“Great resort, excellent spa food could be better”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 May 2014 via mobile

Spent a week here and indulged in the spa treatments which were absolutely amazing. The accommodation is good but requires a little maintenance (eg. loose tap fittings) and touch ups to really make this place stand out. The food in the restaurant was rather disappointing. As lovers of spicy food, we found the food not as full of spices and flavours as we'd come to expect of Thai food. Overall a very good experience and the staff are always extremely courteous and willing to help.

Thankyou Mangosteen for the opportunity to experience your resort at such a reasonable cost. Initially I was dissappointed in our Villa as I felt the appearance did not match the photos on your website - I felt the Villa was very tired looking and definitely needs a re-furbish especially considering your normal charges. The pool was fantastic and the highlight of our stay. We struggled with the constant climb to the pool from our Villa but it was very humid and we are in our mid to late sixties. The sales team seem a really nice group of guys and we warmed immediately to Ian and Lee - no pressure at all during the sales pitch. We ended up really enjoying our stay but would not return as we feel the cost is far too high. Please Mr Mangosteen get rid of those horrible couches in the Villas!! Oh and your staff are fantastic!!

Room Tip: Try to avoid the lower villas due to the climb to the pool, reception and restaurant.

If you want a place to relax, soak up the sun and swim this is the place. Staff friendly, service excellent, prices very reasonable. We'll be back. Plenty of activities to do in the local area, many good restaurants at very cheap prices close by.

My better half and I spent a week here earlier this month and for once this has prompted me to write a review!

We are not really resort people but have come to South East Asia to get some much needed down time and relaxation. A such we weren't drinking any alcohol or staying out late - quite the opposite. Lots of sleeping and lazing in the pool and on the beach.

The layout of the rooms and the resort in general is great. You get a lot of privacy in with the very large rooms and the very pool-centric public area is very conducive to socialising with the other people staying the resort or hiding away on a sun lounger with your nose in a book.

The location is great if you don't want to be in thick of the busier areas like Patong. Rawai is the mellower end of the island. We had our own wheels for the week and really liked coming back to the Mangosteen oasis after spending time at the markets, restaurants and beaches on the island.

The staff are super friendly and I was pleasantly surprised at the open and laid back manner in which the sales staff who are marketing and selling club memberships to guests. Part of the exceptional deal we received via GrabOne in New Zealand was to meet with one of the resort's reps and this was a very friendly, social and no pressure interaction that nearly had us buy in!

I booked this online & to my delight the pictures of the resort were true to life! A well thought out resort including a wine cellar, private villas overlooking the ocean. A small peaceful resort with a great pool & relaxing spa with tailored treatments. Very helpful staff & a BIG thank-you to Richard for your introduction to the members club. Resort rooms are being updated currently to be even better. Adding coffee machines are appreciated & iPhone docking station. Food is fabulous & close by to many tourist attractions, local beaches, but far away enough to soak up the sun & tranquil settings. We will be back in October/November this year. Highly recommend for your next holiday getaway! See you soon Mangosteen friends & staff ;)

Don’t waste your time paying any attention to negative reviews of this fabulous resort. We too grabbed a bargain on scoopon for a 7 night stay at the Mangosteen. To be honest, Thailand was never on our list of must see countries but the deal was too good to pass up; we grabbed it.

I began to research the resort here on trip advisor and noted there were a few negative reviews, particularly in regards to staying here on a coupon. Maybe this deal was too good to be true? We were a little nervous about it but we agreed to just go with an open mind and see what happens.

We decided our first wedding anniversary would be a great occasion to enjoy the resort so we emailed the Mangosteen and found their communication speedy, efficient and friendly. We had no problem booking dates we wanted and upgraded to a different suite as we wanted to enjoy the Jacuzzi while on holiday. We booked 6 months in advance and between booking and travelling (we stayed 3-10 May 2014) there were numerous emails backwards and forwards. My emails were always answered quickly and all my questions addressed.

We read about the sales talk as part of the voucher, and even though scoopon had emailed us to inform us it was completely voluntary, we decided to at least offer the team the courtesy of listening to what they had to say. (We felt it was only fair since we were getting 7 nights accommodation for only AUD$199). To be honest, before arriving we were pretty much certain that we wouldn't be interested in the club, but as I said, we agreed to listen as a courtesy of the radically cheap price we were given. We were prepared to politely say “no thank you” and go on with our holiday. However... we saw how the club could work for us and we ended up joining. So as I said... go with an open mind and you may be surprised. Enjoy the free breakfast they give you... listen to what they have to say and then decide for yourself. If it sounds good and will work for you.. GREAT!.. if it doesn't sound like something you’d be interested in or make use of... (POLITELY) say “no thanks” and carry on. Simple.

I read a lot about “aggressive sales talks”... the “white shirt brigade” and my personal favourite... the “British Mafia” but you know what?.. its all in the attitude you take with you. Sales are sales... whether you buy a tv, a car or a holiday club membership... its all the same. Take from that what you will. We found the whole process stress free, friendly, no pressure and actually gained something useful from it that we can’t wait to enjoy for years to come.

Cut a long story short... we loved this resort!! The hospitality and friendliness of the staff are second to none in anywhere I’ve ever been. Special thanks to Carl, Tim, Nick, Mon, Rod, Suk (spelling?) , Cookie and Nat. Nothing was asking too much and they were always happy to help and cater to any of our requests. Nat at reception organised all our day trips for us from the pamphlets we took her, Suk prepared the most amazing wine cellar dinner for us..., Mon, Nick, Carl and Tim were awesome pool bar and restaurant hosts while Rod looked after everything culinary related for us. Cookie was great for a chat and even bought us a drink or two while we chatted about anything and everything.

The themed buffet nights were amazing (especially the Thai food lovers), the private wine cellar dinner was truly memorable, the pool was sublime, the bed HUGE, the rain shower was perfect and the spa!!.... oh, that spa!! Yes... you can get cheap massages down the road or at the beach... but this is an Ayurvedic spa.. not a beach side shack or back street spare room! The staff were truly professional, courteous and did an amazing job. We indulged in an hour Swedish massage, an Indian head massage and a 90 minute chakra balancing massage. Do yourself a favour... try it! Worth every single baht we paid!

This is one amazing resort and we enjoyed every moment. Staff and patrons were great and we made some fantastic new friends around the pool. Read the other reviews, the tips about the local eateries and shops (KOOK and the Family Mart) are all great tips. Go with an open mind and the right attitude... you’ll love it.

Oh... yes... the tv in our room was small and dated... but seriously... if this worries you... perhaps you need to ask yourself what the heck you’re doing sitting inside watching tv when you’re in a tropical paradise???

We loved our stay... can’t wait to go back again next year.

Firstly, yes we booked our stay at the resort having purchased a scoopon at a fantastic price and were advised about the 'sales pitch' following our purcahse by scoopon and were given the option to cancel with a full refund and we choose not to. We did have some inital trouble booking when we wanted, but because we could travel whenever we wanted I asked the staff to tell me when the first room that the deal was for with a double bed was available and we booked that. Once over this initial booking confusion the rest of our experience was great!

We prebooked breakfast at the reduced rate and had the resort book a car to pick us up and return us to the airport. Both tips to and from the resort where great, as were all the other taxis the resort booked for us, yes getting one yourself can be cheaper but as long as your prepared to hang on for dear life as you are hurtled through insane traffic then enjoy your cheaper rate! We enjoyed the safe taxis the resort arranged for us!

Breakfast is amazing, the range is brilliant and the coffee was fantastic as was the service! We enjoyed the 5 gems of Asia night as well! Cocktails at the pool were great fun as was the swim up bar, enjoy the luxury of the experience and dont compare it to beachside prices they are completely different experiences!

As for the salesmen, well we loved our salesman Ian, he was amazing during our stay! he popped in on us at our first breakfast on Sunday morning and we rearranged our official meeting with him as I had tours booked the day they had pencilled us in. He gave us heaps of advice on where to go and what was happening around the place, helped get us to the phuket city markets that night, which we loved, helped us get some local bearings and ideas on where to go and even helped us with shopping thanks to Kat at reception. If you want to shop in phuket for anything specific talk to Kat she is amazing and will arrange it all! We even went out on the Friday night of our stay with Ian and his girlfriend and other resort guests to a local Rawai bar at the beach and had a fantastic evening. As for the sales pitch, well we had every intention of saying no but well we signed up and will be back at the resort next year! No its not for everyone, but it was for us, just be open minded with it and honest with them straight up, it will save everyones time and effort!

Overall we loved the resort, loved the staff, loved the pool and found everyone super helpful and friendly and cant wait to go back and make it our go to resort in Phuket every year!

Room Tip: Be very clear on what you want when you book, ask questions and confirm everything! Then relax and e...
