“Great Job on the renovations”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 June 2014

I have to say we were pleasantly surprised when we stayed over the weekend! To be honest we stayed at this hotel 3 years ago before it was bought by Capt Thompson and it was fine then, but needed some renovations. We could not believe our eyes when we pulled up to the 2 story house. Before it looked like it was ready to fall down and now it is so nice! The rooms are neat and clean with very comfy beds and a fridge in every room. They put on new siding and railings and new decking/windows. We had a nice talk with the manager Fred who is a great guy and very hard worker! The staff was also very friendly!

The pool was closed for repairs due to damage from our extremely bad winter, but they offered us the opportunity to swim at their other resort.

If I had one thing to say that was negative, its the fact that they don't have coffee in the room and I really like it in the morning. Please check this hotel out, you won't be disappointed.

The Capt's Inn offers almost everything a weary traveller needs. The rooms are clean, comfortable and relatively spacious. However, shower pressure leaves a lot to be desired and, if you're a little uncomfortable overhearing your neighbour's conversations (and intimate moments) you may be better off elsewhere. It would be nice to have a coffee machine, but a fridge is provided. Parking is easy and you're close to downtown (not walking distance for most guests though). There's a good, plain diner linked to the Inn. Dishes are tasty and the service is great. They open at 6 am for early risers who need their Java shot. Pricing is lower than most local competitors. I'd use this Inn again.

Room Tip: Get an end room to reduce the neighbour noise.

Overall my stay at this motel was very good. The room was clean, it was nice to have a mini-fridge, it is close to downtown, and the front desk staff was very friendly. The only down side was the shower was very small, and there is no sound insulation between rooms. If you are planning a night of passion, as the individuals in the room next to ours were, remember, everyone can hear everything.

If you are looking for a clean comfortable place to stay while visiting the 1000 Islands, Capt's is the perfect choice. The staff was incredibly friendly and did everything to make our stay enjoyable. We all decided we will use this facility every year for our annual trip!

I was pleasantly surprised with this motel. The renovations they've been doing have made this place very nice. I liked having a room with a deck, very very comfortable bed, nice pool! I wouldn't have minded if it were located in the town itself but it was still convenient. I considered staying a 2nd night just because how nice it was.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a deck.

We stayed at Capt.'s Inn & Suites Labor day weekend. This place was great. The rooms were clean and looked new. The pool was refreshing and right next door is North Star Restaurant for breakfast. It's easy to walk to the heart of Alexandria Bay on James St. I would highly recommend this as a perfect getaway weekend.

We stayed in one of the small rooms with a king sized bed. It was apparent that the room (and much of the motel) was recently renovated (and renovations are still underway). The staff was friendly and accommodating, the room was clean, and the cost of the room was reasonable. It also is one of the few hotels in the area with a pool (not heated, but clean). However, this was very basic lodging. No breakfast (though there is a diner right across the parking lot), no phone in the room (but free wi-fi), very small shower stall, very small room, and it is a bit of a walk from the downtown attractions (about a 10-15 minute walk, but right across the street from the big Welcome to Alexandria Bay sign unlike some of the other motels that are further down on Rte 12 and not as convenient for walking ). There is a pharmacy/food mart right across the street and a winery about 4 or 5 miles down the road. Easy access as I81 is only 4 or 5 miles away down on Rte 12 where the motel sits. Overall, a decent, low cost, no frills option if you are visiting Alexandria Bay...after all, you are likely coming to see the Thousand Islands, etc. and won't be spending much time at the motel...we didn't.

Room Tip: Some of the rooms have balconies, though they may cost a bit more.
