Love this island and Boldt castle. We spend about 4 hours on the Island.
About 10 minutes boat ride from Alexandria Bay. Castle by itself is beautiful and story about owner's family interesting and the sad
You can see pictures on my site pwbypeter
I recommend to visit the castle.

Coming back from Toronto and needed to find something to break up the drive. What a break. Wow. Except for the rooms on the first and second floor that have been redone everything else is barren. Which considering the story is perfect. It provides the opportunity to reflect and use your imagination.

Note- support the restoration efforts by going to the Boldt Yacht House. You can buy a combo ticket that allows you to tour the boat house with some cool boats and the captains house which is a gem in itself.

BUT it also includes a shuttle ferry to the castle and admission to the castle.

Gorgeous castle and grounds. They are in the process of completing/restoring the buildings and they are doing a phenomenal job. There is so much to see on the island between the castle, the tower, and the powerhouse and the beautiful grounds. Looks like something out of a fairytale. I recommend packing some food and bringing it with you to have lunch. They have snacks available on the island, but nothing substantial. There are plenty of areas to sit and have a picnic though. There is also a small gift shop. Everyone working there was very friendly and helpful. Plenty of great photo opportunities. Make sure you also catch the ferry over to the yacht house. The package deal is well worth it.

Every year I pop over to the castle and spend a few hours wandering around, taking photos, seeing what improvements they have done to it since my last visit. This is an ongoing project, to bring it to a state that they figure George Boldt would have, had he completed the home built for his wife, stopped unexpectedly when she died. The first floor is pretty much restored and they are still working on the second floor however the main bedrooms are set up beautifully. Up another level and you can still see the graffiti that adorn the walls from the years of abandonment before the site was taken over and restoration was begun. A perfect stop while in the 1,000 Islands.

From the time you leave the docks in Alexandria Bay on the Uncle Sam boat tour or whichever boat of choice Boldt Castle is within sight. There is several boat tours you can pick from according to your lickings. We did the millionaire row where your tour guide gives you all the info on the islands as you pass by, it is amazing who owns them. George C. Boldt, built the castle for his wife Louise on Heart Island in the 1000 Islands on the Saint Lawrence River. The castle has made Alexandria Bay one of the number one places to visit in NY. Once the ice has broke from the cold hard winters the season opens for visitors from all over the world. Many school trips, wedding, wine festivals, family outing will gaze their eyes on such beauty of this castle this summer and summers to come. There is so construction presently being done but for a structure so big and elegant I am sure the revitalization is never completed. They have a couple for gift shops on the island so don't forget a souvenir and 1000 island dressing for your next salad. It was my daughters birthday so when we docked we ate at Riley's on the river it was so good and with a beautiful view.
