“One of the nicer hotels in Udon Thani.”
Reviewed 13 June 2011

Having stayed in several different hotels in Udon Thani, I'd have to say that The Prajaktra Design Hotel is one of the nicer hotels in the city. While far from perfect, and perpetually unfinished, the Prajaktra is a clean and stylish alternative to the many terrible hotels in Udon Thani.

Last year I did also stay at this new hotel and at that time it was far from finished. And although there is still no swimming pool (but they told me when I made a reservation) there are improvements like the buffet breakfast has improved much, the rooftop restaurant & bar has improved and in the "standard" room we had everything was working like it should be and the room was comleted (finished). The WIFI was working good.

Still the rooms are not worth the walk-inn price they say at the front-desk (not that I did pay that of course)

Stayed here for 2 days at the end of March in a Superior room and agree with the last reviewer...the floor plan and layout of the rooms are terrible. There is no separate bathroom as the shower (using frosted glass enclosure) and sink are right in the room next to the bed. Thankfully there is a door to a separate toilet area but it also has a frosted glass bi fold door. They have a raised bowl sink in the middle of the room so there's no mirror over the sink....which makes shaving a real pain in the morning!

The pool across the drive from the hotel probably will never be finished. It's in the concrete block/unfinished concrete stage and doesn't look like any work has been performed on it for quite some time. Due to rain we didn't get to use the upstairs restaurant and just did room service. the food and service was good and also found the lobby staff to be pleasant.

Even though the hotel is soon having their 1 year anniversary, walking round the hotel you still see a lot of unfinished detailing (missing door trim, rough exposed tile to carpet transitions etc).

The hotel is not worth the money and definitely won't be staying there again.

I have stayed at 3 different "upscale" (as you can get in Udon) hotels in the past year. Prajaktra is not worth the price. It's a new hotel with modern design but GREATLY lacks practical thinking for a hotel.

1) Their rooms do not have toilet paper, instead they give one ply square napkins.
2) There is no privacy inside the room, as the shower is inside the general sleeping area. Do not stay with anyone in this hotel who you are not accustom to seeing naked. Also with our particular room, the window opens up directly to the elevator walkway, so we had to choose between being in a windowless room, or letting anyone who passed by see us sleep in bed (or showering)
3) The staff was very rude and uptight. The website clearly states free transportation to the mall, but when inquired about it the receptionist made me feel like we needed to pay for a tuk tuk.
4) The sink is in such a way that it cannot be used for brushing your teeth without getting water outside the basin area and all over the counter top. Also toilet seat did not cover the entire bottom of the toilet, so sitting on requires touching where pee lands
5) Breakfast wasn't worth waking up for.
6) The room was noisy, as there was a banquet upstairs
7) There is nothing to do in the area except for the lake. It is far from the main area of Udon.
8) Internet is slow, and I ended up using my mobile/3g connection instead.
9) Mattress is hard, pillows are ok

One positive tho is the 4th floor bar is very pretty over looking the lake

We stayed 4 nights at this hotel and are repeat visitors. We chose this hotel because it is fairly new and have previously stayed at the Centara Hotel in Udon Thani (which has gone down hill in terms of service and quality of the rooms). We found the staff at Prajaktra Design Hotel to be terrific, helpful, and pleasant. The WiFi is good and the TV as well. We were disappointed that the hotel pool is not yet completed and under construction after a year. The restaurant and coffee shop is very nice as is the breakfast buffet. While the don't post a sign in the morning, you can order your eggs cooked to order as well as request an omelet as part of the breakfast benefit. We recommend this hotel if you are traveling to Udon Thani as it provides great value, comfort, and service. While it is not in the immediate downtown area, it is across from a beautiful park which is handy for exercise.

This is meant to be a new hotel, but you would not know it! The quality of the materials and finishing in the rooms was beyond terrible that it already looked years old (probably why room was so dark too). It reminded me of student accommodation, albeit roomy with nice wooden floors (only positive i can think of)

I wish I had taken some pictures, so funny was some of the mistakes (e.g. huge paint drips, missing beading, terrible grouting). It looks like they were in a big rush to finish the job, but I think it will ultimately back-fire. It is being advertised as an upmarket 'design' hotel with prices to match. However, the prices can no way be justified.

There was a wedding at the hotel, so we were sidelined at dinner into a very sterile, basic room, which was basically a foyer to the noisy (as weddngs usually are) wedding. We felt in the way so changed to room service. Food was OK.

Next day, breakfast was laid out in the hotel lobby (dunno why did not use restaurant). The main door was open and there was a lot of flies around the buffet brefast. Quality was average.

We booked out 2 days early (manager did not even ask why, probably used to it!) and went to Charoen hotel (would have booked out first night but all hotels in area full), which was better but pretty old and tired. Only decent hotel in Udon Thani appeared to be Centara but even this is in desparate need of renovation. Definitely a gap in the market as all main hotels were full but none very good. Udon Thani is nice place though.

This hotel is very new and comes with comfort. A bit far from city center (UD Town, Central Plaza ~ 3-4 km away.) No supermarket or convenience store near by but hotel's restaurant is not too bad (Price for food start from 100++) Got a nice balcony for dining at 4th floor which can see the view of the lake at front of the hotel. In Dec 2010 fitness center and pool are not yet available, for those gym addicted you can run around the Prajak Lake in the morning-evening. Free Wifi in lobby and in room but not in good signal.
