Patong Merlin Hotel

As a travel agent this property is my preferred choice of hotel in Patong Beach and this was also my third stay, I have stayed at other properties but this gets my attention mostly due to its location at the south end of Patong Beach. I can walk out the rear of the property and there are money exchangers, chemists, markets and Circle K shops for supplies. 100m up the road is Hard Rock Café and then across the road from there is the night markets with a plethora of gazebo mini bars for the adventurous who wants to meet the locals.

Out beach side of the property in Patong Beach itself across the road (similar to Kuta Beach) …I am not a fan of swimming Patong Beach, if you ever get up early enough in the morning on low tide you will also agree. This takes me back to the Resort, several swimming pools and all very large and there is never an effort trying to find a cabana to soak up the sun and by the deluxe area you have the swim up pool bar which is a must in my eyes for any Asian resort.

I always grab the Superior Pool View rooms, great size balcony and the room are a generous size too… if you can upgrade yourself to the Deluxe Pool View do this as the room are more modern and a little quieter however you need a pack lunch to get to them, there are also Pool Access rooms in this same wing.

Breakfast is good with a large variety of foods from local to Western, dinners are themed most nights but they still also have Al la carte… not many guests seem to dine at their hotel like most other properties due to the amount of options on Patong Beach. Bangalore Road is a 15 minute walk from the hotel if you want to see all the crazies… get yourself to the Tiger Bar Phuket for more locals. On the western side of Thanon Ratuthit Road in the middle of Patong Beach there is a shopping mall that would take a day to explore, if you’re not into haggling this is the best place to shop for quality goods… check out Burger King here, I have had the best Whopper here anywhere in the world.

Overall I would recommend this resort to anyone, it prices well! Staying from 01APR through to 30OCT room rates are generally spay 1 stay 2 (e.g. stay 12 pay 6) but this is the norm for most properties during the low season, travelling outside these dates will see the costing rise significantly due winter in Europe and the flood the Thai market especially the Russians. If you are a family of 4/5 then you will need 2 rooms and I have never had an issue with requests for interconnecting/adjoining rooms.

Room Tip: Grab a Superior Pool View room opposed to the straight Superior.

This was our first time to Thailand and we were very impressed with this hotel. The staff are very welcoming, helpful and organised (and speak excellent english). The breakfast was good although the egg station is hidden at the back and you will thank yourself if you find it. It backs onto the beach so you have access to the beach strip and and the main strip. Pools are good rooms are perfect, nice size and comfy bed. If you arrive at night time like we did don'y be discuraged by the Hard Rock Cafe's loud band playing you cannot hear it in the hotel. TIP: don't lose your room key, they provide only one and charge 300 Baht for a replacement

Room Tip: I requested a quite room through agoda but it ws far away from reception and had no view, a lot of p...

As first time traveler's to Thailand and the first international holiday for the kids, we weren't sure what to expect. We found a number of friends had stayed at this hotel and all had given good reports. Arriving early we knew we would have to wait several hours before our two adjoining rooms were ready but the staff assured us they would do their best to have our rooms ready as soon as possible. We were supplied cool facecloths and welcoming drinks and information for our stay (10 nights) and were shown to our rooms shortly afterward and well ahead of check-in time. The cleanliness was excellent and we were surprised at how quiet and tranquil it seemed when we were so close to the chaos and hubbub of Patong Beach.
The rooms were the superior pool view rooms and were well appointed. My wife and I had the king sized bed and kids room had 2 singles. The bathrooms are a little small but functional. The view from the balconies was beautiful. We were on the 3rd floor of building 4 and found it to be a good position, although the wireless internet access in this location was poor and often inaccessible.
The staff were all very friendly and helpful, well all but the old pool towel monitor. He looked like someone stole his puppy. His English was on par with his ability to act cheerful.
Room service is fast and pretty tasty. We spent a lot of time in the pool with the swim-up bar and also ordered lunch there several times.
The gym is OK and there is a ping pong table if you prefer that to the ping pong on Bang-la road. There is also a full sized snooker table above the internet lounge near the lobby.
The laundry service is bit expensive (even for Thailand) but just outside the hotel you will pay about 50 baht per kilo if you prefer the cheaper option. There are heaps of money exchange stations everywhere, just shop around for the better rate.
Breakfast was terrific with plenty of variety and eggs cooked before you to your liking. The restaurants are good although not as cheap as you will get outside the hotel. We were very pleased with our stay and would highly recommend the Patong Merlin to families and couples of any age.

Room Tip: Higher level rooms are quieter and have excellent views. If you don't have kids you might like t...

We stayed in July for 14 nights in the Pool Access rooms; amazing! Loved every day there and we're going back to Patong again this year!

The rooms were immaculate and the staff all extremely welcoming and helpful!

Pools were crystal clean and well looked after as were all of the hotel grounds.

We had the buffet breakfast each morning, both western and eastern and it was all fantastic; never had a bad meal!

The location is great, the hotel backs onto Patong beach were you can get endless massages, food and drinks!

Looking forward to being back there this year!

We stayed for 9 nights from 24th feb in a deluxe pool view room in the new wing, however when we got there we upgraded to a pool access room. Hotel is in a good location and opposite the beach, rooms were good, but I would recommend staying in the new wing which had been renovated as the hotel is looking tired and old in some parts. Breakfast was adequate enough, I found the staff to be helpful. There is no free wifi at this hotel however there are a lot of restaurants that offer this, so it wasn't too much of a problem. We would stay again but only if we could get a pool access room.

As a family, we found the Patong Merlin catered to all our needs. It is close to the beach, shops, restaurants & bars & there is a free shuttle bus to their other hotel, Phuket Merlin, daily. There are 3 large always clean pools and numerous good restaurants on site. There is also a lovely spa retreat, small gym & games room. The restaurants, spa & wi fi are a little expensive but probably comparable to prices charged at other hotels. There is a big selection of food at breakfast which is usually included with the price of the room. I stayed at this hotel 21 years ago & found things a little different but I think this reflective of how Thialand has changed rather than the hotel itself. The staff was not as freindly as previously experienced & tips are almost demanded. They work long hours and appear tired. Reception can be very abrupt during their busy times.

Room Tip: choose a room with a balcony facing the pool.
