We were at the hotel at the same time as "AHappy traveller" and can agree largely with what has been said. However we have been to the hotel before although in peak season so we were somewhat disappointed with what we found. The pool bar was not open so that entailed a long walk from the pool to the bar inside. Yes waiters were very willing to get the drinks for you, but being short staffed it was a long wait! The plaza bar and the snack bar were also not open so if you or your child wanted some chips or ice cream it had to be at lunchtime or evening meal only. Not really all inclusive as we have experienced at other Riu hotels. Yes the staff are super and the animation team work very hard but largely they require the holiday makers to get involved as well, so if there are no takers it falls a bit flat. The hotel appeared to be about half full so they really had to work hard to get some response. So apart from those facilities not open the major drawback was the beach. Filthy! In the UK we live close to a Blue Flag beach (Cleethorpes in North Lincolnshire) which is cleaned each day using tractor driven mechanical cleaners. With labour being inexpensive in Tunisia it may be not economic to do the same but, come on, make some effort! Also in spite of being not full the cooking stations could not keep up with demand and very often long queues formed. The manager was aware of this since he watched the queues get bigger, usually standing in the way of the rest of us! Would we go again? Probably not but if you are desparate to give it a try (it is very good value for money) go in peak season when hopefully all the facilities are open

Room Tip: A pool or sea view should be asked for. Other rooms have street or delivery area views which are not...

Just got back from holiday with my husband and two children (3years and 11months). We had an amazing time at Marco Polo after moving hotels from Club Magic life, Africana. Big thank you to First choice rep Tracey who helped us do this and couldn't have been more helpful (she even gave us a kettle, as they don't have them in the hotel!)

Positives...
*hotel very family friendly, flat, even walkways which is perfect for buggys. Lifts to all floors.
*staff couldn't do more for you, everyone says hello and are great with the children. Kids club staff are particularly good and keep you updated with anything that might suit the kids without pestering.
* food varied enough to keep us all happy (which an be a challenge with kids) and chef always happy to make something 'special' for children if you have special requirements.
We also loved the afternoon tea of pancakes everyday!
* rooms spacious enough... We were kindly offered to move rooms to family room, which had separate room for adults) when we asked which was fantastic and had harbour and sea views! They are very happy to offer you different rooms if there are any available. Ask at reception
* pool area great. Largest outdoor pool in North Africa. Sun beds are arranged so that you can have your own private space if you want it. Plenty of beds so people didn't 'mis use' them. Lifeguard also happy to bring sun umbrellas so just ask.
* very handy, large indoor pool, very quiet and heated in the winter.

Points to note:
*plaza bar and themed restaurants are not open until 1st May which is a shame
* Beach is quite mucky, although you can find nice spots if you try
* no kettles or microwave facilities for heating baby bottles up... So take your own!

Great hotel for families... Highly recommended! Would happily stay again.

Firstly - the hotel is smart, & clean, the reception area is very welcoming. The rooms are basic but clean. We were allocated a pool view room which the management had said was a free upgrade by the hotel - we have since found out from our tour operator that there is no additional supplements for pool view rooms - they are all classed as standard!!

The entertainment - wasn't the best, and in our opinion not clearly advertised as to where & when activities were taking place. The animation team appeared to lack enthusiasm in getting holiday makers involved - this could be due to the time of year we travelled - maybe the summer period maybe better.

Food - this was a nightmare - our first evening meal we found the chicken raw in one of the dishes - we mentioned this to the head waiter, & the following day there appeared to be some improvement & the food dishes were being regularly monitored with a temperature gage. Sadly the improvement didn't last long - 6 min boiled eggs were raw in the middle - & a curry which started off as chicken

Do not listen to the bad reviews on this hotel..
We returned from Marco Polo on Wednesday after a week away, on arrival we were greeted with a cold drink and told all about the facilities the hotel offered, we booked a family room and we're upgraded to a larger sea/pool view room
The hotel is spotless fresh towels and bedding everyday if you want. 2 bottles of mineral water were delivered to our room everyday.
The food is great hot and good variety, the Asian restaurant is delicious.. The pool is massive although freezing.. The beach is lovely and peaceful and always sunbeds available.
Kids disco was great can't comment on adult entertainment as was on too late for our 1 yr old..
The animation team were fab constantly on the go working hard for What I expect is very little money..
Tracey our Thomson rep was brilliant incredibly helpful with recommending excursions suitable for our baby ( can't recommend friguia park enough) and keeping us up To date on flight times etc..
Overall this was a brilliant holiday and we can't wait to return!!!
