We have stayed at the BT 5 times out of the past 7 years. Each time, Saffron is our big night out. It has the best massaman curry either of us have eaten and the service is unobtrusive, polite and professional. A word of warning though - avoid being seated near spoilt expat families.

We dined at Saffron twice during our stay at the Banyan Tree - on the first night and the last night. The atmosphere was different on each night - quiet on the first night, busy on the second. The staff remembered us the second time around and treated us like royalty.

Service is 5-star, which goes along with the 5-star price (which you expect while staying at the Banyan Tree). Food was OUT OF THIS WORLD. Best Thai food I've ever tasted.

They also brought out a complimentary appetiser and dessert which we really enjoyed.

We had the satays (chicken and beef), pad thai with shrimp and the chicken with cashew nuts.

Don't miss this fine Thai restaurant if you are staying in the Laguna complex!

Dear madsin,

Thank you for your review of Saffron restaurant, I am pleased you found both visits memorable, and the level of service given by our associates worthy of a 5 star resort. We do take all comments made by our guests and diners seriously and strive to improve our culinary product to a level above and beyond expectations for a recognized 5 star standard. I am the first to admit we don’t always achieve this level but it is our target and these comments help us to become more consistent with our product and increase the level of guest satisfaction.

I hope to see you again in the near future and hopefully we can raise above even these two experiences and validate your comments. Once again thank you for your words and the time you took to write this.

Everything about this restuarant is excellent. From the moment you are greeted at the door to the moment you leave you are treated as special. Food excellent. Ambience excellent. Service excellent. Cost, considering what you are getting very reasonable. Dress standard is smart casual, please no thongs, singlets or boardies!

Staff were very attentive and friendly, although we did have to wait a while for our bill (as they got quite busy).
Food was delicious, and although the prices would be classed as expensive in Thailand you would pay double for this quality food in Australia.
Would highly recommend the appetiser platter (yum!!) and banana blossom salad. They also wheel a trolley over with 4 choices of rice- the organic brown rice was lovely. Make sure you leave room for dessert!!

Dear MacMol,

We appreciate your comments and I will certainly pass on your praise to the associates in both the service and kitchen departments. We do try our best to ensure each guest is taken care of equally and attentively, our cooks are well trained and we have a corporate Thai chef who ensures the menus and the flavours are true to there origins.

I hope you will return and allow us to pamper you once more in the furture, until then we wish you all the best.

We had a nice meal at a not-outrageous price (compared to other high end restaurants in the area) (THB 3,500 for two with mains, shared starter and some cocktails). Beware water prices, as others have advised. One thing that seriously let it down was the number of people very casually dressed (shorts and flip flops) and with multiple kids/buggies in tow. The children were generally well behaved, but still noisy and running around. This is an expensive restaurant at 9pm, but the atmosphere was more like lunchtime at Pizza Hut.

Dear craig_2159,

Thank you for taking the time to write this review, we do take all our guests comments seriously and as such I have taken a closer look at your comment regarding our water prices. Our prices range depending on your choice of water, brands such as Voss obviously sell at a high price than say an Evian or a Minere water but when comparing with other properties we are the same and in some cases cheaper.

Our dress code in our outlets is constantly being reviewed due to the changes in the current markets, our dress code is reflective of that and we as a Banyan Tree maintain a minimum standard. At the request of the majority of our patrons, our Saffron Restaurant observes a Smart Casual Dress Code.
- No flip-flops, no athletic apparel, no torn clothing and no backpacks.
- Long trousers, closed shoes and no sleeveless tops for Gentlemen. For Ladies, no denim shorts.

Unfortunately there may be times where as you mentioned there are guests that have booked but were unaware of the dress code and are unable to return to their accommodation to change their clothing, in such cases we make an exception.

With regards to children, a lot of our return guests came here originally as couples, these days they come as families, and we at Banyan Tree have accepted the change and the challenges that come with that, we also accept that not everyone will be happy with our current policies but we do try to address all concerns and be fair to all our guests equally.

I hope the replies I have given and the positive experiences you had during your stay were enough for you to want to return as we would love to welcome you back. I am sorry for the length of this reply but felt it fair to address each of your concerns thoughtfully and carefully, in full.

Best regards,
David Hamilton
