This hotel was in a great location. However, the rooms that connect to the pool smelt like mildew. That said, the staff was great and the service was excellent. The road the leads to the hotel is orange brick and adds to the character of the Hotel and location. There are no irons in the room or available to take to your room but they do have a room set aside for that. Laudry service is worth it and it does come back clean and fast.

Room Tip: Select a room with a balcony and not pool access

Stayed at the Baan Laimai Beach Resort for 14 nights in late October/early November. We arrived early on Thursday morning after flights from Australia and to Bangkok Airport and then Phuket. Paper work was completed promptly and we were shown to Room 5604, on the top floor with views of the ocean as requested. The room was spacious and all seemed in order.

The first 'glitch' was a light in the bathroom that couldn't be switched off and that's a problem because of a glass panel between the bathroom and the sleeping area. Phoned the front desk who put me through to 'housekeeping' The first to arrive suggested stuffing a face washer into the aperture. I declined. The second 'engineer' was more direct. He mounted a 'chair' and proceeded to twist, rotate, wrench, tug, jerk, snap, twitch, wrench, yank and what other word you want to use to disconnect the fitting from its power source. Eventually it happened and the 'broken' light was offending no more. What an introduction to problem solving. Brute force at its best.

The next morning however we had no 'power' and therefore no air-con, lights, TV and so on. Another call to 'house keeping' produced a new 'engineer' this time equipped with a ladder, a torch, and screwdriver. He looked into the ceiling, did a bit to 'fiddling' and lo' and behold power was restored. But sadly not for long. Over the next two weeks we had 11 repeats of complete power failure. Sometimes the 'fix' lasted as long as 48 hours. Other times much less, the shortest being 10 minutes. And while smiles were forthcoming, explanations were not. It would seem that no one in management was awake to this nonsense.

Next was the mini bar/refrigerator. After 36 hours or so it was evident that no cooling was occurring, so I again rang 'housekeeping' and requested assistance. Two engineers arrived and with hand gestures and the like I suggested that perhaps a replacement fridge might be in order.. One immediately picked up the phone, dialled a number (pushed a button actually), and handed me the receiver. The person at the other end spoke perfect English and explained to me that yes it was possible to get another fridge, but it would be a complete waste of time. While there were in excess of 250 fridges in the establishment, none (not one) of them worked. He apportioned the blame between the Chinese who made them and the US owners who ignored advice and bought them.

His solution was to buy ice either from their restaurant (no it wasn't free) or from the shop next door. So for the two weeks we bought ice (8 Baht a bag) twice a day and put it in the fridge. It made a very poor ice box and water had to be mopped up on a regular basis. But the beer and other drinks were cold (sort of). Hilarious!

Speaking of water, it rains on a very regular basis in Phuket and when it does the patio ceiling in Room 5604 leaks like a sieve. The light fitting even acts like a shower 'rose'. If you don't bring the chairs inside you will have damp nether regions. BTW when it rains there is surface water in many, many walking areas, at least on the top floor. It can be very slippery. Take care.

The hotel has numerous signs saying it's a non-smoking hotel and when you arrive at the entrance you see 'smokers' outside but don't be fooled, there are many, many more within the premises. Every morning, for example, staff put out ashtrays around the pool. Non-smoking my ar*e

There are two computers available for guest use but no protocols governing same. Thus on some days you will have children playing games for hours on end. One just shakes head re management of this joint.

The breakfasts are good. Plenty of variety both hot and cold. The staff are friendly and very helpful.

For us, this stay was like a camping holiday, albeit, an expensive one. It's an establishment badly in need of an upgrade and some serious management oversight with access to a realistic maintenance budget. Would we stay there again? Possibly, but would want to know whether potentially the best room in the joint was 'fixed'.

BTW, if one is coming from the airport, I can put you in contact with the best service on the island. Only 600 Baht each way (for two people) travelling in a new Toyota Prado, waiting at the Airport with name displayed. Airport to hotel door and you are the only passengers. Best service ever.

Room Tip: 5604 is one hell of an adventure, never knowing what the morrow will bring.

First impression was great, nice looking pool and excellent location. Then we wanted to have a shower..no hot water...normal it seems?! Then it gets dark and you want to sleep but just meters away is a live band doing their thing at the hotel bar until after midnight. No chance in hell you can sleep with that going on especially when the bed is as hard as a rock! Then it came to housekeeping the next day...they didn't turn up. Had to go to reception to ask for it. They did their thing but after they left we had no toilet paper and they didn't replace the beach towels which you get charged for if they are missing at checkout! Still have 3 sleepless nights to go in this pathetic excuse for a hotel...oh and the wifi not so good..

Great Hotel! We love the Baan Laimai. I have stayed here twice it has a great location, pool and restaurant. It is a 5 minute walk to bangla road which is the main street in Patong. On both stays our rooms have ben upgraded for free and we have received nothing but great service from them. I would highly recommend staying here. The rooms are quiet and the pool is clean. We will be back!

Room Tip: We have booked superior rooms both times and we have been upgraded to deluxe rooms for free

Stayed at baan laimai for eight days and was expecting a lot worse considering previous reviews. Location is excellent, staff is helpful, food is good. Room was also good considering we went for the "no frills" option (standard room no window). One small issue, daily cleaning of the room (namely bathroom) was not up to standard so I had to let reception know I wasn't happy. Would I come back? Definitively yes.

Room Tip: If you go for the standard room no window it is good to get room at the end of the corridor facing t...

Stayed at Baan Lai Mai earlier this year for about a week. Overall the stay was enjoyable and staff were generally polite and attentive, although I would not recommend to stay here if you don't want to risk valuables getting stolen.
Towards the end of the stay, after coming home from the beach we discovered that our Camera, with all our photos, as well as a pair of shoes and money from a wallet were missing, we literally turned the room upside down looking and nothing showed up. After narrowing down the logical explanations, the only other possible way our valuables were stolen would be by a staff member who has access to our room. We went down to reception immediately to report the stolen Camera, money and shoes, and to top it all off the staff were not helpful and it was quite a shock to see their reactions were so careless and half hearted! The aftermath was quite the icing on the cake, no empathy, no real acknowledgement and no compensation. After all this the staff had a bad attitude and terrible in terms of customer service.
So, again, I wouldn't recommend to stay here if you don't want to risk things going missing !

The only hiccup is the mystery of why tooth brush and tooth paste are not standard items provided by the hotel! But problem is solved easily by buying them from convenient store near the baan laimai. Rooms were very spacious and view of Patong beach nice. Will recommend this hotel to my friends because of the location.
