“awesome secluded getaway !!”
Reviewed 6 January 2014

this place will blow you away !! Tucked away in the tropical jungle but on the waterfront with elevated rooms on the hill overlooking the ocean and bay into Nai harn beach.
The rooms are luxuriously appointed with balconies and ocean views.
The restaurant is superb with a awesome buffet breakfast daily and perfect thai food for other sittings. You can sit out on the deck overlooking the pool, tropical jungle and hillside down to the waters edge where you will find a beautiful sand beach with crystal clear water.
You can hire a motor scooter from reception and go touring Nai harn and the lookout (especially good at sunset time for its spectacular vistas and local entertainment, ... see my review on Nai Harn beach), or to nearby Rawai beach.
This resort will not dissapoint, i would go back there anytime !!

I hope my review has been of some help to you?
cheers and happy holidays !!

First, the pluses:

+Baan Krating is GORGEOUS ROMANTIC BEACHFRONT resort, with a 'private beach' that's HAS THE BEST SNORKELING with HUNDREDS of tropical fish that are so close you can touch them even in a meter of water --Bring your snorkeling gear!

+We LOVED our stay here in November. The resort customer service is great, everyone is smiling & friendly
&
the general manager is super nice also since we got a complimentary upgrade to ocean view villa as well as complimentary pickup from another nearby great bed&breakfast Baan Oui so we will come back again ensuring our customer loyalty :)

+Our room was spacious clean modern private villa like all rooms, with their own terrace & lounge chairs, with the better/deluxe villas having glass showers-

+the resort is set amidst a jungle with coconut trees & banana trees all over with beautiful tropical green landscaping

+There's a great bluff with a swing, lounge chairs, & bar also for watching the gorgeous sunsets right next to the beach

2nd, the minuses:

-The main drawback (or plus) is that it's secluded & not really within walking distance of shops & restaurants/main Nai Harn Beach, which requires about a 30 minute walk uphill
but
there are 4 daily shuttles every 2 hours until about 4pm that go back & forth between main Nai Harn beach & Baan Krating.

-Taxi fare can cost 600+ baht ($20+) going to Kata Beach so either have a car or cab fare
& it costs 200 baht by taxi to goto main Nai Harn Beach which has the closest shops, restaurants, taxi stands, & market & nearby park/carnival.

-Most of the restaurant staff though doesn't understand English though so restaurant customer service needs improvement

-There is no fitness center since most hotels/resorts in Phuket do not have a fitness center but you can get all the exercise swimming & walking in Phuket, LOL

Room Tip: Ask for the newer rooms .. bring snorkeling gear for the awesome snorkeling within a few feet of sho...

The location of this resort is its main attractiveness. It is isolated, located right on the water with its own beach. Just getting there is a thrill! Having to go through the basement of another hotel (the Royal Phuket Yacht Club) on the way makes it pretty unique too I guess! The rooms themselves are very nice and spacious we thought and the whole concept of the resort is lovely. I would call it exotic with comfort. The staff at the reception is very useful (specially Pariphat (?) who can't do anything without smiling) where all our requests were handled most satisfactorily. On the other hand the restaurant is to be avoided even for breakfast that comes free with the room! It has no taste and it's should be seen as a last resort place before dying of hunger! Too bad for the nice singer/guitarist playing lovely music at night! The televisions in the rooms date from another era and clearly demonstrate that the management of that hotel has determined that any outflow of cash would be minimized. There is no gym which in my view in this day and age is unacceptable. And to cap it all off there in no internet per se. They do sell an internet package at the restaurant but many guests we spoke to said it worked very poorly and on top of that the internet package in not refundable even if it does not work. So as one can see there are pros and cons to this place and one should go there with the right expectations. Having said that I still give it a 4-star rating because of the location and its surroundings!

This is quiet hotel located in a jungle with a small beach of its own. Spacious villas, a bit worn out but well taken care of. Staff is welcoming and efficient at assisting in any requests.
Pros: very private, quiet and beautiful, stunning sea views, snorkeling opportunities with dead but still interesting coral reef, have scooter rental
Cons: limited breakfast selection, 20-min walk to civilization and no free wifi. So rent a scooter and get local 3G.

Room Tip: All or most of rooms have sea views, but choose rooms closer to beach for better view and feel of th...

The hotel itself is very beautiful, especially arriving at night. It is on the edge of the jungle, complete with wooden bridge over a ravine to get there, and consists of lots of wooden huts, pathways, and lovely gardens which fit perfectly into the wild scenery around it.

The room we had was clean and comfortable, although despite being in a 'deluxe' room the double bed was two singles pushed together.

The main thing I would warn visitors about is that the food in the restaurant is INCREDIBLY bland. It was the worst meal we had in our whole trip to thailand. Also the cocktails tasted chemically, and were obviously came from premixed bottles (although not advertised as such). This made for a very disappointing meal despite beautiful surroundings. I would suggest walking a little way down the road and trying the restaurant next to the next hotel down (we didn't try it, but it can't be worse than the one at this hotel!).

The other downside was the fact that, despite a more expensive hotel room than the vast majority in thailand, the hotel is not at all generous. They even charged us after accepting an offer of a coconut that had fallen from one of the trees in the garden. They also take a large cut if you order a taxi through them - you can save a lot by finding one with one of the local companies yourself. Their lack of generosity stuck out like a sore thumb after staying in some other family run businesses who went out of their way to give you the best value possible for your stay.

So, all in all, this is a beautiful hotel, with lovely surroundings and a nice private beach (which looked good for snorkeling although we didn't have time to try). However, if you would rather more rustic accomodation with better food, service and value for money I would recommend going for a less commercial, more local hotel. This is perhaps good for just a night or two to enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

Located at the point of it’s own little cape, the rooms here are lovely wooden Thai chalets, each with an individual terrace, nestled in a large forest that boasts some impressive trees. Romantic and very atmospheric, especially during breakfast (pretty nice if basic) when the birds, lizards and butterflies come out. It has it’s own private little beach for those wanting even more privacy; otherwise the main Rawai beach nearby (5 minutes away by shuttle) is very nice (but can get some big swells too as we found out!); the beach has some excellent restaurants (shortly to post another review about that) and simple shops, ATMs, etc. As this beach is right at the southern end of Phuket, it can be far more relaxed than other crowded ones in the North. There is a beautiful pool between the trees (a bit cold though!) and, unusually, quite a large games room with a pool table. Has Internet. It is very quiet so excellent for R&R. A touch pricey for Phuket what with rooms starting at TBH2500 a night but worth it as reminds me of Phuket from years back.

Love love love this place. Great for couples, families with kids... Beautiful surroundings, can be as quiet as you want it to be! The property occasionally gets a bit run-down and to be honest the food isn't that great, but the staff are amazingly helpful and it is right on the beach with its own pool as well... Away from the hustle and bustle and with the jungle right beside you, you can stay there to relax or take the daily Song Theow (Pick-up with seats) trips into Naiharn beach - close to many restaurants and shops. We were greeted this time with a complimentary upgrade to the beachfront villas, presumably because we have been so many times, and the view was just stunning... slept to the sounds of the sea, and made hot coffee in our rooms in the morning to watch the sunrise... I'd love to still be there right now!!!

Room Tip: The front rooms are great - beachfront - there are new tours from China going through nearly daily i...
