“a hidden gem”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 March 2013

my girlfriend and i stayed here for the sole purpose that it was close to the marina to do the hong by starlight (you must do this tour). and it didnt disappoint. lovely entrance and were given a drink on arrival and sat admiring the views from the lobby whilst room was being cleaned. a little outdated and needs a lick of paint on the outside, very much out of the way but coming to asia i wanted some seclusion. nice sized room and stunning views of the ocean from most of the rooms. didn't get to eat here at night but loved the pool and looking out to sea will be a great memory of our trip. staff great , our adapter broke and they provided one in minutes and catered to our every need with a smile on their face, which i hear doesn't happen often in asia! also helped us when we had issue with tour, ringing them for our pick up. decent breakfast with a good range of grub. all in all a very pleasant stay and would recommend it to anyone. proper comfy beds too!

This hotel cost us about $113 per night, and for what you get this is a bargain. Staff were very pleasant, breakfast good and a free courtesy bus to Phuket town. (Why anyone would want to go there is beyond me). It is in the sticks but the restaurant is not overpriced like lots of resorts. Te only thing this hotel needs is a coat of paint on the outside, our room was recently refurbishe

I'd like to be accommodating, ill give a bit of leeway but here I can't find too much to rave about. Ok decent beds sheets and shower pressure but that's it. Staff are generally unhelpful. The big thing is that you're stuck here, what should be a free shuttle to the bottom of the hill is 200baht roundtrip and the only attraction is the 7-11 which is 2km away. Having a hire car would be a big help here but ordering one from reception turned into frustrating exercise. The hill is not walkable. Recommended only to those who don't want to see Phuket and who only want to stay in bed. It says 24 hour room service and free Internet - but don't bet on getting either. Decent pool but limited shade. You do not experience anything of Thailand here.

We chose this hotel because of its location but had hired a car for the nine days we were there so were able to explore the rest of the island. The beach below the hotel was littered with debris and not really in use, but this coast is mainly mangrove lined and not sandy. Lovely swimming pools, fantastic views and friendly staff. We booked a 'grand de-luxe sea view'; the view was stunning but noise from the adjacent block housing ventilation units from the kitchens was deafening if standing on the balcony. Ok inside as the air con was loud enough to mask the noise. Rooms are nice perhaps a little 'jaded', bit of maintenance needed in the bathroom. Hotel restaurant is good and sitting outside with that view takes some beating. Breakfast average and aimed more at the Chinese and Russian guests. Tour groups arriving and departing at all hours were noisy.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms 225 and 325 as adjacent to noisy kitchen ventilation/boiler room

The Supalai is located away from a lot of things, one should be clear on that. It's the side of Phuket where nothing really happens, especially in low season. However if you need somewhere to stay in this area because it's close to something you want to do (for me it was a SunSail course) it is a very friendly hotel with good rooms and services. We had a fantastic experience where the staff let us join in an annual religious celebration for the hotel, and really went the extra mile to make us feel welcome. Was happy with the room and the restaurant dinners were great - breakfast can be skipped. Amazing view, and try the Thai massage! :)

I found the location very attractive since:
- The view is amazing: a beach with an island and the blue sea... no buildings in front hiding the nature.
- Have two good pools.
- I am the type of travelers who hate the places overcrowded of tourist where you have to fight for a table, here the noisy neighbors, pushy street sellers and travel hundreds of miles just to have an attractive western franchise as main attraction (which is what happens on Patong).

Anyway the hotel have some cons:
- The employees are very helpful but they low level on english makes them mix orders or just give up on help you.
- The beach in front is not for swimming (have no sand, just a weird hot mud very sticky)
- If you try to use taxis is very expensive: over 600 Baths

I read reviews about the distance saying that the location is not good but for me is a mixed feeling. If you behave as a simple tourist you will try to look for travel agencies all the time (which will charge you and additional price for pick you up from a "far distance", according to them. prices can be between 400 to 600 baths additionally to the booked tour or service... i'm including here some spas who offer to pick you up form the hotel) and use taxis... in both cases you will expend a fortune, but if you think as traveler, maybe you already know that as in the case of Phuket and in some cases even Bangkok, is better to rent a car for a complete day. 08 hours cost an average of 3,000 baths and you can use it to go all over the island (literally). Actually the hotel have a plus with this idea, the price is cheaper than even some car rental companies: 2.600 (aprox) Baths and you can negotiate with the driver if you need extra hours.
So at the end, the location of the hotel is not necessarily bad. Take also in count that in general terms, the transport is a major issue in Phuket (is hard to find taxis) so is super convenient to rent a car for a day, half day or even hours because is cheaper than taxis.

Room Tip: From my point of view the best option is the SUPER DELUXE SEAVIEW (have a nice terrace where you can...

I had a mixed experience at the Supalai.

The view from the reception area, the rooms and the pool is superb. Overlooking a lovely bay with turquoise water. The staff are helpful, rooms are clean, well appointed and a reasonable size. The two pools are beautiful and beckon your attention.

I visited with a small group in early September and it was eerily quiet. I think this changed on the day of my departure with the arrival of 3 large buses of guests. Unfortunately we had a very limited range of drinks (beer and soft drinks) for our evening meal as the bartender had gone home.

The hotel is isolated and I don't thing there is much you can do outside of the resort without getting in a taxi. This didn't bother me as I was only over nighting and if you just wanted to chill it would be perfect.
