“Lovely, Lovely Kingsacre”
Reviewed 17 May 2013

I don’t normally write reviews (this is only my second in 8 years) but I’ve been moved to do so by my experience of KingsAcre.

At the end of our recent travels, my wife and I had 6 nights to spend in Phuket and after a lot of searching came across Kingsacre. The pictures and reviews looked great so we emailed them and got a response within the hour confirming availability.

On arrival we were greeted with cold drinks and enjoyable conversation with the owners Glen and Christine, who were quick to discern that we were looking for a romantic getaway and so choose to set us up in the lovely Dragonfly villa.

Hidden in the corner of the property surrounded by palms and small trees, the one bed Dragonfly villa was everything we could have asked for: King size bed, Egyptian cotton sheets, flat screen TV, fridge, ceiling fan, air-conditioning, huge wardrobe, desk and chair, even a giant bottled water dispenser.

At the front of the villa we had our own private patio with wooden table and chairs, comfy cushions, another ceiling fan, mosquito catcher and even a clothes rack provided. A great spot to appreciate their lovely garden, filled with orchids, mango trees, palm trees and visited daily by local birds bathing in the water features (and if you look closely you may see the colourful fighting fish just below the surface).

Due to the thoughtful way Glen and Christine had landscaped the garden, we were able to sit outside our villa in complete privacy whilst being only a few steps from their lovely pool area.

We had two sun lounges with padded mattresses waiting by the pool every day for our exclusive use. The over-hanging palm trees provided natural shade and with the giant adjustable umbrellas we were always able to easily control the balance of shade for me and sunshine for my wife. The pool is just deep enough and long enough to enjoy a few laps, under the watchful eye of their Lion Statue water feature.

Location wise was perfect for us, literally a 2 minute walk (past the super friendly local children) to the local shops and stalls for lunch, and a pleasant 15 minute stroll down to the beach, shops, restaurants and bars in the evening (and just a 10 minute drive to the airport).

A special mention for Christine’s fruit salads and Glen’s cooked breakfast each morning – Best Omelette Ever! Definitely on our list of places to visit again and we’d strongly recommend Kingsacre for couples and small groups of friends.

Room Tip: All three villas are lovely but you'll get a little more privacy in Dragonfly Villa.

Glen & Chris can be really proud of what they have created at Kinsgacre. The accomodation is in bright and airy mini villas around the lovely garden and pool - definately not to be confused with the usual Thai bungalow experience.

The bedroom and bathrooms are large and well appointed with quality linen & towels. There is an outside seating area which is private thanks to the well thought out landscaping.

The local bars, restaurants and beach are within an easy level walk. We liked the town very much including the close by natural national park areas.

Overal this is a very civilised & peaceful place to stay.

A big thank you to Glen and Christine for arranging our fabulous stay at their villas.

A great location only 10 mins from Phuket airport and a little oasis set in fantastic gardens and a peaceful place for a complete chill out holiday.

Nothing is too much trouble and Glen can arrange trips, car hire or scooter hire and all arrangements are arranged without fuss.

The accomodation is fantastic and in excellent order and very secluded as there are only 3 villas (2 connected for families).

A big tick from us and well worth a visit.

If you are looking for a secluded, quiet residence with only three bungalows in a wonderful tropical garden incl. pool, this is the place to be. At the same time beach and restaurants are just a short stroll away. Glen and Christine, your hosts, live here for more than a decade and will gladly support you to realize your trips/plans on Phuket at very reasonable prices. Everything is managed with a mix of European thoroughness and Thai serenity. So the location and its privacy is an ideal place for couples (not necessarily children) to lean back and relax.

The other reviews of this tranquil spot in beautiful gardens are all true and, after our third stay at Kingsacre, we felt it was time to put laziness aside and post a review of our own.

Kingsacre is close to the airport, but the planes do not come overhead and it is not something we noticed at all. And it is very handy for Glen’s included arrival and departure transfers.

Chris and Glen extend a wonderful welcome, overshadowed only by Tam the gorgeous dog with the hairstyle and walking wiggle that many women would kill for!

Of the 3 attractive villas available, we have stayed in No 1 (separate from semi-detached villas 2 and 3), so with a little more privacy and No 2, and have loved them both – very spacious, lots of amenities, including free wifi, (bit erratic at times), satellite tv, DVD player and boiling/freezing cold drinking water system, with nice bathrooms. This year it was No 2 and came with the added benefit of some lovely neighbours, David and Margaret (see review below) from Worcester. Our leisure time by the wonderful pool surrounded by orchids, beautiful flowers, shrubs and trees - and where there is no need to reserve your sunbed - was only improved this year by David’s daily poolside questions session (mainly answered by Google – or Glen if they were about music), which we came to look forward to very much.

Whichever villa you select, you can be sure that Chris’s housekeeping skills mean your bedroom/bathroom will be immaculately clean and regularly serviced, with new linen and towels every few days. There are beachtowels, too, perfect for the wooden loungers with their comfortable mattresse, which are laid out each day for you in your own spot by the poolboy..

Glen’s breakfasts have come on a long way since he hit the stove a couple of years ago and have now reached perfection – superb omelettes in particular. Chris prepares a lovely selection of fruit for you each morning and you can help yourself to cereal, toast, juice and tea/coffee. A limited lunch menu is available from 12pm-4pm, so you need never leave this oasis . . . well, not until dinner when nearby Nai Yang beach calls you, with obligatory stop off at the Cave Bar, situated at the turn into the road leading to Kingsacre.

In previous years, my husband mentioned that he missed having an in-room safe for passports, cash etc, and this year we arrived to find them installed. And this is another thing that is good about Chris and Glen, they are ready to listen to gripes, ideas/suggestions and act where they can. Another surprise this year was the new entrance way – which has given Glen the added job of regularly mowing the lovely green grass that borders the new road up to the front gates. Well worth the effort.

So would it suit everyone? Almost . . . Perhaps it is not for families with young children as it is more of a chill-out location (and I appreciate that I might be a bit biased as the peacefulness here is one of the special features that brings us back).

And perhaps it is not suitable for those seeking total privacy – the 3 villas share the pool and Chris and Glen live on site, it’s their home, and so are a daily part of your stay as they care for you and their home/garden. Some people don’t want that kind of relationship when they are on holiday, but we like that interaction, the chance to dip into their lives and enjoy Glen’s wide-ranging music selection (!) and also meeting other guests who may be staying . . . and you can always retreat to your private terrace, well-equipped with wooden tables and chairs, ceiling fan, clothes drier and electric fly killer (marvellous idea). Or there is the beach, a short walk away with a good selection of restaurants and bars (we particularly enjoyed Fiesta restaurant this year) and where you can hire sunbeds and parasols cheaply, on a beach that has pretty much kept its natural feel, offering beautiful white sand and warm, turquoise sea.

We plan to return (if Chris, Glen and Tam will let us) and hope that David and Margaret will be there, too. Kingsacre is the diamond in Phuket’s crown and so should be a carefully guarded secret – oops!

Room Tip: They are all good

We've stayed at Kingscare many times and not once has it let us down. If your looking for a chilled out peaceful holiday with a large airy room and stunningly beautiful gardens and pool this is the place for you. Everywhere you look there are flowers. There are only three villas so you get a personnel experience which the big hotels just can't offer.

Rooms have air-con (very quick and effective) ceiling fan, fridge, hot and cold drinking water on demand and plenty of wardrobe/draw space. The bathrooms are also large and there's plenty of shelf space.

Kingsacre is about a 10-12 minute stroll to the beach up a well lit road so it's easy to get to all the local bars and restaurants by foot and Christine and Glen, the owners, can make reccommendations if your new to the island.

Don't let the fact that Kingsacre is only a 10 minute drive form the airport put you off. You honestly can't hear any aircraft. They don't fly directly over head so you can't even see them.

I can't imagine someone going to Kingsacre and not being totally relaxed. I highly recommend Kingsacre!

Room Tip: The biggest room is villa 1 and it's slightly set away from the other two so it's a bit more...

We had a wonderful 3 week stay in villa 3 in January 2013. Any review cannot do justice to this idyllic hidden jem in Nai Yang. Glen & Christine have created a haven of tranquility in all aspects. Thank you both (and Tam ), we cannot wait to return. David & Margaret.

Room Tip: All 3 villas are excellent.
