“Great beach front hotel & service, but unswimmable beach”
Reviewed 21 January 2010

This hotel truly focuses on personalized service from the personal preference survey before arrival, to the courteous and friendly service during our stay, and the incredible lost and found notice and service after our departure. What we liked most was the boutique feel to the hotel. The guests are all independent travelers so it is quiet and very relaxing especially during meal times. This combined with the bay front beauty provides ideal relaxation. It's not a mega resort if that is what you are after. Instead, it feels as though you are staying at a good friends' posh vacation home.

The biggest downside is the location - Rawai is a bay, not really a beach so not swimmable and it is quite far down south and many activities are up north. So it cost time and money to head out and do things.

the hotel is wonderful: big cosy rooms, a beautiful restaurant near the see where you can eat a good breakfast, a big swimming pool where you can swim, very nice attendants...
but you can't bath in the sea because: 1) with the low tide there are 200mt of muds to pass before achieving the water and 2) with the high tide the water is not transparent.
if you book a serenity room , be advised that it is not an apartment and it is not looking the sea!
apart form the bad sea situation, tha hotel is nearby (5 minutes with a scooter) the very nice area of Rawai where you can find many delicious restaurnats and 10 minuts from the most wonderful beach of Phuket island: Nai Harn.
if you like going arond with a moto, this hotel is perfect.
if you want an hotel nearby a splendid sea where to bath in, this is not the right place.

We spent Christmas Eve, Day and Boxing Day at the Outrigger resort, and the whole experience was perfect! This was our first leg of a 3 week trip and what a perfect start to a holiday, and actually, the best place we stayed throughout the whole trip (and that includes Lebua in Bangkok, in which I will write a very different review!!)
Firstly, unbeknown to me, I was proposed to on Christmas Day here, and the staff did everything imaginable to make it special even before we arrived. I found out later my fiance (still can't get used to that!) tried to arrange private dining on the jetty in the sea, but at the last minute due to the tides this couldn't be done. the alternative they offered was even better...they upgraded is to a suite and we had private dining on our terrace on Christmas Day. I highly recommend this, with apersonal chef and butler actually cooking a feast for a king. they set up the whole terrace with BBQ, candleit table for two, and a huge table full of shellfish, fish, meat, curries, salads...enought for 10 people!!! And they cook it all fresh in front of you, it was absolutely perfect!!!
Now, that aside, even if it wasn't a special occasion, everybody was treated so specially. The service was impeccable, not too 'in your face' but always there if you needed them, and Lewis, the chef, cooked amazing food. the Christmas eve gala dinner was also fantastic as was the service.
the rooms.....we had a one bedroom suite quite near to the reception lobby but the space.....it was huge!!! Massive bathroom...rainshower, bath fits two, sink each and private toilet. Lovely toiletries too!!
Huge bed, huge TV, DVD etc....
Maid service excellent.
Prices for food & drink actually not too bad considering it is quite a luxury resort, good selection for any budget.
If you want somewhere where you can relax on a beach....don't go here. that isn;t a negative and advertised on their website, but the views from the various sun terraces are great!! you are right on the beach...but the tides are so 'in and out' that it isn't a sun bathing beach!
The pool is gorgeous though, and plenty of room for sunbathing. There are about 8-10 sunbeds on the edge of the pool which did get full every morning but to be hinest, we preffered going up to the two sun terraces (one on top of the bar, one on top of the restaurant) which were still around the pool and full of cabanas and beds!!! i will attach photos. This was always quiet and we usually had the whole terrace to ourself with others favouring poolside, so for couple...get yourself up there for some privacy!!
Breakfast was great, full range of continental brekkie, fruit, cereals, then hot food fresh to order including, belgian waffles, pancakes, as well as eggs benedict, eggs and bacon etc.
I really could go on and on about how great this resort is, from the moment we walked in...we didn;t want to leave, but we had a liveaboard waiting!!!
Regards to a recent review on here calling the place ...bland, bland, bland....if you don;t like modern architecture...then check where you are staying before booking it. Outrigger is a brand new modern resort and it's website shows all features of rooms, facilities, images etc....if you want more thai style places, then look before you book!!!! It was a very unfair review, because although the place was modern (as advertised) the hospitality and service was definitely Thai...and I cannot wait to go back to this awesome resort!!!
