Just returned from two weeks at the Marco Polo Tunisia .We were taken into the entertainment lounge and given a quick run down on what we needed to do and where most things were which I found very helpful. Then our room keys with other info in an envelope were handed out.We were travelling with friends and I asked if we could have rooms close to each other the manager said give me twenty minutes and will see what I can do,within 5minutes we had rooms next to each other. Our cases arrived at the room just as we got there ourselves .The room was big and lovely and cool with a side view of the sea . We went down to the dining room and sorted our time for evening meal then off for a snack and a drink.First impressions of this hotel were how very clean it looked .A big smile from the barman with a hello are you ok . The service in this hotel was second to none from the reception to the restaurant to the cleaning staff especially the ones who cleaned the pool toilets they were spotless whenever we went in. The pool is enormous with water lounges ,jacuzzi and a swim up bar.The beach was a short walk where the usual water sports, the Thompson reps had a clean up beach day while we were there. The evening entertainment was pretty rubbish except for the " river dance " that was quite good but that was it the rest was awful . But don't let one negative put you off this fantastic hotel. Nothing was to much trouble for any of the staff. We found the shop just down the road quite good as they didn't hassle you, do go into the harbour in the evening it's buzzing with all sorts of things going on. We will be going back to this hotel again it was brilliant .

I came here with my wife on our honey moon. It was requested to make our room special etc this never happened it was also my birthday out there nothing special was organised the food was bland same day after day pirate ship waste of money you get hassled alot in the hotel by the men advertising the pirate ship. They do not accept no for an answer and get very nasty when you do say no. Thompson rep Kira waste of air she was completely useless room was nice just no tea or coffee facilities pool was lovely and big just be on Sun bed guard from crack of dawn or you will not get one filthy country stunk of pee men fighting in the street awful as I had my two kids with me both under 5 They were terrified. Will never return to Tunisia now saving for a second honeymoon hoping it's better then the first!

Myself and partner visited this hotel in May this year. We were looking for a week away in the sun to chill and relax. We got 50% of what we wished for, and were able to have a relaxing week but there was not much sun this time of year!
The hotel was spotless, and the staff were constantly cleaning, dusting and painting.
The rooms are basic, but clean and spacious.
The food was good, a diverse salad bar and different themed nights (my favourite the Tunisian cuisine). Something for everyone to eat.
The pool area is large, with a lot of sun beds to choose from. The pool was FREEZING this time of year and I only manage to go in a few times.
There is entertainment and activities which run throughout the day, something for everyone.
The beach is basic, we didn't not spend any time there as every time you go anywhere near, a man on a camel pestered you!
What really made our trip most enjoyable was the staff. 10/10 for being so energetic, hard working and friendly. The entertainment staff are a great laugh, and the bar staff remembered your drinks and had your next round ready as you approached the bar. Fantastic service!
All in all we had a great holiday, and met some lovely people. The only thing that I needed was a bit more sun!!! And the hotel could do with updating it's overall decor...
Would recommend if only to relax in a clean friendly environment.

JUST GOT BACK
Having never visited Tunisia before we took our time trying to select a location and hotel that would keep our 13 almost 14 year old son happy. The location of the Hotel is a short transfer from the airport and in a central part of of the resort with shops and bars in easy walking distance however taxis are cheap some 4 Dinar which is about one pound fifty pence.
The hotel itself is beautiful, the rooms are comfortable and have a feel of luxury the cleanliness is the best I have found over all our holidays.
The management and staff were helpful and were really friendly from the start, you actually get introduced to managers at your welcome meeting this shows there commitment to customer service which was obvious throughout our stay.
Food was good not exceptional, plentiful and well presented again very clean well run but obviously with all inclusive and the variety of nationalities it is hard to excel in this area.
Good entertainment team and beach sports, private beach but most stay around the pool, plenty of chairs although normal towel sun bed syndrome with people getting up at god knows what time to reserve a bed, something i can never understand on holiday ?
Plenty of trips to go on, the coliseum is one not to be missed although if you do it as part of the sights of Tunisia day then you are in for 4-5 hours on a coach. There are other things such as quad biking available at the hotel , you are warned against this by the rep but it is such good fun the three of us loved it.
Talking of reps, we went with Thomson and the only negative thing that I can say about our stay is really against her, her knowledge of the trips was poor, no idea re travel or return times , happy to book you but only I felt to reach her targets set by the company.
Back to the good bits, four bars serving from 10am to 1 in the morning alcohol from 12 which is early for some inclusive, nice pool bar and good lounge bar for the day with the show room and patio bar area bars open late.

All together a lovely holiday that i would recommend, tipping at end of stay to room cleaners and any staff that you want to , max seems 10 dinar which is nothing.

Room Tip: Pay the extra get a sea view

We have stayed in many hotels of this chain Riu. We were not disappointed with this hotel. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating. Waheed the waiter was great along with our breakfast waiter. We loved the dancing around the pool and everyday Leo calling the kids club. The lady cleaner by the pool toilets was always very friendly and had a lovely smile. The reception staff were very efficient. Food was great. The weather was gorgeous and we were all in the pool all day loving the swim up bar. The local area was a bit quiet, it did not feel like there was much outside of the hotel unless you travel further. We stayed 10days but could have easily stayed longer. We would definitely book another Riu we like the reassurance of the quality we can expect.

Having just returned from Tunisia yesterday am feeling really sad that I had to say goodbye to all at The Marco Polo Hotel room 3146 sea view. When we arrived on Aug 17th around 11 am was greeted with a cocktail and taken into Oasis Bar where Salah explained check in and general things about the hotel , as we had met friends there we was given rooms next door to each other, Rooms very nicely decorated and clean, the in room safe was free also fridge stocked with bottled water you just ask at reception if you want more, pool towels free. We had lunch plenty of choice in buffet restaurant staff very friendly and chatty, evening meal has two sittings you chose what time you would like then allocated a table which you keep for the duration of your stay. Excellent choice of food daily also two al a carte restaurants also Asian and Italian. Excellent pool area and swim up bar also two jacuzzi only negative is children were playing ball games around pool bar and jacuzzi area which was quite annoying when you are sitting relaxing ( I got hit in the face twice by a ball also other adults experienced this as well ) the pool is plenty big enough to section off an area for children to play/splash around would be good for the hotel to take this on board. Lovely children's area/pool for the very young. The animation team worked very hard they were brilliant with the children during the day and evenings sadly cannot say the same for evening entertainment for adults it was absolute rubbish but as we were with friends this didn't bother us to much . Cleaning staff in rooms/pool area/toilets were exceptional the standard of cleanliness were very high. Bar staff were excellent very hard working always cheerful and chatty drinks flowed all evening often bringing drinks to us without us having to ask. Restaurant staff also very hard working friendly and chatty our waiter was called Ahmed he was very helpful on our table no 20. We were a bit upset on our last day as we had a late departure we asked from thurs if we could keep our room on we was willing to pay kept getting told to come back next day that was for three days then to be told on departure day that we couldn't keep room on as it was 42 degrees we wanted to still use the pool etc up to 3:30pm although we did then get offered a courtesy room. Just a couple of niggles but overall we had a fantastic holiday would highly recommend this hotel especially families with young children .....I will definitely go back in the future.

Room Tip: Rooms next to the lifts can be noisy

I arrived back from this hotel this morning with my partner (45) and daughter (16). How they can rate this hotel anything over a 3 star is beyond me. Before going we informed the hotel that I have walking difficulties (being an amputee), asking for a room near the reception and facilities. We arrived via taxi transfer (so we were the first there) to be informed our room was at the furthest point of the hotel!!!!. Signs everywhere tell you not to put towels out before 8am or they will be removed. Pure rubbish, people were out at 6am and at no point were towels removed. The room was sufficient, bed was so bad I ended up sleeping on sofa bed with my daughter, there's no lighting on the balcony so after 9pm your struggling to see your drink let alone read. Food was not only awful but cold, I can understand them repeating every few days but it was the same dishes every day. We had to spend ages queuing, then go back for drinks, then collect your own cutlery!. Very few staff were there to help and when you did ask it was an inconvenience. I would rather watch a glass of pop than what they class as entertainment. It was purely shocking and extremely low low budget. The private beach was dirty with no staff and nowhere to get any drinks. The pool was the only good part of the hotel but the grill around the edge was broken in several places which was obviously dangerous. There were empty plastic cups everywhere where there wasn't enough staff on duty to collect them. Most of the umbrellas were broken so we had to struggle to use them. The only daytime entertainment was water aerobics, no sign at all of the free scuba lesson. We stayed in Egypt and Bulgaria 5-6 years ago and their all round package is far superior to this hotel. The most diss appointing holiday I think I've ever been on, total waste of a lot of money.
