Me and my partner have just returned from a 2 week holiday at Iberostar Mehari. We had a fantastic time and was great value for money.
The flight departing Gatwick with Nouvelair was delayed by 5 hours so not a great start and the staff were not very polite on the plane and for some reason were not serving hot drinks which was a bit surprising?? Return flight much better, staff were nicer too!!
I would not recommend paying the extra to have sea view as it is not worth the money as they are not proper sea views, they are more like very limited sea views but never mind, other than that the room itself was spotless and clean.
The food in the restaurant was initially well varied with lots of choice but after a few days was extremely repetitive. I unfortunately did end up with food poisoning from the main restaurant and was very ill for 2 days. ( I knew it was from the restaurant as I had not eaten anywhere else other than the main restaurant). By the end of the 2 weeks we were really bored and fed up with the repetitive food.
The reception staff do not understand English very well so this was difficult at times and 2 members of the front desk were very rude and sarcastically smirk at you, shrug their shoulders and even walk away from you. My partner had to ask someone at reception for some toilet roll as the cleaner forgot to leave some in our room and he had to do the signal for wiping his bottom for them to understand toilet tissue/paper!!! However most of the staff can't do enough for you and really want to help.
The bar staff are really nice and friendly. We left a small tip each time we had drinks and they make you strong ones!!!
The animation team were great fun and really entertaining. If they had more funding and resources then they will be able to do so much more.
There are not many trips available here due to Djerba been a very small place but we did the Island Tour and Matama Douz.. Island tour was a half day and saw some really good places and was really enjoyable. Matama Douz was very long day, starting at 6am and not returning until 9pm but this is due to the long distance that you have to travel as the trip takes you right to the Sahara where you can camel trek (at extra cost) then you go onto the scene of Star Wars and they include a few other stop off's for some photos and refreshments. Very enjoyable but long day!! I would definitely recommend a trip to Park Djerba Explore to see the crocodiles. Best time to go is between 2-3pm and feeding is at 5pm, well worth the visit and very cheap.
I would return to Djerba and possibly this hotel but maybe not for about 3 years or so as it is still developing and they are still getting to grips with the English tourists and the language barrier etc so in a few years this will be the new Egypt/Turkey attracting many English tourists.
