“you need to be up at 5am for a sunbed!!!”
Reviewed 25 August 2014

This was my first time visiting Tunisia and it was very nice, lots of history and lots of places of interest to visit. The hotel, the staff here are amazing. so nice and very helpful and can not fault them one bit. they made the holiday. The Hotel, we had room 1217 which overlooked the sea and pool. Room was clean and nice. Not as outstanding as previous hotels my husband and I have stayed in. The fridge was only topped up with one bottle of orange Fanta and a litre of water a day. We asked the head waiter if we could have some beer left and after that each day 4 bottles were left in the fridge. The management at this hotel need to do something about the booking of beds, other travellers are booking the beach and pool beds between 4 - 5am and some do not even come to use these to 3pm in the afternoon, leaving those of us who want to sunbath all day in a position where beds are not available. This is the downside of the Hotel, until something is done about the bed hogging you need to be out before 7am to get a bed that is not 5 rows back and in the shade. the Hotel says 5 star and a Thompson Premier, this I don't agree with, we do the Premier 5 Star often and this Hotel did not match the general level of what it was saying it should be, you have to ask for extra water, normally there is water left in bathrooms for teeth, water on bedside tables, and water in fridge. here you just get one litre bottle per day until more is requested. the staff in the Tunisian and Italian restaurants are fantastic and we visit these on a few occasions. I preferred the restaurants to the buffet this was really down to the queuing and pushing you get the buffet which you dont get in the restaurants. This Hotel is not to far from Yasmin so when staying here I recommend you go and visit at least once, they have a good medina with great bargains on leather bags and shoes. we went out here a couple of times to shop and eat out, coming back to the Hotel I recommend the Tuk Tuk back instead of a taxi you will have lots of laughs, we agreed a price first but ended up giving him double (still very cheap) as it was worth every dina. Old Hammernet was a 20 minute taxi ride awayin the other direction and for only 8 dinar, well worth it. stopped at a lovely little restaurant and the medina was brilliant, so my advise is get out the Hotel and visit the local towns and sample the ambience of Tunisia, you see military men about but this does not matter, we felt safe and unthreatened the whole trip. to management at this Hotel, you need up the soft drinks and water in the fridges, two people ina room require more than one bottle of Fanta and water, and until the sunbeds hogging is dealt with, I would not be coming back to this Hotel which is a shame because the staff here work very hard and are brilliant.

Room Tip: we stayed in room 1217, we only heard the neighbouring hotels loud music once. the views from balc...

Stayed there by June 2013. Enjoyed the facilities which are glamourous. Stayed in a room in the hotel and not in a bungalow, I believe it's better facilities. Friendly and fun staff always ready to help. Nice food with variety and good themed dinners, great gardens and swimmpools and good beach. I've been at the Yasmine's Medina and also got the Camel's ride, recommend both of them. In resume, I recommend this hotel for a nice family relaxing and fun holidays.

Room Tip: Ask for a hotel room instead of bungalow, seems to be really better.

Stayed here for 11 days in August 2014. Arrived very late but was still met with a cooling drink, though I would have just preferred my room key.
We were booked to one of the bungalows near to the main hotel. The accommodation was roomy and comfortable, though the bathroom was tired and in need of refurbishment, though everything worked. Staff were very friendly and helpful throughout, particularly in the bar areas. Tried all three themed restaurants and were disappointed by both the Italian and the Tunisian though the fish restaurant was superb. The main restaurant food was ok but a bit repetitive and typical 'all inclusive' eclectic mix of bits of food that don't go together to make a proper meal. Lunch by the pool was a bit hit and miss with insufficient seating and the same salad, pizza, chips and fried meat every day.
The sun loungers were comfortable though the other residents did have a habit of claiming those in prime positions them before breakfast and not returning all day. Drinks were served around the pool occasionally, though the pool bar was open from 10:00 in the morning serving hot and cold drinks.
The beach was very sandy and the sea shallow and warm. Various activities were available on the beach for an extra charge. Those included in the hotel's offer were LaBoule, darts, beach volleyball and archery, water aerobics and water polo.
The hotel Spa was very keen to promote packages rather than one-off treatments, which tended to be quite expensive.
Never made it to the evening entertainment, which didn't begin until 10p.m., but there was no noise from the activities in this hotel, you could here the entertainment from the hotel next door which appeared to be much more lively and noisey.
I did enjoy my stay but a week would probably be enough if I was to go again.

Room Tip: Chose a bungalow between the hotel and the sea; there are some in front of the hotel but you have to...

Having arrived late on a Sunday evening, we were greeted by a filthy red carpet that leads to the entrance. On first impressions the room seemed of a good standard although the decor is slightly dated. However, when inspecting the patio we found that we couldn't lock the patio once it was opened. After ringing reception around 3 times and waiting for two hours the maintenance man finally arrived and allegedly fixed the door. After this we got to sleep at 12am only to be awoken by a disco held outside of the hotel which continued to around 4.30am. The following day we opened the patio doors to find that the lock was broke yet again. We raised the issue with reception and found the male staff very rude and arrogant but eventually they fixed the door again. After another four evenings of no sleep we were promised a new room but it coincided with us going on an excursion so the reception staff offered to move our cases to the new room. On returning from our 11 hour excursion we were given our new room key and upon opening the door discovered all the beds had been slept in, all the towels were damp, used and they were strewn across the chairs. At this point we were very irate to say the least and once again we approached the reception desk. Where male staff were rude yet again.

The first week the food was very much the same every day with a slight improvement by the second week. Arabic quests left their tables in a disgusting state, Russian guests are very loud and boys-tress. We used the a la carets twice on our stay, these were not of a very high standard and we were rushed on our courses. However most staff are very kind and helpful and always want to please.

We will not be returning to Riu Palace Hammamet Marhaba, it is not a 5* more like a 3*+.

THIS IS NOT 5*. We visited this hotel for two weeks in 2012 and it was fantastic, however we returned in 2014 and what a big dissapointment. The food is poor paticularly at the weekend when the pools and restaurant are opened to none residents, lunch becomes hell with loads of ferrell kids running about in the restaurant. Towels in the room are not changed daily, on three occasions having used the same towel for THREE days I had to ask for them to be changed. On the balcony a huge chunk of masonry had fallen off the wall. The staff are fantastic and do their best but they are a bit thin on the ground. On the day before going home our room was not made up. In my opinion it's 3* at best. We will not be returning.

Room Tip: If your looking for 5* look elsewhere.

We chose this hotel for a family holiday for 10 nights all inclusive based in two bungalows outside the hotel. Upon Arrival, the reception staff could not do enough for you and assisted us with our cases and got us all drinks and seats awaiting room cards. The bungalows we stayed in were spacious, elegant and modern. The cleanliness was immaculate and the maid was extremely friendly and put rose petals on our beds daily to add extra effects. We had two bungalows both were extremely outstanding.

The food was really nice and varied daily, there was a barbecue by the beach each lunch time and a buffet in the main restaurant. The waiters that served us each morning and night were so friendly, always smiling and couldnt do enough for us. They had our drinks ready for us at the table and 'Lotfi' and 'Hatem' were the nicest waiters we could have asked for.

The animation team were amazing and so talented and made an effort to come & talk to us in the day especially 'Sam' and 'Malik'. The shows were very varied and entertaining!

We could not find one fault with this hotel or the staff in it, they were amazingly helpful, friendly and always smiling!! The cleanliness was immaculate and the food very lovely.

We are definitely coming back next year for two weeks, 10 nights was not enough!!!

Would recommend this hotel to anyone going to Tunisia, Amazing!

Room Tip: Bungalows very spacious and cosy!!

Great value for money, wonderful service from check in to check out. Food was excellent in quality and variety, with themed nights including Tunisian, Asian and Mexican.waiters and staff all extremely helpful. Manager makes his way around all day checking in with guests, as did head of housekeeping. Beach excellent had no hassle from sellers just 've nice have a chat and say no, they don't mind, and I was woman on holiday with teenage daughter on our own. At no point did we feel unsafe so don't worry about this. Pools where lovely, no shortage of loungers, we tipped about 3-5 dinars for everything as there wages are so low. Rooms are huge( we had a bungalow) mini bar filled daily, full size bath and WiFi reached our bungalow so added plus, not sure this was the case for rooms further away.Would go back without hesitation.
