“Great value for money”
Reviewed 18 September 2012

Me and my partner have just returned from a 2 week holiday at Iberostar Mehari. We had a fantastic time and was great value for money.
The flight departing Gatwick with Nouvelair was delayed by 5 hours so not a great start and the staff were not very polite on the plane and for some reason were not serving hot drinks which was a bit surprising?? Return flight much better, staff were nicer too!!
I would not recommend paying the extra to have sea view as it is not worth the money as they are not proper sea views, they are more like very limited sea views but never mind, other than that the room itself was spotless and clean.
The food in the restaurant was initially well varied with lots of choice but after a few days was extremely repetitive. I unfortunately did end up with food poisoning from the main restaurant and was very ill for 2 days. ( I knew it was from the restaurant as I had not eaten anywhere else other than the main restaurant). By the end of the 2 weeks we were really bored and fed up with the repetitive food.
The reception staff do not understand English very well so this was difficult at times and 2 members of the front desk were very rude and sarcastically smirk at you, shrug their shoulders and even walk away from you. My partner had to ask someone at reception for some toilet roll as the cleaner forgot to leave some in our room and he had to do the signal for wiping his bottom for them to understand toilet tissue/paper!!! However most of the staff can't do enough for you and really want to help.
The bar staff are really nice and friendly. We left a small tip each time we had drinks and they make you strong ones!!!
The animation team were great fun and really entertaining. If they had more funding and resources then they will be able to do so much more.
There are not many trips available here due to Djerba been a very small place but we did the Island Tour and Matama Douz.. Island tour was a half day and saw some really good places and was really enjoyable. Matama Douz was very long day, starting at 6am and not returning until 9pm but this is due to the long distance that you have to travel as the trip takes you right to the Sahara where you can camel trek (at extra cost) then you go onto the scene of Star Wars and they include a few other stop off's for some photos and refreshments. Very enjoyable but long day!! I would definitely recommend a trip to Park Djerba Explore to see the crocodiles. Best time to go is between 2-3pm and feeding is at 5pm, well worth the visit and very cheap.
I would return to Djerba and possibly this hotel but maybe not for about 3 years or so as it is still developing and they are still getting to grips with the English tourists and the language barrier etc so in a few years this will be the new Egypt/Turkey attracting many English tourists.

Room Tip: I would not recommend paying the extra for sea view as these are not proper sea views, they are very...

I was unsure about this resort as my son and his girlfriend chose it. As a 3 star, you don't expect too much, the room was adequate, could do with more power points, also the room could do with a fridge provided in the cost rather than having to pay for one. The food was better than i expected, with plenty of variety at each meal, with plenty of snacks available at the pool bar. The entertainment was far superior to the 5 star resort i visited in Egypt last year, this was largely due to the Animation Team, who were excellent throughout the week, constantly involving people in activities, without being pushy. They work 16 hour shifts, with a smile on their faces, particular thanks to Nino, Fifi and Bagio, they made a difference. The bar staff were excellent, even the big guy about which i read negative reviews, think he just has one of those faces that doesn't smile. The beach was nice, apart from one morning following a storm, which forced algae ashore. All in all, a really good holiday and i would return, do remember you really need to haggle hard for everything.

started off wrong after Thomas Cook changed flight to a tunisian air line,from3.20pm to 8.10pm but finnaly flew at11.15pm and got to hotel at 4.30am Sun morning really bad, but havin said that this nuvalair flight was really good there and back no complaints. so the holiday after loosing half a day holiday, we found the hotel to be really nice, the housekeeping in every area was some of the best, always clean and tip top, pool area really nice, beach really nice except for the seaweed but the sea is lovely and warm, the beach bar is a bit grotty plastic seats and cups more of a cafe needs updating, pool bar ok for drinks and snacks but need to get rid of the wasps, food overall ok always something to eat you wouldnt starve but gets repetitive after 2 weeks, animation team well nice people rubbish shows and doesnt help that they are at the beach bar with plastic cups although i do like the idea they need something in the main bar area maybe music or something and more chairs on the outside drinking area. staff overall very friendly. BUT BEWARE OF THE FRENCH AND ITALIANS THEY LIKE TO GET SUNBEDS ROUND THE POOL IN THE SHADE IN THE SUN AND ON THE BEACH AND JUST ROTATE GOING TO THEM DURING THE DAY EVEN KEEP THEM WHEN GOING ON TRIPS AND FOR 2 HOUR LUNCHES AND NOBODY CARES,if i go again i will remove the offending beach towels. Only downfall you cannot walk to the town or anywhere, but taxis are cheap and the noddy train lets you see Djerban life and thats cheap on Friday go to market. Crocodile park also good for a morning or afternoon away from the hotel.Tips for staff do go a long way. Overall a good relaxing holiday and would go agiain. Met lods of nice ENGLISH people. And take your thermos or similar cups for drinks on the beach or pool.

Room Tip: Dont pay extra for a sea view you would almost just be able to see it.

Just returned from a 2 week stay a the Mehari. Can't really speak highly enough of it. Despite a 3 hour delay on the outbound flight and therefore not arriving until 5 am, once you unpacked , grabbed a bit of sleep, the holiday really began. Lovely pool, beach( sometimes the seaweed appeared then disappeared) restaraunt, food, staff and climate. The animation team worked really hard throughout and were most engaging. The other staff, without exception were top class. Hardworking and always pleasant, some of the nicest people you could wish to meet. Special mention to Tareq who runs the pool bar singlehandedly and is totally brilliant. Always cheerful and smiling he maintained a busy bar to the best of standards and what a nice guy too!
We were in room 5109 which was close to everything that mattered, it was cleaned daily to a high standard and had everything we needed. The food was always well cooked , hot and plentiful and the standard of hygeine and cleanliness was high.
Overall this was a very nice hotel of a very high standard, much better than a 3*. Nothing was a problem and I am sure we will return.

We have just returned from an amazing holiday at the Mehari! We traveled as part of a group of five and all thoroughly enjoyed it. Our room was lovely, cleaned daily and had fab air conditioning (much needed due to how hot it was).

Food was great, lots of choice. Had no issues really with any of the staff as previously mentioned. Pool area is excellent but you'll need to get up early to grab a lounger as by about 9.30am they seem to be all gone.

The animation team do a great job in the day, with regular aerobics/zumba etc by the pool and various games. The evening entertainment..... Well, it was poor and needs a good shake up.

The beach is beautiful and is a 2 minute walk away.

I would recommend this hotel 100% and we are looking to return next year. My only real issue is with Thomas Cook, our dates were changed, our airline was changed, and to top it all there was a 4 hour delay on our return which our rep was aware of but didn't let any one know....

Amazing holiday overall and we are looking forward to returning.

Room Tip: Take your own cups... The ones provided at the bars are TINY, so in the day time it was really usefu...

Stayed at the Mehari from 19th Aug - 2nd Sept. The five of us enjoyed our stay and would recommend to anyone. The food was good and had a varied choice. We found all bar staff friendly and had no problems and we did take our own plastic glasses. Our room for three was clean and the air conditioning was excellent and much needed as the weather was very hot. We paid for 3 adults but the third bed was only big enough for a dwarf not our 6ft, 18 year old son so be warned. The swimming pool was nice and there were lots of sun beds but by 8 o'clock most had towels on. The beach was fantastic and beds were available to approx 10 o'clock. Camel & horse rides were available on the beach as well as various water sports. The animation team were friendly and worked long hours. Day time entertainment was ok but the evening entertainment was at best poor. It was very French orientated and the snake charmer who we saw twice (i have no idea why) couldn't charm anyone, let alone a snake. The disco that followed was not great as the music was quite old or foreign.
The holiday though was extremley good value for money and we would all come back. It was very relaxing and we didn't see anything major that would put anyone off.
My biggest complaint has to be with Thomas Cook. Coming home we were delayed over 4 hours but were still taken to the airport. Thomas Cook's rep was well aware of this but they just want you at the airport so its not their problem. Nouvelair are a basic airline but do get you there....just.
Overall though it was a great holiday....
