“Spring Relaxation”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 April 2014

We visit Tunisia regularly as we have a 6 yr old child who we always feel safe travelling here with. This was our first stay in the Marco Polo in Jasmine Hammamet and were very happy with the Hotel and its location.
The staff are second to none in their desire to keep you happy during your stay. The rooms and the hotel itself were very clean and well maintained.
The layout of the complex is quite long, but using different stairs and lifts to the main ones gave us good access around the hotel facilities.
The Animation team are fantastic, although we weren't interested in the evening entertainment past the children's disco, they were great with the children on the complex and played some fun adult games during the day without being pushy to those not wishing to join in.
The outdoor pool is stunning, but very chilly at this time of year. unfortunately so was the indoor pool for several days until it started being heated for the weekend. The Spa smelt wonderful and looked great, but we didn't use it. Pool towels are part of the all inclusive package that can be changed as necessary at reception.
Unfortunately, their season starts officially on the 1st May, so the beach had yet to be cleared and not all facilities were available, such as the pool bar and alternative eating areas. Saying that, the food was very good and the staff were happy to do alternatives for children when requested. There was a coffee and a juice machine in reception from 10am, self service, and freshly cooked pancakes at 3pm which were perfect on our cooler days.
At this time of year, the location was great, as it is only a short walk into the Marina and Medina to do a little retail therapy when the weather wasn't nice enough to site around the pool.
Yes, the sellers are pushy, but if you're happy to barter then you can get some great bargains. Always remember to start at a third of their price and never pay more than half. Converse trainer are made in Tunisia so pay around 25DN which is less than £10 currently.
There were market stalls in the hotel complex on the Saturday morning and these were quite competitively priced. But remember, never start with numbers if you don't want to buy.
Would we go again? Yes, but probably out of season again.
Would I recommend it to my friends and family? Most definitely.

Room Tip: Our room was on the second floor at the back, so we faced the sea and it was quiet, but only got sun...

We have been holidaying in Tunisia at Easter for five years or more and usually stay at The Royal Kenz in Port El Kantoui, a hotel that has gone into decline since they began to offer 'all inclusive' board. This influenced our decision to try The Marco Polo this year. As always, I checked this site prior to booking, ignoring the pointless comments about 'repetitive' food and the 'run down' resort as 'repetitive' food is typical of any all inclusive restaurant and run down areas are typical of Tunisia as a destination.

The hotel is large, well kept, clean and efficiently managed. I am on crutches at the moment after breaking my ankle in January and was pleased to be allocated a great adapted room after emailing the hotel directly. It was close to the pool and restaurant, had a walk in shower and was next to the lift. My in laws were given an upgraded room so that they could be near us which I thought was thoughtful and generous.

The food was not only the best I've had in Tunisia but the best all inclusive food I've had in a large hotel like this, even in so called 'American Standard'. The vegetarian choice was particularly good and the bread, cakes, pastries and pizza were fresh every day. On the downside, none of the al a carte restaurants or snack bars were open; the most disappointing part of this was having to go in for a 'sit down' lunch each day when we really only wanted a sandwich by the pool.

Drinks were ok, typical of AI and Tunisia really in that the beer is good, the wine is terrible and the spirits are hit and miss. We stuck with G&T most of the time and got generous measures for a few dinar tips here and there.

The outdoor pool was chilly but the indoor pool was a steamy, smelly alternative. This needs looking at as it's treated like a children's area most of the day and then not really cleaned or ventilated. My husband used it at opening and closing times and it was ok then.

The entertainment staff are some of the most hardworking, friendly, professional hotel staff I've met but the pressure on them is immense. Not only are they running activities, sports etc all day but then they provide a full show, usually dancing or quizzes and things at night. Some more 'bought in' entertainment might have broken the monotony although I got the impression that most people just wanted to dance. We're not really into hotel entertainment but it's not too full on and beats sitting in the foyer at night which is noisy and pretty smoky from the indoor smoking area.

All in all we had a great fortnight with good weather for the time of year. We would definitely stay here again but are considering the RIU Oceana to see what difference an extra £150 actually makes - the reviews would suggest that it's worth it.

Firstly, this holiday was much cheaper than equivalent deals in the canaries and we did not expect the same level of quality/service that we have received in more pricey resorts. The Riu Marco Polo exceeded our expectations. The hotel is quite compact and was not too busy when we were there and I imagine it must get busy in high season. Top marks for cleanliness - nuff said. The food is a bit repetitive but in comparison to other all inclusives we have been to, it bears up well. The staff are mega friendly and the management staff have a high profile around the hotel. In summary - good hotel for a quiet break out of the peak season.

Room Tip: Rooms with the higher numbers are on the south wing and get the late evening sunshine - they are bes...

Overall this is a excellent hotel with staff that are second to none! Rooms spotless, as was the rest of the hotel. We've spent a fantastic fortnight here. Here's the but...
Food is good but not much choice for children, and if you expect a full English breakfast this isn't the place for you.
Lack of indoor seating at night. Smoking IS allowed inside which is a massive down side for a non-smoker!
If your looking for a beach holiday you'll struggle as the beach was dirty. However this is just constructive critisism and we would recommend this hotel, particularly as they have the BEST entertainment staff!

After visiting the Marco Polo with my husband, daughter and two year old grandson we simply cannot understand the negative reviews which we saw before our visit and left us dreading the weeks holiday. We'll we had a great time, the hotel staff, without exception from managers, animation team, waiters, cleaners, garden eras were all lovely and extremely helpful. Yes the beach needs to be cleAned up and that is a shame because it could be beautiful, but the hotel is absolutely lovely, extremely clean everywhere, our rooms were spacious and nipping clean and our cleaner was lovely-our grAndson was given so much attention, he loved the mini disco!! Pool great but cold, indoor pool warmer. The food, though buffet as the other two restaurants are not yet open as it is out of main season was lovely, plenty to eat and drink and great quality. Hope you enjoy your stay. Only downside was the two hour wait on arrival at airport-6 planes landed at once, it was very frustrating but did not spoil our lovely break. Thank you Marco Polo.

Room Tip: Try for a pool view, we didn't but still had a lovely outlook over gardens and partial, sea view.

I stayed mid April with my 2 year old son and parents! The service was amazing, the people in this hotel are so hardworking and are dedicated to providing a outstanding and precise device!

The rooms are very very clean and are cleaned everyday by the maids, who were very friendly.

The animation team were so happy and welcoming providing an all round great entertainment service for adults and children, kids club ran 10-12.30 and 230-5 of which the doors are open for you to go in with your child if you don't want to leave them unattended which I wouldn't with my son as he was a bit to little! Lovely children's pool and large swimming pool which is also suitable for children as has raised areas which are shallow with tiled beds under the water and steps!

With it being out of season the pool bars weren't open but this was fine as there was waiters who took orders of drinks whilst lounging around the pool!

Beach was lovely where sun beds were altho were in the. process of cleaning this for the busier period.

Food was amazing, a great assortment of different foods from different cultures, and also for anyone who has specific diets such as vegetarian!

All round great holiday and all staff were amazing with my son who was a bit of a live wire but they all knew his name from day one, he loved the food and the children's disco which took place from 8pm every night and shows started at half 9 afterwards which involved rush dancing, karaoke etc!

Would definitely return to this hotel and Tunisia and it's based next to a small harbour which was a lovely walk when trying to get my son to sleep in his pushchair!

We booked the Riu Marco Polo for 2 reasons -
1. We have been to several Riu's in the past and have always found them to be great.
2. We wanted a stress free holiday sitting around a pool to relax. We had no intentions of site seeing.
This holiday match these 2 expectations perfectly.

The kids club was great Rabaa was fantastic with our daughter (7) and helped to make her holiday whilst giving us time to relax..

All staff were great, tip Lotfi at the ent hall bar and you will be rewarded with good measures and excellent service. The staff do appreciate tips.

Downsides
I would imagine at peak times this hotel could be a nightmare for pool side space and food queues. Go off peak, but be prepared for closed bars and restaurants.

People do try and sell you trips, photos but a polite 'no thanks' works.

Beach dirty and not welcoming - at least at off peak times.

There was some theft, my wife had some makeup disappear and at least one guest had their phone stolen. However they did not use the safe provided.

All in all, there are a few things that could be improved, but overall this is an excellent value for money hotel and we would return.
