We stayed in Amanpuri between 28 Jan-04 Feb 2013 with my husband. In fact, this was our second stay (we had also spent our honeymoon 2 years ago).
There is nothing to be said for Amanpuri except that it is the paradise on earth!
When we arrived, we were greeted by the hotel staff as well as the hotel manager as usual. We had an upgrade to a partial ocean view garden pavillion and were were taken to our room for check-in where we found a bottle of champagne waiting for us. The rooms are wonderful in my opinion as they are built in a comptemporary yet very traditional Thai style, perfect for a mind-body detox after the hectic city life. One thing that I want to emphasize about Amanpuri is that probably this hotel has the most beautiful beach in Thailand. For me, the quality of the beach and the water is more important than anything when I choose a hotel. Amanpuri's white beach is encircled by coconot trees and you have such a privacy that you think that your spouse closed down the beach just for you:) The water is azure and there are no rocks or anything in the sea. It is pure sand!!!! So even when there is a tide, you still enjoy the wonderful waters and enjoy the view of the hotel from the sea. Also as for Thailand, in some beaches, you can walk and walk for miles in the water but you can't swim as the water is still shallow. In this beach, for those who like swimming, the water gets deep easily off the shore. They have a floating deck in the middle of the sea where you can watch the views and the colorful fish in the sea. They even have towels and cold water on this deck for those who are tired of swimming. The service is flawless. On the beach, they ask you whether you want to have shadow or not and they position the umbrellas accordingly. They change the position of umbrellas throughout the day and when you are out of water, you find that they cleaned or changed your towels in the case that there was sand on them. We have tried all the restaurants on the hotel. All the restaurants including the Thai, the beach and the Japanese were wonderful. We loved the tuna-yellowtale sashimi in the Japanese and the mix curry plate in the Thai. We also had the beach barbecue which was a bit pricy but we enjoyed the ambiance. Try the detox juice in the breakfast as well as passion caipirinha in the afternoon. We also asked the hotel for other dining options outside the hotel and their advice turned out to be real good! I have tried the spa for a couple of times. In the spa, you get to have your own pavillion for the massages and the oriental massage was wonderful I have also suprised my husband for a massage in our room which they organised easily. On our last day, they also helped us with a new room as we had late check out but I think this depends on the availability in the hotel. As a summary, we had once again the holiday of our lifetime in Amanpuri. We can't wait to go back again!
