We arranged our stay via the Groupon deal and from "our own experience", can dismiss any of the negative reviews, which we had read up on prior to staying.
The resort is amazing, so well kept, friendly and attentive staff, excellent restaurant at all times of the day, relaxing pool and bar area (Happy Hours deals were good) and a wonderful Spa with huge assortment of treatments. The room (114) was pure luxury, from the comfortable beds, everything kept spotlessly clean, to the outdoor shower and jacuzzi, outdoor seating and hammock on the balcony, a pure luxury relaxation accomodation!
The stay dates we wanted did not exactly match the "deal" dates initially, but the management were great and put together some very accomodating options that did suit us. They offered the collection service from airport also prior to arrival, which we didn't take up but from a convenience and cost side, works out failry reasonable, especially to a first time traveller to Thailand. The resort & restaurant/bar staff were excellent, so friendly and always attempted to make our stay as effortless as could be. The room service was prompt and the food arrived hot and to restaurant quality.
We had Richard meet us for the breakfast "sell" that so many previous have commented on. He explained the Holiday Club and showed us around the resort, we gave him our current situation (that does not suit us joining the club) and that was that, no hassle, no harassment, no pressure, a very likeable gent who further advised and helped us later in the week regarding booking and recommending day trips.
Kata Beach/ Town is only a taxi ride away (400 Baht/ 15 mins) and the Resort runs a free coutesy bus, three times per day, to the beautiful Nai Harn Beach. A short walk from the resort is Rawai, it was convenient for anything we required, a nice town but there was never a feeling to want to leave the resort.
If and when I plan a return to Thailand, The Mangosteen will be high up on my search options and I would have no hesitation in returning myself or recommending it as a place to stay for a rest & relaxation trip!

Room Tip: Luxury resort, doubt there is a bad room to be honest!

My husband and I came here for a week over Christmas. This was our first trip to Thailand and we LOVED the Mangosteen Resort! The staff were amazing, the food was great, the rooms were very luxury- we loved it all. One of our favourite parts was the pool bar where you sit in the pool and order cocktails (2 for 1 happy hours :) Also our room was perfect (room 309) it had a Jacuzzi, large king size bed, plenty of room and was cleaned multiple times a day.
The resort offers free shuttles to the beach which we used a few times and there are markets down there and beautiful flat water to float in. It is a bit out of the way if you're planning to do your holiday by foot but there is Taxi service at the end of the driveway and they can take you any where.
If you want to relax (especially as a couple) this is the place for you!!!
Thank you Mangosteen for the wonderful holiday

Room Tip: I think the whole resort is quiet and good location but we had room 309 and barley saw anyone it was...

My husband and I were looking forward to a relaxing stay on a luxury resort which it was not. The Thai staff were very nice and helpful but they obviously had certain tasks to fulfill - one being to harass people about making time to get a sales talk about time share with 3 British sales men (who I might add were seriously obnoxious with their well rehearsed sales talk to rope people in to a deal). They were like stalkers and would not take NO -NOT INTERESTED to the point that they were rude and made some insulting remarks to us.
Had we known that we would have been harassed by these salesmen we would not have gone to this resort. The only time that they were inconspicuous was over a weekend when I think the Singaporean owner and her daughter were there.
The accommodation was lovely - large hut with comfortable bed and couches and nice bathroom facility - island style and set in the gardens
The restaurant was not bad (fairly basic really) and overpriced - we were not that excited about menus to want to have dinner there other than one night. The restaurant staff were lovely.
The view from the restaurant across to the beaches was great
Pool area was ok - in need of maintenance really and an upgrade would go a long way However at the end of day in afternoon it was nice to sit around, have a drink and then go and get ready to go out for the evening
The very best part was the ayurvedic massage/spa area near the pool (pricey) but we still endulged ourselves several times. In particular the Ayurvedic doctor who was there a few times was fantastic and very giving of his knowledge (he spoke perfect English) so we communicated well.
The resort is in the mountain but only a 5 min taxi ride to Rawai village and a little further to the beach. Resort provides shuttle service to the beach which is great. Nai Harm beach is great but does have strong surf and rips. However in saying that the beach does have surf patrols - even good, experienced swimmers could find themselves in danger at this beach so caution needed
For us the English salesmen hounding everyone made the stay at this resort disappointing
OWNERS of the resort - get rid of them they are only doing harm to the place

I had read the sometimes negative views and the replies with some worries about Mangosteen - forget that - the resort is great and delivered at each and every level !
Room ( try 208) was great - what lovely sunrises of the bay . Pool and pool side bar is friendly and fun. Restaurant food was exceptional - it may be more expensive than street food but Id rather have a bit of quality and not get ill.
Service at the desk from the entire team was great - nothing too much trouble and always on hand to offer advice including open discussions on taxis and walking and local sites and food places.
Ok - Mangosteen is not in the heart of the city vibe - and if you want that you may be disappointed and yes taxis in Phuket are ridiculously expensive (I think 4 x that of Bangkok) but some planning and the regular local bus to the beach will ease that limited pain.
The spa - well only to say I fell asleep under the great hands - I hope that is a compliment! The ginger tea post massage a great final touch !
The stay was great thanks to the team !

Room Tip: Id advice a higher room ( Room 208 was great) and accept taxis and build them into your daily plan...

We have just left the mangosteen today after 5 days of christmas heaven. Firstly i would like to saythanks to all the staff for making our stay wonderful and secondly would like to clear up some bad things said about this resort. 1 the road conditions. It is 100 meter dirt road that belongs to the city not the resort, as soon as you hit the property its a paved road very well lit. 2. The staff could not bemore friendly if they tried and you dont need to ask twice for anything. 3. Food and drink prices. Yes the street food is cheaper but its a luxury resort, really what do you expect, here you pay a little extra for ambiance and incredible service and have to say drinks are minimally cheaper in the street by 20 thai batt. For all those people comming on a voucher you have to realise you have gotten a bargin, dont complaign about prices in a nice resort.4. Minibar prices. Im in bangkok and minibar is double the price. Finally 5. The sales pitch. There is no sales pitch, its simply an oppertunity to listen to a great offer for future travel, go listen and enjoy, i wish i was in a position to get in on a gret deal, i met ian, a great reprasentitive, not a salesman. All in all a fantastic holiday, great value, and have to add the room is amazing, my first apt was not as big. Thanks mangosteen and will be back next year. Calab and alex

We had an excellent stay here! After finding the Groupon voucher online, we felt like it was an opportunity not to miss...and we weren't wrong! During our stay the staff were excellent, always keen to go above and beyond. There were a few times where I neeed to try to rephrase what I was asking for greater understanding, but this was fine...Thai is the local language after all!

Our room (117) was amazing! It has views of Rawai Beach and Chalong Bay, we couldn't believe it! The bed was huge (massive!) and so comfortable. I have been to Thailand three times and always had rock hard beds, so this was a very welcome surprise! The outdoor shower area was incredible. We loved the shower itself (they have a normal shower and waterfall style from the roof). It was such a free feeling showering outdoors. We would also like to make note of the wonderful housekeeping staff! We would typically go to breakfast around 9 and return at 10 to a new-looking room.

The restaurant served excellent breakfasts! We highly recommend getting the breakfast packages...and freely admit to 'loading up' for the morning (it was just too yummy). We also went to the 'Thai Food-Lover's Night' which was incredible. Best Thai food I have had! We occasionally had lunch by the pool which was also very delicious. We loved the pool and enjoyed quite a few happy hours! The pool bar staff were all so friendly and we so attentive.

We made lots of new friends while at the resort, of all ages. I think this was due to being open and friendly. I think we definitely got more out of our stay due to the friendships made and ended up doing things together that we may not have done alone (dinner in the sea gypsy village for example).

As part of our stay, we had a breakfast with Ian, who discussed future holiday options. All of the guys doing promotions were really friendly, understanding and not at all pushy...to those who are nervous about this part, we recommend to listen, make a decision on whether this is for you and give it to them straight. At worst, you'll have got a free meal.

My two cents regarding negative reviews on here...Prior to our trip to the resort, I had read reviews that weren't very complimentary. However, our approach was to be as open as possible and make the most of the trip. While at the resort, we noticed two 'types' of visitors...the open and the closed. The open all had a great time, the closed weren't as sociable, spent days (full days) just in their rooms and were very rude to staff. Our conclusion was that those who don't enjoy their stay as much is a result of not making the most of it while there. The road! I would just like to say that small roads in Thailand are definitely bumpy...there isn't much the resort can do about it. The driveway and carpark within the resort itself are perfect though...if anything, when you first arrive at the Mangosteen, it looks even more like paradise with the manicured gardens visible while still on the road.

Overall, we had an amazing trip. Great people, great food, great accommodation...we couldn't have asked for more, especially as it was such a great deal! Thank you Mangosteen!

Room Tip: Room 117 has amazing views!

Loved our stay here. Room was really cool especially the big shower area under the thatched roof.
Restaurant was not as good as local food and much more expensive.
Grab a scooter from rental on corner near the resort and explore the local cafes and the thrill of the ride.
We would certainly go back to Mangosteen
