UDON STAR PALACE HOTEL - UNCUT DIAMOND
This was my second visit to Udon Thani (NE Thailand) in province renown throughout Thailand as Essan. The first time I went to that city I stayed at the Centara Hotel which was ok but not particularly impressive so this time I searched the internet and found a very remarkable hotel called the Udon Star Palace Hotel.
I call this place ‘The Uncut Diamond’ for a good reason. From the outside, the hotel does not seem very notable but when you enter the place you find an amazing array of antique and classic: pictures, artefacts and model cars and ships. The owner is a French man called Glio, he travels the world to collect rare items to adorn his hotel as well as using his artistic talent to make some extraordinary chandeliers that adorn the reception area of the hotel.
Glio is fortunate to have a beautiful, friendly, soft-spoken wife called Cindy who manages the hotel and makes you feel warm and fussy the moment you meet her. I love her French-Thai accent, quite rare for my experience, but particularly her warm, pleasant and relaxed approach to dealing with her patrons. The staffs there called Nutch, Pa, and another very peasant young lady, are very capable, caring and friendly; moreover, they can never do enough for you.
The newly renovated interior design of the hotel has a French ambience with predominately black and red colour scheme. The rooms are spacious especially rooms 12 and 15 which are 75 sqm with unusual chic furnishing and fittings. I stayed in room 12 which was on the top floor with its own staircase that made it seem like a penthouse apartment. The flat screen TV is huge as is the bed and the view through the sound-proof floor to ceiling windows that conveniently overlook the main strip of bars, restaurants and the Central Plaza. The room has a lounge/dining area in front of the windows and 2 modern couches that open up into double beds in their own private guest/bar space inside the apartment at the top of the apartment’s staircase. The apartment also has a swinging suspended wicker chair, floor to ceiling mirrors, classic paintings and murals, electric mosquito killer, very unusual bathroom fittings/accessories and solid granite floors.
I returned to Udon Thani a second time just one week later purely because I wanted to stay at the Udon Star Palace again for a 4 day romantic holiday with my lady. I highly recommend this hotel because of its unique and memorable design/décor, the wonderful staff, Cindy the outstanding and beautiful manager as well as the hotel’s central location and walking distance to everything the town has available for tourists. The hotel only has 15 rooms so you can be assured of receiving personal and special hospitality as was afforded to me and my partner.

Room Tip: Rooms 12 and 15 are most desirable being the largest rooms with the best views.

Oct 14,15,16 Udon Star Hotel
This is the best hotel for location, activities, shopping, walking, bars, markets, Thai Massage all located within easy walking distance. The Clock Tower, Fountain and other I walked to regularly and you may take public transportation easily. The BKK bus station is close and the Chiang Mai bus stop is 5Km away of which the Udon Star Hotel drove me. The room and hotel have great personalities throughout along with soundproof windows, comfortable bed, nice marble bathroom, a mini kitchen bar with a sink and instant hot water heater. There is a basic gym with treadmill, and other stations along with a pool table and nice little bar coffee shop where you sit and look out as there is a lot to see in motion. I stayed three nights instead of one as this hotel was most comfortable. The breakfast was fine and got me going as they made the omelet vegetarian if that is possible with eggs. Coffee is ground fresh. Someone spoke English there night and day. This hotel worked out most well. Please see the PICs for details. Tom USA near US

Room Tip: I asked for the room highest up. The room was on the street with soundproof windows and the view was...

This is not a hotel as we know it, rather a pub with sleeping facilities. No elevator, weird decorations and rooms are badly furnished. Pictures on website are deceitful. Half the night and morning no running water on the fourth flour. Noisy neighbourhood, redlightdistrict of Udon Thani. We wonder how on earth this hotel was able to score so high on the reviews, because we would not recommend it to anyone.

Room Tip: Paya bit more and book the Centara hotel, just around the corner.

udon star hotel udon thani - 800baht (850 with breakfast) friendly staff, clean and very large rooms, pool table on second floor, near to downtown, guillaume is french owner and very helpful, stayed four nights before heading to vientiane, hotel definitely has character, close to UD town which is a must but starts in the evening only, beside the train station and close to bus station too, laundry service affordable though not as cheap as the local laundromat, room stocked with many essentials in case you need a toothbrush paste condoms etc., rooms come equipped with large mirrors which are a bonus if youre travelling as a couple or find some company for the night, good air conditioning and large ceiling fan, pillows are very comfortable and bed too, wifi is free and works very well, big windows look out onto the bars below down the soi (smaller road), leather arm chairs, decorated in 70s style with chinese and thai overtones, concrete floors make it best to leave on socks or even shoes unlike all other thai places where its considered proper to leave shoes at the door, washrooms come with a bathtub, fridges stocked with few kinds of imported beer, perrier and other cocktails, pool table and gym add to the value, i would definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone wishing to be close to the heart of the udon city.

Room Tip: stay upstairs on the second or third floor!

Pleasant stay here. Staff very quick to help. Spacious rooms.....comfortable bed. Did not have the breakfast in the morning but at half the price of the Centara and Pennarai this place is impressive. Great location and quiet.

Room Tip: No lift so low floor perhaps preferable if lots of luggage

Had a short stay at the Udon Star Palace and a very pleasant stay in this unusual Boutique Hotel that reminded my very much of a similar hotel in Bangkok. Bare concrete floors, with art décor fittings and paintings make this hotel very unique. Mirrors add to the surrounds. The owner and all of his staff make your stay as pleasant as any hotel I have stayed in all over the world. Nothing is too much trouble for them to assist you. I had only 1 issue which I have scored a little lower, and that refers to my sleep quality. I wish to advise you, this was NO fault of this hotel, it was my own personal problem. Having arrived from Bangkok that day, I was unwell, tired, maybe over tired, and found a problem sleeping on the first night. The bed was extremely comfortable but the size of the rooms blew me away. Room safe was secure. Free breakfast in the morning provided is fairly basic but tasty. One cannot expect a gourmet breakfast in a hotel of this size. I personally thank the owner and especially the staff for making my stay pleasant. Rating 9/10

Room Tip: Little Italian Restaurant just down the road about 70 mtrs. Excellent

Very good location. Mall, GYM, many different foods all within walking distance. Quite and relaxing stay. I was not able to locate my weight lifting belt while there and the staff including the manager went out of their way to locate it for me. THANK YOU EVERY MUCH!!! They found it at the gym that I had workout at in the morning. This meant so very much to me!

I stayed in the mirror room, and will stay there again when I return to Udorn.

Great FREE breakfast in the morning.

Room Tip: If your into this sort of thing---- The mirror room was OUTSTANDING!
