Got back on Thursday from 11 nights of luxury and pure relaxation. If you are considering this as your holiday destination, book it now. You will not regret it!
We had a great family room that overlooked the pool and sea - didn't pay any extra for the sea view so I guess we were maybe just lucky. The room was modern, spacious and immaculately clean. Teenage children had the space nearest the balcony that was separated from our sleeping area by ornate sliding doors so we all had our own privacy. The bathroom was great with a very powerful shower and clean are towels provided every day. Bathrooms have a hairdryer but we learnt from previous holidays that the bathroom ends up being incredibly hot so took our own. The beds were made up every day and changed a couple of times a week. We couldn't fault the housekeeping and the maids were very friendly.
We arrived at lunchtime and although the sunbeds around the edge of the pool were taken, we still had no problem getting 4 beds at 1 p.m. People tend to put towels out early in the morning to reserve 'prime spots' but you won't struggle to find a bed further back on the grassy area and we actually found it was quieter and more relaxing here, plus its nearer to the pool bar. We hired towels for a deposit of 10 TND each which at the time was £2.85 so it's not worth taking up space in your case with your own towels as you can change your towels as often as you want and you get the deposit back at the end of your stay.
The all inclusive food was outstanding at every meal. Fantastic quality and a huge choice. I am the most adventurous diner out of our group and loved the seafood - king prawns, squid, octopus, grilled fish. The others never struggled to find something they liked - griddled chicken, steak, vegetable fritters, pasta, pizza, chips, cous cous, salad of every type. We were stuffed after every meal!
Breakfast is served until 9.45 but there is continental breakfast available until 12. Lunch is from 12.30 and dinner from 7. The pool side snack bar opens at 3 to serve paninis, waffles, crepes and pancakes.
There are 2 a la carte restaurants - you can visit one free of charge during your stay. The Mediterranean one serves at lunch time down near the pool area and the oriental one opens on an evening. We chose the oriental one and I loved it, although the other 3 weren't as impressed with the food on offer. But if you have fussy member in your party, you could always grab something for them from the all buffet restaurant that is next door. Saying that, we had a good meal and it was nice to be waited on rather than have to help yourself all the time.
The waiting staff in the restaurant were really helpful, bringing you endless drinks and after a day or so remembering what you normally have.
The staff at the terrace bar were really lovely too and great fun. They were very attentive, clearing tables instantly. We were a bit cross when half way through the holiday a man who we assumed to be the bar manager (think his name was Ridah B.R.) appeared one evening and began openly ordering the staff around in a rude and uncalled for manner. The waiting staff seemed on edge and really unhappy with the way he spoke to them. They had managed very well without him and his presence did nothing to improve the service. Other than that there were various staff who really made our holiday that little bit better - apologies if I spell your names wrong: Amal on reception, Maher and Sofien (amazing special coffee) at the pool bar and all the guys at the terrace bar.
2 of us went horse-riding, which although incredibly hot to have a lesson at 5 pm in the 30 degree heat, was definately worth it as we then went out for a 2 hour trek/gallop along the beaches early next morning. It was brilliant and I would definately recommend it. For the hours lesson and 2 hours trek it was around £90 for the 2 of us and worth every penny.
2 of us also had the half hour relaxing massage - fabulous! And only 50 TND each it was a bargain. At the time they were running a promotion that if you bought 2 massages you got a 3rd free so 3 massages for less than £30!
Other bits of info I think you should know:
There is an ATM in the hotel that accepts visa debit and credit cards (the reception staff told us you could only use credit cards)
Tips - you don't have to tip to get good service, but bearing in mind the amazing exchange rate, a couple of dinars here and there was nothing to us but was probably a great deal to the staff.
Service - in relation to the above point, we always find that 'hello', 'please' and 'thank you' is very much appreciated.
Birthdays - if you let the reception staff know if one of your group is celebrating, they will arrange a personalised cake.
Sunbeds - ask the pool guys and they will bring you cushions for the beds.
Day time entertainment - on offer every day other than Sunday. Staff asked us if we wanted to get involved with archery, yoga, aqua aerobics, face painting etc but didn't hassle us when we said no thanks.
We had a 10.30 am flight so had to leave the hotel just after 6 am. There was continental breakfast for us to help ourselves before we left.
We don't usually go back to the same hotel twice, but after visiting le Sultan, I think it is very likely that we will be returning. Great holiday, great hotel and fantastic memories.
