My husband and I joined my parents and family friends for a weekend at the State Park camp groups. We stayed in the Eagle Loop (E) and absolutely loved it. We ended up having a much better camp site than the poorly drawn map of the park showed. We were in tents, but there is also plenty of places to hook up a pop-up or camper. The bathrooms were always clean and because of the trees and space between sites, noise was never an issue. They do have a small park store with crazy prices, but that's what you get. We liked their marina and sat and watched the boats, wishing we had one =) There is a little wild life museum and adventure trail. There are also a couple of wineries in the area that are only a short drive away. We have already booked another weekend at the end of June.

We just finished a week-long stay in cottage E, which served us well as a home base for visiting the 1000 islands area. The cottage was simple, but had all we needed for our stay. The entrance to the cabin is through a screen porch that faces the bay; while we could see the water from the porch and cottage, the view is partially obscured by brush and trees. The kitchen was equipped sufficiently to cook and serve simple meals, the living area included a sofa, chair, and propane fireplace. The bathroom appointments reminded me of campground bathhouses I've used when tent camping: a pedestal sink and small shower--it could use more counter space. As for the mattresses, imagine summer camp bunkhouses. The cottage was clean enough, and was stocked with bath and kitchen towels, dish soap, and bar soap. You can exchange towels during your stay if you need more. Outside you'll find a fire pit and picnic table. I read the review below that mentioned a problem with mice in one of the other cabins and was concerned, but we saw absolutely no evidence of a similar problem in our cottage.
If you like to hike, you can easily walk from the cottages to the park's nature center, which is starting point for many of the park's trails. We especially enjoyed the large loop that started with the Eel Bay Trail and ended up on the East Trail. We also enjoyed walking around neighboring 1000 Islands Park.

We camped at Wellesley Island State Park and had a great time. The park has an enormous number of sites and there is a lot of variety so don't assume all sites are the same. The park has a nice marina (we used our jet ski) and lots of places for kayaks, as well. There is a nature center with very nice hiking trails. We looked at the cabins (they have two different types) but didn't stay in them. One range of cabin is pretty basic, but the more expensive ones are worth considering. There are lots of waterfront, or near waterfront, sites. But also lots with woods. There are a couple of nearby stores but to get to any serious shopping you need to cross back over the island bridge to the mainland. Note that there is a toll on the bridge one way.
One activity is to visit the Boldt Castle boathouse at the East end of the island. You can buy a ticket and that entitles you tour the boat house (cool classic boats), take a shuttle boat to and from Heart Island and tour Boldt Castle. All of which is a good value and the castle is amazing.
Also on Wellesley Island is Thousand Island Park. This is a very nice little community of summer cottages.

Great place to go camping. Plenty of fishing and boating activities. Right on the boarder of Canada.

We've been going to Wellesley Island State Park for over 30 years and have never had a bad experience!!! We started out in our younger years tenting, they have some of the most beautiful tents sites anywhere in the country, on the water in the woods. We then moved up to RV'ing in all the different loops, some have smaller sites then others but all are still larger than any KOA I've ever stayed at. The last few years we've moved up to the F-Loop (Full hookups), most of those sites are large enough for any 5th wheel or RV, you have to be careful as some are at a large slope, others are very roomy and flat.

Some of the best Small mouth bass and Northern Pike fishing you'll find anywhere.

There are some very NICE restaurants on the Island, in Fineview along with a Golf Course, Nature Area, Trails, etc., something for any outdoors person.
