“Sensational pool.”
Reviewed 21 June 2014

We needed a relaxing holiday and the mangosteen provided.

The rooms are beautiful and large. The beds are comfortable and big. The pool is the best I've ever seen.

We booked our stay with a our offer coupon and our stay was really cheap for a very good quality resort. There is some marketing involved with the offer but it isn't over the top. It's just informative without pressure.

Thanks for having us and will recommend you to our friends.

After a long trip from New Zealand, my wife Natalya and I were happy to reach the resort. Our first impressions were very good, nice meet & greet cocktail at reception, well presented staff, beautiful surroundings and of course the spectacular swimming pool.
The room was spacious, well appointed and with the unique outside shower, truly made for a comfortable yet special stay.
Rooms are a base of course and we were happy with the view from the windows of the sea and beyond whilst staying in excellent comfort.
The restaurant delivered up a very nice buffet selection for breakfast, with a Western / Thai mix daily, there was plenty there to satisfy all tastes. We waited to test the buffet before buying the special for the duration of our stay of seven days, The Mangosteen gratefully obliged and backdated our special to include the breakfast we had already eaten not at the special price. Nice!
There were several themes during our stay for meals and both Natalya and I enjoyed the 5 Gems of Asia, we also loved the attention given when dining at the candle lit dinner. Same same..Nice!
Another of the many features at the resort is the Ayurveda spa, my wife and I enjoyed the relaxing massage followed up by a swim in the pool.
Happy hours are a great way to meet other guests at the resort and to make new friends. With the owners of the resort often in attendance along with other staff members, not only the drinks flow freely, but so does the conversation making for a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Many were the times where other guests and ourselves stood at the pool bar chatting away about all happenings in the world and many friendships were made at these times. In fact, it is a fabulous way to break the ice with other guests, so long may it stay.
The Mangosteen offers up many events like elephant trekking, a visit to a monkey show though the highlight of our trip was the boat excursion booked through the resort to Phi Phi island. Awesome!! This is a must do and booking through the resort simplifies the process from the taxi pick up to the drop off after.
Other highlights include the weekend markets where bargains abound so is also a must do and last but by no means least are the wonderful sand filled beaches in the area, our favourite was Ngai Harn, a wonderful warm white sandy beach settled in the heart of paradise.....true bliss.
This was our first trip to Phuket and now, thanks to The Mangosteen, we will be returning back there often.
As far as recommendations go, we highly recommend The Mangosteen as a fresh, relaxing and friendly resort to stay at, all that's left to do is go and book and enjoy!

We recently stayed at the Mangosteen after a visit to HK. Perfect place to unwind and recover from stress. Excellent spa, friendly staff and beautiful location. Resort's free shuttle service to beach and marketplace appreciated and taken advantage of by guests.

Impressed that Owner/management undertake ongoing upgrades and maintenance.

We would recommend it.

Room Tip: I would not like a room which required negotiating steep and narrow steps - especially in wet weathe...

We were very pleasantly surprised on arriving in our stunning room, after a long day's travel.
The room was very spacious with the best stocked and most reasonably priced minibar we have ever seen. The room size was more like a studio apartment than a hotel room and the bathroom and amenities were excellent. The swimming pool is the crown jewel in this resort, it is simply outstanding. Breakfast was a very good standard with choices to suit everyone's taste, albeit a bit pricey. Similarly, the bar prices were on the high side, except for the Happy Hour period. In a resort of this calibre, it may be better to drop the Happy Hour and smooth the cost of the drinks throughout the day, that way people may use the facilities more, instead of waiting for the bargain time, when inferior standard drinks were clearly sold anyway. The included trips in our package, of the Elephant Trek and Monkey show were somewhat disappointing. We were the only people present and the trip very short, maybe because it was inclusive. We would have been very unhappy to have paid extra and anybody put off by chained animals should definitely avoid this one.
The spa at the resort was very good but if you shopped around locally similar treatments were available at half the price. Overall the resort staff were very friendly and always welcomed you with a smile. The downside to this were the resort 'Time Share' reps, who we fortunately managed to avoid most of the time. After a mostly enjoyable week, we were genuinely shocked on check out when told we were going to be charged for damaging the little plastic card on our room key. This developed into quite a drawn out argument and left a dark cloud over what could have been a memorable stay. Having worked in the hospitality industry we found the resort management position, over this minor detail, quite upsetting to say the least. After talking with other guests we found out that we were not the only ones to have issues when checking out. Perhaps, there needs to be a review of hotel policy in this area before it impacts on the otherwise good points of staying at this resort.

We also took advantage of a Scoupon deal at an amazing price. We had read all the reviews and I must say we were just a little concerned that we might be hounded by the guys selling holidays from the Mangosteen. We were wrong. All of the guys seemed really nice and Richard, who looked after us, was friendly, thoroughly explained the plan to us and when we explained why it wasn't for us at the moment, he wasn't pushy at all. The staff at the hotel were all very efficient and friendly and if you're looking for a romantic getaway, this is the place to go. A little tuk tuk will take you to the beach each day and I would recommend you do this. We spent many days at the beach and it was just perfect. White sand, clear water, mmmmm. I would also suggest you take the trip to Phuket Town market. Perhaps share a taxi with a few others like we did. Fabulous food and not at all like the salespeople at Patong. Everything about our week was perfect but unfortunately just a little glitch when we were leaving. Unfortunately the slippers in our room were missing and I know we left with the hotel staff thinking we had taken them. We didn't even see the slippers, let alone use them. We wanted the staff to check our bags as we were leaving and they declined, which I can understand, but that would have been the only way of showing we didn't have the slippers. Guess that will be a black mark against our name and I felt awful leaving without the issue being resolved. My only advice would be to check the inventory each day; something we didn't do. That aside, a fabulous place to stay; good food, delightful staff, fabulous views and a magnificent pool. We'd love to go back again - if we're allowed.

Thank you to each and every member of staff @ Mangosteen Resort & Ayurveda Spa for allowing us to experience Phuket hospitality and culture.
We purchased a Scoopon voucher, which provided us with superb accommodation at a heavily discounted price.
I had read several reviews about Mangosteen and could not wait to arrive..When we did..we were not disappointed.
The Reception staff were so welcoming and this really set the tone for our first Phuket journey.
Our accommodation in a Superior Garden Villa was just that..set in beautifully, lush tropical gardens. Our villa was clean and inviting..filled with everything we could need.
The pool, the Ayurveda Spa, the resort grounds, the staff and the hospitality - we really loved it all...not to mention the Happy Hrs at the pool bar, where we often socialised with other guests and made new friends.
After our chats with Lee & Mark, we were so excited & very much look forward to returning next year.
To each and every member of staff at Mangosteen, we thank you. We have long lasting, wonderful memories of our Phuket holiday. Cannot wait to meet you all again! We would would totally recommend Mangosteen to any couple looking for a relaxing, first class getaway.

We spent a week here on a 'Scoupon' deal, along with everyone else it seemed. The mix was virtually New Zealand & Australian & all from late 20's, also part of the 'deal' I think. We had a room down towards the bottom of the garden, 112, from memory. This Hotel is up hill & down dale the whole way & the steps & ramps can get really slippery when it rains so possibly not the best place for some elderly or a little disabled. On arrival we were given welcome drinks but the rooms were not going to be ready until 2pm. Most people were gathering around the pool area as a few checked in on this day, so a chance to get to know a few of the other new guests. The pool area is absolutely exquisite, lovely & clean & warm, & due to not allowing children at this time, the pool was open 24 hours. We found this super as a group would always meet at the pool around 9-10pm most nights for an update on the days outings. The rooms were lovely & large, a sitting area & the bed was up a couple of steps, they were very nice rooms, well certainly in their day, however, they are getting a little tired & definitely in need of a 'pick me up'. A lovely Fruit bowl was bought to the room & there were plates etc available, along with tea, coffee etc & a very well overstocked mini bar.....with pretty good prices. The outdoor bathroom was really neat, but again, needing a good lift. The shower was great, having a super rain shower & a hand held with lovely warm water. When we arrived we had a small problem in the bathroom but after a call to reception it was remedied immediately. The bed was very comfy, the place lovely & quiet, but one thing I really must mention, although we only get a room service every three to four days as do not find it necessary any more often, our bed linen wasn't changed, even on the 4th day. I asked about this & housekeeping came straight down to do it, but still left the old pillow cases on until I asked for them to be changed. We were in the same Industry, have travelled extensively in the past 10 years & have never found this in any other establishment, even budget hotels. Maybe this was due to the 'voucher' specials but we all felt this was just a little bit long, especially in a 4 star hotel & in these hot climates so every three days would be more acceptable. The wifi in the room was hit & miss but like I said, we were down the bottom of the garden so we realised this may have had a lot to do with it. Breakfast was quite expensive so most of us had our own breakfast in the room & evenings were spent trying out the many restaurants a short walk down the road.
Due to the Voucher special, you will be asked to attend a very informal talk on the hotel membership etc. Don't worry too much about this as it is very casual & you are not obliged to buy or sign up to anything & there is no pressure from anyone to do so.
Happy hour at the pool bar is from 3pm till 6.30pm & the prices are 'reasonable' during this time....it seems to get quite busy then. We met some great people during our stay, , & a couple of new friends to add to facebook so we certainly enjoyed our week there. It is situated about 3kms from Chalong & probably about the same to Rawai so plenty of shopping a short motorbike ride or taxi away. Also a shuttle to Nai Harn Beach a few times a day which is a lovely beach.
Would we go back?? We certainly would with low season prices.

Room Tip: Maybe not so far down the hill would be better
