Stayed here on honeymoon from November 5th to 14th, staying in a deluxe pool access room, and had the most amazing holiday.
Location - Not in the centre of Patong town (which is a good thing!) but literally a 10 min walk to get to the shops/bars/restaurants. If you want to go down to the beachfront then you're best to take a tuk-tuk. All tuk-tuks cost 200 Baht for anywhere in Patong town (about €5) no matter the number of passengers - so make sure you don't pay any more! There are loads of tuk-tuks around so we always caught one home each evening - which meant we didn't have to walk up the huge hill to reception!!
Staff - The staff were just amazing. We spent a lot of our time around the pool area and the service provided by Bang and the guys was top notch. They were very friendly and regularly came round to check if we had enough drinks. The cost of drinks / food was comparable to any european hotel so don't expect Thai prices. The quality of the food was, in our opinion, exceptional.
Room - The room was amazing!! I suffer from a bad back so am always a bit weary of hotel beds but I have to say that the bed/mattress was one of the best i've ever slept on. It was quite firm but not overly so (again, in my opinion). The A/C was one of the best ever and kept the room cold! The shower was just fabulous. We had room service a number of times for breakfast / lunch and again, the prices for this would be very comparable to european hotels (not cheap) but the quality of the food, the speed at which it came and the friendliness of the staff that delivered was first rate. The cleanliness of the room was first rate too.
Just to be clear - am not complaining at all about the price of the food / drinks in hotel - you have a choice to avail of this or not. And we wanted too! The price of food/drink in the town was a lot cheaper and plentiful. We ate out every night bar one and we didn't have one bad meal or experience. Two starters, two mains, two fried rice dishes, 3/4 beers each and we paid around 1,000 Baht (€25 euro). You can eat out a lot cheaper than this (and a lot more expensive) but this is what we had budgeted. The one night we ate at the hotel was the outdoor meal by the pool and this was brilliant.
Just a comment on the sunbeds around the pool area. As a rule, i don't like to use these as they hurt my back but these were the comfiest sunbeds I have ever used! They're made from wicker (not plastic) and were great.
We didn't use the spa or make it to breakfast during our stay so can't comment on these. Can't comment on the gym or creche either but these were used whilst we were there by other guests. We ate in the hotel restaurant on our last day after checking out and the quality of the food and speed at which it was served was superb.
We can't see how anyone can fault the hotel (especially now with Google Maps where you can check out the location of the hotel and surrounding area). We did witness some rudeness towards members of staff by some guests which was uncalled for. We found though that if you're polite and courteous to the staff then that's how they'll be with you. Simple really.
Transfers to/from airport. We arranged in advance of arriving for the hotel to send a car for us. This was at a charge of 1,000 baht (€25) for one way and was worth every penny. This was our first time to Thailand and we'd no way of directing any airport taxi to the Senses Resort. Mr Ao (pronounced "O") collected us from the airport and dropped us back there at the end of our stay and he was great. He offered to take us on some trips - which we'll take him up on next time - we were after 9 days of lying by the pool!! We did do one trip to Phi Phi island and we would recommend that trip. Cost in the brochure is 3,200 Baht per adult but by booking through the trip desk at the hotel, we got this for 2,700 Baht each. A great day out which included lunch and as much soft drink/water as you could drink!
One general comment on changing money. Use any of the money changer booths in Patong as the rate you get from them is probably the best. In Ireland, the exchange rate is around 40:1. Phuket airport was 40:1 and the money changes in Patong was 42:1 (42 Baht for €1). Be very careful of changing money in Phuket airport as I was short changed when changing some money there...
We will definitely be returning here again and hope to stay longer than 9 nights next time! We can't recommend this hotel highly enough.
