“Mehari Djerba”
Reviewed 9 February 2014

Had a great time at the Mehari, little concerned about weather as we went last flight of the season - 19 October - fantastic.
Hotel is a very good 3star bordering 4 star, food, beach really good.
Good access to a great beach - fantastic beach walks in either direction.
Rooms on the basic side, but clean - would go back to Djerba and this hotel without a doubt.
Got taxi into the local town for a few hours when the market was on - good few hours, taxis cheap.
Flew with Nouvelle air who Thomas Cook are not using for 2014 - but tbh we found them perfectly ok - leg room good, drinks prices on board reasonable, would probably only go to Djerba for a week in low season, as not too much to see/do for any longer - but all in all a good week all inc at a really good price

The Iberostar Mehari is certainly a good resort hotel, it's belonging to the international spain hotels group Iberostar, and you'll find all you can expect in this kind of situation, especially if you'll choice "all inclusive" rate. The rooms are ok, confortable, you have a big pool and a nice "passage" to the nice and private beach, tennis court and all you could expect for sport and "divertissement". The food is ok, especially the dinner buffet, you have a big choice.
I have been there in the Christmas holydays (in the beginning of january), the weather was very nice (very sunny in the day and of course a little bit cold in the night, normal in the winter season), but I think that this kind of hotels in the high season period (july, august, begininning of september) could be "too mich"...too much traffic...too many guests in the same time at the pool. at the beah, at breakfast or dinner buffet could be not easy to live in this kind of resort hotel, especially because it's going to work quite exclusively with tour operators.
But if you want to stop here a few days before to travel till the wonderfull desert and the beautifull oasis then it could be a right choice.

Just arrived back on sat 12th oct after two weeks holiday at the mehari. The flights were on time going & returning the plane going out seemed old and very noisy alot better one on the return there was no in flight entertainment & only a limited amount of duty free. When we arrived at hotel about midnight they had a light meal waiting for us & gave us a bottle of water for our room.we had a nice view of sea & pool good size room the only little problem was how high the bath was to get in & out my friend only having little legs.Like other reviews the food was abit repetitive but there was always something to eat, even for the fussy ones.Like some reviews have said not many english guests but we knew that when we booked so we had no problem with this. All of the staff from reception to the cleaners were very plesant and polite even the barman that some reviews had said otherwise.Well what can i say about the fantastic animation team Alex, Coco, Max & the rest of the team they were excellent they worked so hard from about 9.00am till nearly midnight i have never seen such enthusiasm within a team, they put on some great shows lion king and grease i really enjoyed .Enjoyed doing aqua gym with Coco most mornings, they also do archery, darts & other activities, also the children are well catered for ..The hotel is in a complex with other hotels golf course across the road if your into golf,No shops by the hotels but a short taxi ride about eight minutes away into Midoun they have lots of shops there cost about 3 dinar each way also a souk ( market ) twice aweek thursday afternoon & friday mornings .Would definitely recommend this hotel and would like to visit again soon. sue & shirley

So here is my honest opinion about this holiday.
Just arrived back from a week at the mehari on sat 12th Oct.
We arrived in the early hours and the reception staff gave us a bottle of water and told us that some food had been prepared if we wanted it which I thought was great. When stepping on the balcony the next morning we was disappointed with the view (a big tree, a wall and a shed). We asked reception if we could move rooms and although she was initially reluctant she let us move rooms to a pool view.
The food choices as mentioned in other reviews was repetitive and the beer was very very weak however the wine was nice. We had a meal in the a la carte restaurant and was extremely disappointed with the quality of the food and the set menu (you had no choice but to eat what put at your table) , this consisted of raw salted fish, fish flavoured soup and some other (what appeared to be cooked from frozen) fish coated in a soggy batter! I would not recommend the restaurant. Bar staff didn't seem interested much with the English guest which moves me on to the other guests. This is very much a German orientated place with a lot of French too. I don't know why Thomas Cook send such few guests from England. This would of been a completely different holiday if it had more of an equal balance in nationalities.
I have to mention the Animation/Entertainment team, Alex,Jambo,Fifi to mention a few, they are by far the focal point at this hotel, this team of people work harder than I have ever seen anybody work before. They are there from 9am till 11:30pm, they spend their lunch talking and dining with guests, they are always ready to chat and really do try to get all nationalities involved. They love their job and provide entertainment for all ages, young kids to adults. The shows they put on are great, they will get guests up dancing and getting involved but are never pushy and will never force you.
Finally I have to mention our last night. Sat down ready to eat our food in the main buffet restaurant and suddenly saw staff walking round and talking to guests. Chefs, kitchen staff, Managers, reception staff, people we had never spoke to before or spoke to us and people we had never seen ( entertainment staff always walked round and got involved so for them it was normal), suddenly it became clear, opinion slips and pens were placed on tables asking to rate the Hotel, cleanliness of rooms to quality of food etc. I put average about the food when from nowhere a chef appeared, asked a few questions and started to read the slip on the table, he then told us to change the food question to excellent. Need I say more.
Overall it served its purpose which was quick week away in great weather with great entertainment. Wouldn't rush to go back.

Dear Guest,

First of all we would like to thank you for choosing our IBEROSTAR Mehari Djerba hotel for your holidays as well as for the time you spent to write and share a review with your personal impressions so that we can be informed of the improvements we may make to offer splendid holidays’ experiences to all our guests.

We read your comment on the guests’ survey evening and passed it to our heads of departments in order to guarantee the following of our standards at all times and deeply apologize for the inconveniences, it saddens us to read that you felt pressured to answer the questionnaire which is a potent tool to measure our guests' satisfaction with our services. To us, it is of prime importance that these are filled out honestly.

We also lament reading that our theme restaurant La Guellala was not to your liking and commit to revise what failed during your stay as we wish to offer the possibility to sample the best traditional Tunisian delights and the best authentic Tunisian entrées in all of Sidi Akkour.

On the other hand we thank you for your nice comments towards our animation staff, their enthusiasm is contagious and they strive to offer a wide variety of leisure and sport activities throughout the day as well as entertaining evening shows for the amusement of our guests; we will definitely congratulate them all on your behalf for their contribution to your wellbeing whilst staying among us.

Spent two weeks here early September and must agree with all the good comments, for a 3 star hotel we had a brilliant time and it was excellent value for money. We went without any great expectations and were very nicely surprised. The water pressure in the bathroom has got to be the best we have ever had and the water was always very hot. Yes the meals tend to get a bit boring but I think that's down to the fact that there is so much choice, we never went hungry that's for sure! We have thought that if we come again we will eat out in the local town a couple of times just to have a bit of a change, apparently the restaurants are very reasonable. We did try the speciality restaurant in the hotel one night which wasn't great but it did make a change to be waited on. On the drinks front it took a few days to work out what was drinkable and what was not, the Rose wine was pretty good, the Red was okay, give the White a miss. Bar Service was a bit hit and miss, the large guy never seemed to get the drinks order right, and if you asked him for a cocktail it was anyone's guess what you got even if you pointed it out on the bar menu and for some reason he quite often missed the alcohol out, so he was a bit of a pain, everyone else had no problem getting it right. As our room was on the ground floor we had a couple of visitors in the bathroom (cockroach) but we dealt with them ourselves and mentioned it to the room cleaner who sprayed our room, we also rolled up the small rug and put it against the bottom of the door at night, it's bound to happen as the hotel is built next to the beach. I didn't think we'd use the indoor pool as we spent all day at the beach, but it was lovely when we came back up at 5ish just to do a few lengths and chill out, there were never more than a couple of other people there. There was a lot going on at the main pool during the day which wasn't for us, too noisy and not our thing as we like to just relax, read and walk along the beach. When we first went down to the beach we were a little disappointed as the sea seemed really murkey and you couldn't see if there were any rocks, however it all changed dramatically with the tides and it turned out to be warm like bathwater and as clear as clear, so we had been too quick to judge. We quickly worked out which were the best places to enter the water, and further along the beach to the left as you look at the sea you could find great swimming without many people. The flight out with Nouvelair wasn't great, the toilet was grim and the cabin crew a bit surly, coming back was better, we had booked extra leg seats both ways so that made the flight easier, anyway it wasn't as bad as some have made out and it is only 3.5 hours flight which was a breeze after doing long haul. In a nutshell we had fantastic weather, everything was kept spotless, plenty to eat and drink, the staff were friendly, we had a lovely relaxing holiday and it was an absolute bargain, we will definitely go again.

We just returned on the 28th sept 13,we stayed for a week but wished it was for 2,it was that good.
The rooms were plenty big enough, spotless and cleaned everyday.our room was 6202 next to the gym but not once did we get disturbed by any noise.over looking the pool area.
The only down side was the very late arrival,2am,there was food on arrival but would advise taking some food with you.breakfast finishes at 10am so be sure not to sleep late.
The restaurant is quite large and the food on offer is of a very high standard.although only buffet but with plenty of hot and cold foods on offer.
The pool area is kept clean all through the day.there are plenty of sunbeds all round the pool.be early to get the best ones.the weather was very warm 34c-40c.
All the staff work very hard and are very polite and friendly.
Last but not least are the entertainment team.the work and effort they put in all day and night make the whole holiday an unforgettable experience..Michelle can be very proud of his team.

We will definitely go back, sooner rather than later we hope.
