between two of the pools. It is located only 5 minutes by cab to Patong for shopping/ Jungceylon centre/Restaraunts. The service and staff are welcoming and helpful. The only hard decision was where to relax... in the quiet pool with the waterfalls, around the main pool,on the beautiful lawns or on the private beach behind the hotel. If you are really energetic you can cross the road in front of the hotel to walk 150 metres to another beautiful beach and relax in true Thai fashion.
We stayed in 2 interconnecting deluxe rooms which are on the fourth floor looking out to the Ocean over the pool (Worth the extra cost!)
Only ok bit was the food..the setting, tableware, service etc. was great but the food could be better for this glorious hotel. However on the left of the private beach up the stairs was the best Thai restaraunt called Little Tiger(Not part of the hotel). We consider ourselves foodies and ate in delicious restaraunts in Patong but this had the best Thai after Charm Thai @ Holiday Inn( yellow curry crab, home made satay prawns, green curry chicken etc. ). We only ate breakfast at the hotel (which was included in our package). The kids loved the burgers and spaghetti around the pool (and they are pretty fussy).
This beach also has massage, cheap laundry, hair braiding etc but the people do not hound you.
We would have no hesitation to go back and hope to soon. Book early ,it is very popular.

THIS HOTEL HAD THE BEST STAFF WE HAVE EXPERIENCED from the front desk to the restaurant staff, to the cleaning staff. The room was immaculately clean and serviced every day.
EXCELLENT specialty restaurants including Italian, seafood, Thai.10 minutes fron Patong beach, it offered perfect relaxation, and the "get away from it all"space that we wanted, yet was a shrt free bus ride away from all the activities in Patong beach. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

This hotel is far away from the stressfull areas in Phuket. This is in the middle of nowhere, I`d say.
But once you manage to get there, you don´t want to go elswhere, if you appreciate peace on your holidays.
Do not go there if clubbing, pubs and nightlife is what you want around the corner on your stay in Thailand.

If you are just as much frustrated as I am, watching people getting drunk all over, watching prostitutes walking on the streets, pedofilians with young boys or girls, etc, do come to this place and you don´t have to look at it every night. At least you can protect your own children from watching it somehow by staying in this quiet hotel and it´s areas in evenings.

Hotel is quite big, with reasonable sized rooms. Roomcleaning every day.
Pillows are totally too hard, like having a block of wood under your head. Take your own pillow with you, if you have problems with your neck.
Freezer in the rooms, which is good for your on water, juices, chocolates etc. to keep cold.
We had groundfloor room, so we had wonderful fiew over the pool area and the sea behind it. Be careful with the bats if walking in the dark!

We chose to have halfboard. It was nothint too impressive. On our 2nd week we went out to eat few times, even we had payed for dinners for two weeks.
Breakfast is really good. Lots of things to eat. We loved fresh fruit, croissants, omelettes.

For shoping we chose to take taxi few times a week to take us to Carrefour for snacks, bottled water, soft drinks and so on. Our children, aged 4 and 12, liked to do "their shopping" for toys, chocolates, chips etc. in Carrefour. (Money they have had for Christmas- and birthdaypresents).

Staff at the reception area gave us all information and help in everything we ever needed, with smiling faces.

Hotel has it´s own beach, but it is not very good for swimming. Full of rocks.
You can take the longtail boat, if you wish to go the sea.
Sun was shining bright every day, and that was the only thing we were really after, when planed to go Thailand. More touristic places compared this hotel, are ruined ages ago in most of the places.
Do go to the beach, even it is full of rocks. In stead of swimming, take manicures, pedicures, massages. I had some treat almost everyday - with 2-5 euros.

To celebrate our 20th anniversary I organised a 10 day holiday in Thailand. We had 2 great days in Bangkok and then booked another hotel pay for 4 and stay 8. We left after the paid 4 days and went to the Merlin Beach resort. We had stayed at this resort in the September before the Tsunami. The hotel was superb as was the staff. Returning 2 years later we were welcomed back as if we were family. The staff couldn't do enough for us. The food and service was excellent and the facilities were first rate. The travel into Patong is just part of the adventure of Phuket and is a good opportunity to relax before a big night out, and the shuttle service is a great opportunity to meet other guests. I wouldn't stay anywhere else.

ok i have read all the reviews on this hotel and and i am still left scratching my head as to what went wrong.it all started when we checked in ,they wanted to charge us for an extra bed. they finally realized after one hour of deliberation that we were correct. next we met the pool bar staff, well that was an enlightening experience. the rudest people we have ever met.i will not go into detail suffice to say some fellow aussies we had never met before backed us up in the predicament we were in.let me just say that these people are very selective as to what they want to understand and when. polite and curtious?????we wre a group of friends with small children as well as teenagers and we were treated very poorly. till the day we left we never left out our pleases and thankyous no matter how frustrating the experience was.never ever was the word sorry a part of their vocab. the manager wanted to opologize with free drinks which we politely declined . even she had missed the point. they have the best pool but im afraid thats about it.!!! next time ill stay in patong.

My friend and I stayed her from late December to early January over the new year period and the Hotel was lovely. The staff greeted us with a complimentary tropical fruit drink and a traditional Thai cool towel which is exactly what we needed as it was very hot and it was heaven.

The hotel was very large, spotless, the service was fantastic and the rooms very beautiful. We were given a free upgrade from superior to grand deluxe which was wonderful. The room was large and had a view of the two resort pools.

Breakfast was fantastic with so much variety. From traditional eggs, cereals, pancakes, danishes/cakes to Asian styled stir frys, soups and noodes. Not to mention the lavish tropical fruits. Breakfast was the finest display possible.

The staff were always friendly and kind, and always eager to help.

The new years gala which was included in the cost of staying for NYE was a fantastic night. There was such a huge selection in the buffet and the display of decorations, and the "pirate ship" was fantastic. However, FYI alcohol was not included in the cost and they charged it to you room.

The downsides to this hotel: the market and location. If you are young travellers, stay away if you want to party. This is a resort and is FAR AWAY from Patong. Yes it is only 10 minutes by taxi or tuk tuk, but my friend and I wasted 250 baht each way getting to Patong and back each day. The hotel does provide a free shuttle bus, but the times are quite inconvenient. 10am, 11am, 3pm, 9pm or something very similar. And the returning buses are in the Patong Merlin Hotel (do not get these confused - when booking my evil travel agent gave me the impression that this is where we were staying. The Patong Merlin is RIGHT in the centre of Patong and younger travelers are more suited to go there) which is at the back of the main road of Patong - so you have to walk through the entire hotel to get to the shuttle bus.

The resort is beautiful, very beautiful but it is a family resort. The vast majority of people staying here when I was there were families, and even couples were seldom found here. So if you are after a family holiday away from the husstle and busstle of Patong, this place is for you.

The resort does have a private beach, which is stunning at high tide with its crystal clear waters and white sand. However, at low tide, the reason why it is not suitable for swimming comes to light. There is dead coral everywhere and it is impossible to swim here. So the beach is beautiful, but you can really only sunbake on it.

There are four massage places on this beach, all charging 250 BHT an hour, but some are better than others. I personally do not recommend the upstairs massage place on the far right side. The lady was terribly unskilled, did not use massage oil until I had to ask her, and did not ask me to wash my feet at the start of the massage. Thus I felt dirty, and she was not inclined to do a decent job on my feet. However, I did try the massage place on the "ground leve" (not upstairs) on the far left of the beach, and that lady was tiny but mighty. They have you wash your feet, and when finished present you with a piece of pineapple and a bottle of water. Alternatively, you could go to the day spa at the hotel, but the Thai massage was 800 BHT for an hour.

Overall this resort was wonderful the service was outstanding, the breakfast was delicious, and the beach quite beautiful. However, the location was terrible, and the taxi/tuk tuk into Patong was such a waste of money. Next time I will stay in the heart of Patong.

P.S if you are considering to catch a motor cycle/scooter into or from Patong, BE VERY CAREFUL!!!! I received a second or third degree burn from the exhaust of the bike on my first night in Patong. PLEASE BE CAREFUL.

I wouldn't recommend this hotel for my friends personally due to the location, but for families I definitely would.
