“Great little Hidden Gem”
Reviewed 8 December 2010

Stayed in Nov 2010 for an 8 nighter get away from Australia. Overall this is a good little hotel if you are not into the party atmosphere of Patong.
Starting off with the Pro's. It is a small hotel so you can't get lost when walking around it, you are also in your room within 2 minutes unlike the larger hotels/resorts where you need a cut lunch everytime you walk from your room to reception. The staff are incredible, they are extremely helpful and considerate. While there I got a case of the Thai Tummy (the close relative to Bali Belly) and the staff where constantly checking up on me and the missus, asking if there was anything we needed and all of that. The rooms are great for a cheaper hotel, big queen sized bed plenty of room for the suitcases and the dreader shopping and the air con works a treat. It is hidden away but is only 5 minutes walk to every where in Patong, couldn't find a better situated hotel. The whole place is clean which is a relief, especially when you have spent the day walking the beat. We arrived just after 9 in the morning and they even let us check in early at no extra charge.
Middle (Neither a pro or a con) the breaky, nothing flash, freshly cooked eggs and fruit but enough to get you through the morning. - A little tip - Bring your own coffee, same deal as Bali, the coffee in Thailand isn't the same as at home.
The bad bits now, The restaraunt is only open to 3 in the arvo, so if you want to stay in and releax in the evening you can't. The Bar doesn't open till 2 in the arvo, saying that if you walk out the rear exit there is a shop sort of thing on the right hand side, also there is no longer a happy hour at this hotel. The hot water was hit and miss, I would pressume it is a solar HWS as when the sun came out the water got hot, unfortunately we had a run of 5 days with no sun and had no hot water for 5 days.
Now for the big downer - the RUSSIANS, this place gets swamped with them, they are the most arrogant tourists to deal with. Not the hotels fault by no means, but they seem to be attracted to this place in the droves. Good luck dealing with them as even the Thais roll there eyes and curse at them when they walk away. If you know anything about Thai people you know they are the most patient people you will ever come accross.
Overall enjoyed the place but 8 nights was enough.

We found Poppa Palace to be in a great location, down a quiet street just minutes from all the action. The staff were so friendly and really looked after us especially after our flight was cancelled and we needed to stay a few extra nights they gave us the same rate I had booked off the internet. The rooms were clean and serviced every day. The breakfast was basic but for the price we paid we could not complain. the beach was in walking distance as was the shopping centre and heaps of restaurants. I recommend the massage parlour across the road it was great. Also if you need your laundry done or a hair cut the hair dresser directly opposite Poppa's Palace is great. For a quiet meal when you have had enough of the noise I recommend orange restaurant. The meals were so cheap about $3 and really delicious and fresh. As for getting out and about we hired a mini bus and driver just down the road and he took us to so many great places off the beaten track. i recommend you do your shopping at the night markets in Phuket town as it is much cheaper than Patong, and if you get a chance head up to Nai Yang beach for great prawns and a swim in the calm water with the kids.

I found this hotel from a friend of mine who visited the hotel sometime back. The hotel is situated at good location in a very quiet environment. Easy access to patong beach and the walking street where you can buy things and enjoy. Hotel staffs are very friendly and polite. I booked for a deluxe room with a balcony and found the room was in a good quality. Bath room is very clean and all the necessary equipments were available. Hotel prices are very reasonable. Breakfast was included for our package and found some variety in all three day including Thai authentic food to the man. Hotel had got two swimming pool which were in good quality.

Hotel location is very convenient, very short walk to the beach and patong central, yet it is a quite and relaxing place. Lots of common space where you can spend time reading or quiet down.
I booked a suite with 2 rooms with friends.
Very affordable price.

Would stay again.

My son and I booked this hotel for our first trip to phuket, i booked a deluxe twin through direct rooms, which cost me $285 for 9 days 8 nights. We were taken up to the 3rd floor, and our balcony was overlooking the pool, we were more than pleased with it, the staff are very friendly, nothing was to much trouble for them, i loved the massage chairs down in reception, the rooms were cleaned every day, and we were given 2 bottles of free water everyday, we cleaned out all the booze they had in the fridge, and just used it for our drinks.
the only downside to this hotel we found, was the buffet breakfast (even though i ever had it)
my son complained that the hot food, was in fact, warm or cold, i just stuck to toast, juice, and an omelette, which is cooked at the time you order it, there is someone manning a hot plate, and cooks it as its ordered.
u can also have cereal, or fresh fruit, or yogurt with fruit.

i think this is a 3 and a half star at a great price. but on the other hand i would NOT book it direct, i found out it was $195 dearer to do this.

I have stayed in the family room and it was actually clean and good. it is near the beach and bangla road so you would in fact save a lot on tuk tuks. you cannot expect 5 star luxury for its cheap pricing rooms but overall it is comfortable and good.

they also had 2 pools where you could chill and a pool side bar for drinks or snacks. they do charge a 50baht for 50 mins of internet on their PCs near the lobby. however it has a lot of mosquitoes at night and it is not advisable to stay there for more than an hour.
