“Almost excellent, but just not quite”
Reviewed 3 January 2014

In due course the hotel will be great but it's just not quite there yet. There's quite a few little niggly things that take the edge off the experience - incomplete areas of the hotel, lack of towels at the pools, slow service in the restaurants at night. When viewed one by one those issues are almost inconsequential but when they are all viewed together they are enough to make this hotel a little short of the 5-star quality it probably will be soon.

All that said we have loved our stay and if we ever return to Phuket we would definitely return to the Avista.

clean sheets, good lighting, spot-on toilets, serene and calm location, away from the busy streets. The complementary shuttle to bangla market and the mall is really a life saver.
The 100m hill climb to/from the hotel takes a great effort. outside taxi are not welcome. The hotel taxis are way too expensive to the Airport as they charge double the normal rate.
Better stick to the taxi thats bringing you from the airport and ask his contact number for the return trip.
The bangla market has a lot of tourist operaters to take you but bargaining is strictly advised.
stayed in 201 with the family. New hotel. Nice breakfast. Enjoyable stay.
kids room helps with keeping the little ones occupied.
Beautiful pools.
Location seems a bit OUT but the silence is a bliss. Not much trouble speaking in English.
Will definitely stay again!!!

As described already in previous reviews the hotel itself is very nice, impressing lobby, great rooms, good breakfast, nice pools (mail and riverside ones). We were checked in fast and even earlier as we had an early flight.

Our disappointment however was the room view: we booked Club Vista Room based on the nice pictures on the hotel website and the description that they come with private pool for club vista rooms guests only, etc. Well it's not something the hotel can influence at this stage but what was once a forest facing the club vista rooms is now a dusty hill with all trees being cut down, so when there's wind blowing all the dust comes towards the pool area. Seems soon a construction will take place on this property next to Avista. So what we though would be something like a premium room happened to have the worst views of the entire hotel. Plus the private pool is actually accessible for all guests.
If you are booking in this hotel go for the standard rooms, they are overlooking the green grounds of the hotel, some of them even have access to the Riverside pool, which was great, so go for these rooms and avoid The Club Vista Rooms.

And finally our biggest disappointment: during New year's Eve party there was a lottery and we won a trip to Phi Phi islands, which was great. The problem was the voucher was valid from the 15th of January ?!!!? I can't imagine that the hotel had really though that guests being there on the 1st of January would be still in Phuket 15 days later to use their price. Anyway we asked one of the ladies who was from the organizers that night to check if possible to have the trip done on the 2nd as we were leaving on the 3rd and she very kindly promised us to check next morning and come back us,saying that she think it wont be a problem, she took all the data for the vaucher so that she can make the reservation. Well noone ever came back to us and next afternoon we went checking on the reception what happened we were redirected to talk with the Travel agent lady (btw these two lady on the travel desk were very rude) which told us that there are no place for the 2nd of Jan for Phi Phi and noone made a reservation for us. We went back to the reception to ask why if we were told that they were going to book for us in the morning they didn't and worst they didn't even tell us so that we could have gone to the city and book ourselves a different tour to Phi Phi as we really wanted to go, again we never got any response or feedback despite that we left our phone number to the reception boy who was going to check....

So overall is a good hotel, still very new, has a potential, but they need to work to improve a bit.

This resort has a lot of potential . The design is contemporary and has a very clean feel to it which I like a lot. As other guests have mentioned...navigating around the compound can be quite a hassle as the signs are quite confusing. The room itself is very well though out. big enough space, nice décor and lighting, adequate amenities. The pools are very well kept and have good views too .

There are however a few things I think Avista can improve on to make the guest experience better.

1) Restaurant menu. Breakfast spread was good. With a live station and lotsa variety to choose from. Unfortunately, the lunch and dinner menus are very limited. For a large resort, I will think that there will be more variety. I was craving for pasta, and couldn't find it on the menu, and pastas are normally a staple on hotel restaurant food. Same goes for thai food offering, only about 5-7 options?
2) Shuttle Service. I reckon it was peak period thus the overcrowding of the shuttle service to Patong . However, the management could possibly run 2 buses to patong at peak periods? The outside transport to patong at 300baht is considered expensive for a 10 min ride.
3) Service Staff. Inconsistent. some hits n misses. Requested for buggy to pick up bags at 7.30 so that enough time to check out n transport to pick up at 7.45. The buggy didn't arrive till 7.50 and I had to call twice to remind. Transport didn't arrive till 8.10 .

Overall the stay was pleasant . The resort is still new so perhaps after some tweaks it can become excellent.

We stayed here for 2 nights and being our honeymoon we decided to upgrade to an outside jacuzzi. The rooms are nice and new. The staff are friendly and helpful.
Being on top of the mountain I thought there would've been some views from our room but it was closed off and made us feel a little funny but I guess that was because of the jacuzzi outside?
Overall a nice stay for honeymoon with a price tag.

Stayed for about 5 nights on a group trip with friends for a year end catch up and it was simply excellent. From check in to the level of service, rooms, pools, attention to detail was fantastic. Highly recommend getting a jacuzzi suite.

Room Tip: All room types are great, go for the jacuzzi suite.
