“4 Star resort worthy of 4 stars”
Reviewed 6 July 2013

We stayed in building 4 (sunset, ground floor with pool access) late June and found Graceland good value at a place that does not pretend to be something it is not. The rooms were clean and tidy, everything worked fine and was cleaned daily - although pool access means anyone can access your spa / pool.
The buffet (breakfast and dinner) was okay but after a few days becomes a bit boring, and the juice (cordial) was not nice. Overall, it is a great place to stay, not too far from the action.

Room Tip: Sunset wing was good, but id give any room there a go.

We stayed at Gracelands for 8 nights, got a deal stay 8 pay four. We were in a double deluxe room in the new part of the hotel, building five, and the room was very nice, two double beds, and a rollaway, and still had plenty of room with lounge area and balcony. Bathroom was also quite large. Buffet Breakfast was excellent had everything you would want, although did get very busy and hard to find a table sometimes. This is a very popular hotel for Aussies, and was great for kids with a Kids club, also has its own bowling alley which is quite cheap, and plenty of pools for the kids to swim in. Only down side not enough sun lounges around, but good shade if you get one on the sky pool. Across the road from the beach, plenty of good restaurants and shopping around, and is only 15 mins walking from Bangla Rd. Wifi in room at a cost, but free wifi in lobby. Overall we enjoyed our stay, is good for families, but is a busy hotel so not for those looking for a quite hotel.

Room Tip: We stayed in Building 5, new area and at the back of the hotel. Second floor of this has a balcony p...

We travel to Phuket annually and thought we would try Gracelands for a few days before going back to where we normally stay. The staff are friendly and kind enough but do not go above and beyond like at other resorts. Breakfast was good and offered a great range of food however it was crowded, people were pushy and we even lost our table when we went up to get more food as it was cleared to make way for the large number of people. Check in was great and they even drove us to our room to prevent us from getting wet from the small rain shower which was lovely. Room i was a good size and has a really good bathroom - we were impressed. Pools are brilliant and this is one of the main reasons we wanted to stay and check it all out however ordering food at the pool was a bit of a hassell which detracted from the experience.
Although nice and all we felt like we were just a number, move them in and move them out, whereas the other resorts we have stayed in, although the pools may not be as flash, there is a real sense of community and the staff know you by name. We got a good deal by booking online but I still found it expensive compared to others we have stayed at, and although the location is a little out of the hustle and bustle we found it too far out for a quick dash to a cheap restaurant for lunch etc. Worth a stay for the pools, however you can get just a good resort for the same price or better in Patong. We are glad we tried it out though - the view from the Belgian Beer pub as the sun sets is magic.

Generally I would say the hotel is good value for money. As this was the first time I have stayed in Thailand I am not sure how it relates to other properties. Because of this I am also unclear as to which idiosyncrasies were unique to this property.
The room was of a very good standard, although when we arrived, the room smelt musty. Got the sheets changed on the first morning and that seemed to improve things. Agree that it is a good idea to leave a few baht out for room cleaners. They appreciate it as salaries are not high. We also had a problem with a leaking air conditioner and every morning there was a film of moisture just outside the bathroom. We advised reception and it was attended to.

About 15 minute walk to Bangla Road. Probably good exercise but some times found it a bit tiring in the heat. However closer than many others.

Generally quiet. We were close to the construction (we were in building 3), but did not find it a problem.

Pool was superb, salt cleaning and generally able to find seats. Needed the pool as it was hot and sticky.

Staff English a bit variable and not always sure the message got through at the time, but on reflection it must have as there were no slip ups. I think the staff were friendly and tried to help. Easy to get a smile from them. I must say that my experience of Asia is that they love their paperwork and at times I found this a bit tiresome. For example I was not impressed with waiting at reception when I was checking out so that they could do a room inspection for mini-bar and missing items. But I have experienced that at other Asian hotels as well.

Food was expensive and of indifferent quality. The buffet breakfast had a lot of variety, but by the end of the stay I was pretty bored with it. Eggs tasted funny.. but that was the same in other places as well. Must be what they feed the chickens up there. Toaster a bit of a mission.. generally had to put through at least twice and some times only cooked one side at a time. Butter also different to what I am used to. I do think they should prevent tattooed people from attending breakfast without a shirt. A lot of people, myself included, were quite grossed out.

For most of our meals we preferred to eat a Jung Ceylon. Based on what we saw of the restaurants, most other people did as well, as they were only full for the free breakfast or the pool bar when you did not wish to stray too far from the pool. Still expensive.

One grizzle. Why can't they just say what something costs without the small print at the bottom saying subject to 10 percent service charge and VAT. Adds about 20 percent to the bill with the poolside hamburger going from 270 baht to 318 baht. In fairness they all do it, but it makes it pretty expensive.

Overall though I think it was a good property and I would stay there again.

Room Tip: Get a pool view room.

The Graceland resort was a really great place to stay, we stayed in a family room which was quite spacious and had plenty of room for our suitcases as well as a couch to have a nap on. The balcony overlooked one of the many pools and the kids had a great time swimming. It is central to many shops and bangla road and we did plenty of shopping. The buffet breakfast was great although drinks and food otherwise during the day at the hotel were very pricey. We went in low season I would hate to see this place with all 600 rooms booked it would be chaos. The beds were very hard and I woke up every morning with a sore back. They tried to tell us we lost a spoon on checkout and were trying to charge us for it which they funnily enough found on closer inspection. Overall 3/5

Having just left Graceland I am already missing the lifestyle in on Patong beach. Everything about this place is luxury, however the extras are very pricey (e.g. Massage, minibar, bowling centre). They do give you free breakfast, dinner and some cocktails which was all fantastic. Great shopping all around. Best accommodation I have ever had.
