“Nice place to stay”
Reviewed 15 February 2014

Very good budget hotel! The main attraction is the unique location near the beach. Family owned with good service from the stuff. They can organize the transfer from and to the airport. The breakfast is very poor that gives you the opportunity to have alternative one in one of cafes on the beach with fantastic sea view. The hotel and the near beach are full of Moomintrolls, Goblins, hobbits and other kind of gnomus from Denmark, Finland and Sweden. You can easily identify them by not well-groomed appearance, poor weird clothes and long nails on their feet. Their super peasant style is underlined by IKEA’s and discounter’s carrier bags used as beach bags. Sometimes they are very loud, but it’s good that they speak language no one can understand.
There are a lot of good Massage salons nearby. I would recommend the one which is in the same building “Tum Bub Thai”. If you want to have really professional massage ask for Ann. She is really good and has professional education in this field. Another lady – Noi is also good. They can hardly speak English, but the man who coordinates them is speaking pretty good English.
Taxi service: The best taxi you can find is also near this hotel. We are very happy to use taxi of beautiful lady taxi driver Aey. We know her for more than 5 years already and use her taxi during each stay here. She is driving a very good Toyota 4 wheel runner, speaks very good English and it is very convenient that you can call her and agree the time and place for pick up. Just call her by phone – 081 894 8178.
She became a real friend to our family for the years we know each other.

Room Tip: Take delux room with sea view!

I liked the atmosphere and location, the breakfast was ok, but nearby you could go eat local specialities. Rooms were fine, and I think it was a good budget hotel. The beach was just nearby and on high season you could swim and do watersports. On low season it is good for surfing and I think it is very easy to learn there.

Stayed here with family. Chose this hotel as it was right next to the beach and looked like good value. And it is. Beautiful Kata beach is right there. Hotel is nothing fancy, but a decent room, bed and shower.

The thing that cost them one and almost two of the rating points for me was that the thai family who run and live in the hotel where so incredibly sour. I was not expecting anything major from them (after all this is a two star hotel), just a hello or a nod when we passed each other in the lobby. Not even upon paying our bill at the end of the stay was there a goodbye. We are calm and quiet guest and had done nothing to upset them. They did speak english and was perfectly able to tell us the number of bath we had to pay. We got just the number and staff then counted the bills. Nothing further was said and we walked out astounded. Such a shame...

Room Tip: Get a room on the seaside away from the road.

Kata Sun Beach scores high marks in 2 areas: Location and value for money. Located at the Southern end of Kata Beach with less than 100 meters to the beach, and on the beach side ot the main road, it has a near perfect location. It consists of 2 buildings, the main building with most of the rooms, and a new building with pool terrace on the first floor. This building has 6 deluxe rooms in 3 levels overlooking the pool.

The rooms in the main building are very spacious, but the balcony is very narrow and has the Airconunit mounted at one side, which makes the space even tighter, and pretty noisy if the aircondition is running. Not a place you really enjoy to be, but it is there. There are 2 types of rooms - "Mountain View" which really means "Street and a whole mess of electrical wires - view", and "Oceanview" - which means that from some of the rooms on that side you can see some of the beach and a bit of ocean. But never mind that. Prices are very low, so you might not expect too much, but everything is very well maintained and kept very clean. I have stayed in much more expensive hotels with a much lower standard of cleaning.

The deluxe rooms in the new building are of pretty high standard. Not very big, but adequate, and the balconies on the upper 4 rooms are larger than the ones in the main building which makes them much more usable. And no aircon units on the balcony. Good view of the beach and the town. The standard is actually very high.

Breakfast is American breakfast, cereals, yogurt and fruit and is served in the hotels own cafe.

The hotel is family-run and the staff is very nice and helpful.

There are no facilities for families, so the guests are mostly older couples or friends traveling together. Very quiet atmosphere, and the proximity to beach, restaurants, bars and shopping outweighs the lack of bar, restaurant and other facilities.

A highly recommendable low-budget hotel. The value for money is fantastic.

Room Tip: Seaview rooms are quieter than the ones facing the street. Deluxe rooms are excellent.

Kata Sun Beach is a family hotel near the nice beach. Everyone is very friendly, the rooms are large with a minibar. Clean and tidy at the hotel. You really feel welcome. The breakfast was also very good. Have only stayed here once, but returns next year and probably more times.

We didn't expect much afterall it was only 2-star hotel but we were positively surprised. Room was clean and in very good condition. They give beach towels free of charge. There is no traffic noise if your room is on beach side of house. Internet on the lobby costs 1 baht per minute. The hotel location is quite good. Laundry, shop, restaurants and beach are near. The only downside is that the street hasn't the sidewalk when you go to the Kata centre so be careful especially if you have children.

Coming back to this family run hotel at the southern end of Kata Beach is like seeing an old friend. The owner does not skimp on maintaining the buildings. The paint always appears clean and fresh.

Room cleanliness is second to none. The rooms are not lavish, but are spacious enough and well furnished. The huge King Size beds are very comfortable, as are the pillows, but I guess that is subject to one's own preferences. I've only stayed in Seaview rooms, and suspect the rooms at the front of the hotel are subject to some road noise. That said, the insulation from exterior noise is quite good.

The staff are very helpful, and friendly. I haven't used the coffeee shop, but I noted that it was well patronised. We usually take a 'room only' tarriff.

The hotel is at the foot of the headland on the southern end of the beach. It is less than 100m from the reception desk to the beach. The hotel provides beach towels from the reception desk. The swimming pool, like the rooms, is kept immaculately. The water sparkles, and the ph balance of the water is very easy on the eyes.

Not a lot here for family groups, but for singles and couples I cannot speak highly enough of this place as a value for money 3 Star hotel. There are plenty of good bungalows in this area, but to access many of them requires a lot of stair climbing. We initially stayed here after another place at which we had a "confirmed" booking could not provide us with a room upon our arrival. To be honest, it would have not been my first choice of accommodation. I'm very glad that we happened to discover this hotel six years ago. If you are on a short break, and prefer a hotel with a lift in preference to a hillside bungalow with a lot of stairs, then you could do a lot worse than to consider the Kata Sun Beach.
